New Poll: 61% of Americans Want to See Donald Trump’s Tax Returns

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 9.35.38 AM While Donald Trump often says that Americans are not interested in his tax returns, a new poll is suggesting otherwise. According to a newly released Public Policy Polling analysis, a full 61% of Americans want the president to disclose his tax returns. The same number would also support a law requiring presidential candidates to release at least five years of returns in order to appear on the ballot. Only 32% of those surveyed supported letting Trump keep his returns private. Trump’s tax returns — or lack thereof — rollicked back into the news Tuesday evening after MSNBC host Rachel Maddow disclosed a federal 1040 form form from Trump’s 2005 tax filing. The form revealed that Trump had paid an effective tax rate of 25%, higher than both Mitt Romney and Bernie Sanders but contained little else of substance. The much hyped reveal on Maddow’s show has already come in for significant around the Internet. Trump’s claims that the American people don’t care, also flies in the face of an online petition demanding the tax returns, which has currently been signed over a million times.
