‘Are We Seriously Wagering?’: Brooke Baldwin Reacts to Guest Wanting to Bet on Trump’s Wiretap Claims

In the wake of the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee stating that there is no evidence to support President Donald Trump’s claims that his predecessor had wiretapped Trump Tower’s phones prior to the election, CNN’s Brooke Baldwin gathered a panel to discuss. Towards the end of the conversation, panelists Matt Schlapp and Bill Press got into a bit of a back-and-forth, with Schlapp taking the position that Trump was speaking about surveillance in general while pointing to stories in the mainstream press that purportedly backed up Trump’s assertions. “Yeah, it’s about trust,” Schlapp said, responding to Baldwin’s question about Trump’s words. “I’m a Republican, I’m a conservative. And if there is proof that the Obama Administration — like the New York Times and Washington Post and other people have written — were surveilling people in the Trump campaign and in the Trump world, I that’s a big breach of trust. They better have a damn good reason for doing it.” Press shot back, telling him to “give it up, dude” and asking him to provide evidence to back up his comments. “Bill, I’ll make a fair wager with you,” the conservative advocate exclaimed. “Let’s both look at the evidence. If the Obama Administration did that –.” At that point, Baldwin interjected, asking, “Are we really wagering on the evidence of a previous president wiretapping a current president?” “No, no Brooke,” Schlapp answered. The panel then wrapped up as Press and Schlapp argued over credibility. Watch the clip above, via CNN. [image via screengrab] — Follow Justin Baragona on Twitter: @justinbaragona
