GOP Senator Defends EPA Cuts: They Are ‘Brainwashing Our Kids’

On New Day, Thursday, Oklahoma’s Republican Senator James Inhofe went to bat for his fellow Sooner State colleague Scott Pruitt. The newly installed EPA chief has taken criticism for being a climate skeptic and his multiple lawsuits against the organization he is now leading. Co-host Poppy Harlow, got things off by asking Inhofe if he was ok with Donald Trump’s large proposed cuts to the agency. “This is the agency that, as you know, regulates a lot of thing in this country, including protecting clean water, protecting against things like what happened in Flint, Michigan. Are you comfortable with this cut? Is this a good cut for the American people,” Harlow asked. Inhofe appeared to think so, citing the EPA’s history of “brainwashing.” “We gotta take all this stuff that comes out of the EPA that’s brainwashing our kids, that’s propaganda, things that true, allegations.” But Harlow cut him off. “Let’s talk about that assessment and that assertion of brainwashing because the guy who is now running the EPA, Scott Pruitt, as you know, he’s been called by many a climate change denier.” Inhofe defended Pruitt by citing his own personal relationship with him. “I know this guy, I know him well.
