Bill Maher on Violence at Middlebury: ‘I Worry That Liberalism Is at a Perilous Point’
Bill Maher tonight once again criticized campus liberals after the violence that broke out at Middlebury when Charles Murray spoke on campus. A professor ended up in a neck brace as a result.
Maher said tonight, “I worry that liberalism is at a perilous point.”
He made it clear he’s not defending Murray’s views, but said that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it.
Andrew Sullivan, who recently wrote about this phenomenon on college campuses, went off and said it’s basically a “religion” for young liberals on campuses where the mentality is “you have to believe certain things or you are a heretic.”
Former Congressman Barney Frank condemned the violence at Middlebury and the suppression of free speech, but he did object to the idea that this represents liberalism.
Maher said part of it has to do the parents “and the way they raise their little fucking brats.”
