Fox News’ Special Report Addresses News of O’Reilly Departure

Fox News waited until Special Report tonight to address the big news of Bill O’Reilly‘s departure. Bret Baier and Howard Kurtz recapped the news for viewers, noting the harassment allegations against O’Reilly and O’Reilly’s response to these “unfounded claims,” as he referred to them in a statement. In his reporting, Kurtz brought up O’Reilly’s massive ratings and his confrontational style, but also took note of his “cordial relationship with President Trump.” (Trump, you’ll remember, defended O’Reilly and said he didn’t do anything wrong.) Kurtz recapped the big schedule changes on Fox starting next week: Tucker Carlson at 8, The Five at 9, Martha MacCallum permanently staying at 7, and Eric Bolling getting a show in the 5 pm slot starting May 1st. In the previous hour, The Five addressed their new timeslot and Bolling’s new program, but they did not directly mention the news about O’Reilly’s departure. above, via Fox News.
