Mueller Probe Reportedly Will Investigate Possible White House Cover-Up

Screen Shot 2017-05-19 at 4.42.21 PM A third major story dropped on Friday afternoon, with respect to President Donald Trump and the Russia investigation. According to McClatchy, special counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe on Russian interference in the 2016 election will include looking into a possible White House cover up. McClatchy cited members of Congress as being the source for the report, which was published after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein briefed Congress on Friday. Per McClatchy, the cover up is the third “branch” of an investigation that began as a look into Russian interference, and then began to examine whether the Trump team colluded with the Russians. Now, Mueller will reportedly examine the possibility of a cover-up. This news comes approximately one hour after a Washington Post report in which a current White House official is apparently being classified as a “person of interest” in the Russia investigation. Rosenstein reportedly well received at the Congressional briefing from members of both sides of the aisle as he brought House members up to speed on the probe. “Everybody applauded,” said Emmanuel Cleaver (D-MO), as quoted by McClatchy. “Well, almost everybody. Let’s say 95 percent applauded. Still, two weeks ago, that would not have happened.” [image via screengrab] —— Follow Joe DePaolo (@joe_depaolo) on Twitter
