“He is not under investigation by the special counsel,” Sekulow noted. “The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources that were purportedly leaking information to the Washington Post about a potential investigation of the president. As we know today, the president is not under investigation.” After Todd pressed Sekulow to explain the president’s tweet then, asking him if this was just a mistweet, the attorney merely stated that it was just in response to WaPo and them using anonymous sources. He again claimed Trump is not under investigation. “So why is he confused,” Todd asked. “Why is he not taking your legal advice saying you’re not under investigation? Why tweet this?” “I think you’re reading more into the tweet than what is there,” Sekulow noted, adding that Trump has been very effective at utilizing social media. And, once again, reiterated that Trump is not under investigation. The MTP host highlighted that Trump seemed to be referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in his tweet regarding the investigation, leading into a back-and-forth between the two over whether Trump fired FBI Director James Comey due to the Russia investigation or Rosenstein’s recommendation. During an appearance on NBC’s Neet the Press this morning, a member of President Donald Trump’s legal team insisted numerous times that the president is not under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, contradicting reports and Trump’s own statement. Host Chuck Todd began the interview right away by asking Jay Sekulow for clarification on the president’s tweet last week that seemed to confirm the Washington Post’s reporting that Mueller was investing Trump for obstruction of justice.
