Fox News Wins Trump’s Fake News Trophy, According to Poll

A new poll has determined the winner of President Donald Trump’s Fake News Trophy. Last month, Trump inexplicably called for a contest to determine which cable news outlet is the most dishonest in its coverage of him, declaring that the winner would be awarded the “FAKE NEWS TROPHY!” Though Trump excluded Fox News from his proposed contest (I wonder why), a new Rasmussen poll included the network when asking likely U.S. voters: who should win the big Fake News trophy. The conservative-leaning pollster found that 40% of respondents thought Fox News should be awarded the Fake News Trophy, with CNN, a regular target of Trump, in second place at 25%. MSNBC followed with 9%. Of course, I am unfortunately required to remind everyone that no network deserves a “FAKE NEWS TROPHY.” The hard news divisions at Fox News, CNN and MSNBC all do very valuable work, and broadly disparage any of those networks’ reporting as “FAKE NEWS” is imbecilic and irresponsible. (Though there is a small amount of poetic justice in Trump’s favorite network taking home his ridiculous trophy.) On a brighter note, the Rasmussen poll found that Americans are taking the problem of (actual) fake news seriously: 65% consider fake news a big problem, with 42% saying it’s a very big one.
