Remember When Mike Flynn Led ‘Lock Her Up’ Chants About Hillary Clinton?

Of course you do. It was the height of the 2016 election, and Donald Trump was barreling towards the White House. He had just defeated 16 bumbling Republican opponents, and was set to take on Democrat titan Hillary Clinton, who found herself embroiled in an email controversy. “Lock her up!” was frequently chanted at Trump’s raucous rallies, as a rallying cry against Clinton’s supposed corruption and sure imprisonment. And during a speech at the Republican National Convention in July 2016, headliner Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (then a Trump campaign adviser) issued a fiery condemnation of Clinton. He led the crowd in chants of “Lock her up!” while shouting “Damn right! Exactly right! There is nothing wrong with that!” “If I did a tenth of what she did, I’d be in jail today!” Flynn bellowed, demanding Clinton withdraw from the race. Well, on Friday, nearly a into President Trump’s term, Flynn has plead guilty to lying to the FBI over his contacts with Russia. That comes after he was fired from his role as Trump’s National Security Adviser just weeks into the new presidency. Lying to the FBI is a felony, and Flynn faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. [image via screengrab] — Follow Aidan McLaughlin (@aidnmclaughlin) on Twitter
