Source Close to President Reportedly Brushes Off Flynn Plea Deal: ‘Everyone Lies in Washington’

Another shoe dropped today in the special counsel’s Russia probe when former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn agreed to plead guilty to charges that he willfully and knowingly lied to FBI agents about his contacts with Russian officials. The charges cover the period of time that he actually served in the White House. In the immediate aftermath of the news, we were all waiting to hear from the Trump administration and what the official reaction would be to the bombshell news. As those close to the president gathered their thoughts, one reached out to CNN’s Gloria Borger. And that person’s response was, well, something. “One source close to the president attempted to mitigate the severity of the charge against Flynn by pointing out that everyone lies in Washington,” anchor John Berman stated, reading from Borger’s report. “The source will not comment on the record — seemed to be trying to out the implications of the charge along with everyone else.” Berman continued, “Although the source maintained he was not worried about any potential cooperation between Flynn and the prosecutors, if that were to be the case.” Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin reacted by noting that Borger’s source may want to work on a “better spin than ‘everyone lies'” while adding that isn’t going to be a “persuasive argument.” Watch the clip above, via CNN.
