Fox Covers News Trump Ordered Flynn to Contact Russians…in Context of Plummeting Dow

Following the blockbuster news of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea for lying to the FBI regarding contacts with Russian officials, ABC News reported that the plea was part of a deal in which Flynn will testify that Donald Trump directed him to reach out to the Russians. Following ABC News’ bombshell, Fox News relayed the reporting while noting that stocks were plummeting in reaction to the breaking news. “Okay, I want to give you a look at the Dow Jones industrial average right now because we have seen a significant move downward there,” host Melissa Francis said. “You can see we are down about 227 points. I wanted to tell you why.” She continued, “There is a report that is circulating right now, it is coming from ABC News. He is reporting that Michael Flynn, as part of this plea, is prepared to report that candidate ordered him to reach out to the Russians before the election. This is different than what the president has said in the past. And it is also a big no-no, to say the least.” Francis went on to note that Fox News hadn’t confirmed the ABC News report yet, pointing out that the Dow Jones was “trading lower on these unverified reports.” She added that the network’s sources were checking on the reports at that moment and Fox News would stay on top of it. Following his guilty plea, Flynn released a statement announcing that he would cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and that he acknowledged his actions were wrong.
