The button, which seems like something out of a cartoon or James Bond movie, can be seen at the 1:33 mark. Blink and you’ll miss it, however. Lauer narrated the segment, saying it was “hard to believe I let Daniels and Carrey alone in my office for even a second,” a quote that carries more significance in light of the recent allegations levied against the former NBC anchor. Do you think he was sweating as the bumbling duo inched closer and closer to the source of his alleged villainy, at one point even checking his computer to see what he had been Googling? Eh, probably not, as we’ve learned in the past few days Lauer isn’t easily shamed. As a final note, Dumb and Dumber To isn’t that good. HOT TAKE. Come at me. Want to see the secret on Matt Lauer's desk? I found it in a photo from an old @TODAYshow segment with @JimCarrey and @Jeff_Daniels: https://t.co/g6dWn35IT1 #MattLauer #MeeToo pic.twitter.com/rnOu1wvyM1— Patrick Crowley (@mokolabs) November 30, 2017
Of all the people in all the world, who would have thought that actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, conducting a press tour for Dumb and Dumber To, would have been the ones to reveal Matt Lauer’s disturbing desktop button to the world? The button, to the uninitiated, is said have allowed Lauer to trap unsuspecting women in his office, thus giving him ample opportunity to ply his nefarious trade. Carrey and Daniels stumbled upon it by accident — but did not address the intended use. The pair was on TODAY three years ago and did a bit where they invaded Lauer’s office and, as you can see above, the infamous button seems to have been on full display. At the time, however, nobody thought to question what it actually did. It just laid there, like a creepy tiger waiting to pounce.
