Tom Hanks: ‘Concerns Me’ How Much Trump Attacks the Press

Tom Hanks, star of an upcoming film about a battle between the press and the White House, weighed in on the current administration’s view of the press. The Post star spoke to David Axelrod for The Axe Files, and in a preview clip from CNN, the Hollywood A-lister talked about how President Trump is going after outlets like CNN and The Washington Post. He told Axelrod, “As an American, it concerns me, because it’s monkeying around with our Constitution.” Hanks doesn’t think the Trump administration is trying to silence press outlets, but instead doing something “more insidious” by denigrating and insulting the press, diluting the atmosphere and helping out “agenda-filled other institutions” by “throwing dirt and oil into a bucket of water so it all becomes undrinkable.” Over the past few years, Hanks has sent espresso machines to the White House press corps to show support for the work they do.
