Comey Responds to Trump Saying the FBI is in ‘Tatters’: The Agency is ‘Strong, Honest, Independent’

In what appeared to be a response to President Donald Trump tweeting that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is in “tatters,” James Comey — the former director of America’s leading law enforcement agency — said that the FBI is actually “honest,” “strong,” and “independent.” “I want the American people to know this truth: The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is, and always will be, independent,” said Comey in separate posts on both his Instagram and Twitter accounts. The president tweeted earlier regarding the news that special counsel Robert Mueller removed a top FBI counterintelligence expert from his probing team after it was discovered that he had been sending pro-Clinton and anti-Trump text messages. The rivalry between the president and Comey has gone back months, as Trump went after the then-FBI director for not recommending an indictment against ex-Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton after the probe into her use of a private email server. Additionally, Trump has gone against Comey for his in-part responsible for the Mueller’s probe into Russian election interference, as well as his statements in front of the Intelligence Committee on this summer. Comey wasn’t the only former federal official to go after Trump over the anti-FBI comments, as ex-attorney general Eric Holder also unleashed on the president in a tweet of his own — saying that, while the bureau is trustworthy, “1600 Penn Ave” is not right now.
