WATCH LIVE: Trump Speaks at Utah State Capitol Following Weekend Tweetstorm About Flynn

President Donald Trump will be in Salt Lake City, Utah today, speaking at the state’s capitol. What will he discuss? The remarks have been advertised as a way for Trump to formally announce his administration’s massive reduction of two giant swaths of Government-protected land, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the Bears Ears National Monument. Sure, yeah, he’ll bring that up. Bear Ears was created by Barack Obama, after all, and Grand Staircase-Escalante was designated by Bill Clinton, two ex-presidents Trump has no love for. All told, the state could stand to lose over a million acres of protected land today, riling up environmentalists and the state’s Native American population, many of whom have cultural ties to the territories. This, however, is Donald Trump. He is likely to go off-script, perhaps doubling down on his notion that the FBI is in “tatters.” The “Fake News” media is likely to get a few jabs, because they reported on Michael Flynn’s recent guilty plea in the ongoing Robert Muller Russia probe. The president will also likely conduct something of a victory lap after Republican Senators passed their tax reform bill, with a vote taking place at 2 a.m. Saturday morning. The move to shrink these national monuments has been in the works for some time, having long been a pet project of Sen. Orrin Hatch. Protestors, numbering in the thousands, flooded the state Capitol lawn on Saturday. To be fair, many Utah residents celebrate the move, on the grounds that states should designate protected land, and not the federal government. The town of Monticello held a counter-protest on Saturday, drawing hundreds of Trump supporters and proponents of allowing the acreage to revert back to private ownership. Trump will speak at 2:40 p.m. EST. Watch above, via the White House. [image via screenshot]Follow Lawrence Bonk (@sidescrollers) on Twitter
