Eighth Woman Accuses Al Franken of Sexual Misconduct: ‘He Knew Exactly What He Was Doing’

In a lengthy op-ed for The Atlantic, liberal columnist and former Democratic congressional staffer Tina Dupuy accused Senator Al Franken of sexual misconduct––alleging the Minnesota lawmaker groped her in 2009. As with other Franken accusers, the incident was alleged to have happened during a photo op at a Washington, D.C. party in January of 2009, weeks after the senator won his first election. Dupuy detailed the incident in the following graf:
“D.C. was decked out and packed in for the inauguration of a young and popular new president. The town was buzzing with optimism, and one of the many events on our list was a swanky Media Matters party with Democratic notables everywhere. Then I saw Al Franken. I only bug celebrities for pictures when it’ll make my foster mom happy. She loves Franken, so I asked to get a picture with him. We posed for the shot. He put his hand on my waist, grabbing a handful of flesh. I froze. Then he squeezed. At least twice.”

Dupuy went on to say that Franken’s actions diminished her “as a professional woman.” “Al Franken’s familiarity was inappropriate and unwanted. It was also quick; he knew exactly what he was doing,” she wrote. Dupuy is the second woman to accuse Franken of non-consensual touching just today, as a former Democratic congressional aide told Politico he had forcibly kissed at one of his radio shows. After that report, numerous Democratic senators stepped-up and called for his resignation. He responded to these calls by saying he will address these many accusations in an announcement tomorrow.
