Bannon Ally Defeated by Paul Ryan Loses it on John Podhoretz: ‘Eat A Bullet’

Alt-right internet personality Paul Nehlen — best known for losing an election to Paul Ryan and being a Steve Bannon lackey — issued a lighthearted death threat to a media critic today, telling New York Post columnist John Podhoretz to “eat a bullet.” While this is certainly not the first time Nehlen has posted inflammatory tweets, his incendiary threat to the writer managed to garner national media attention. The hardline President Donald Trump supporter was triggered to issue the threat after Podhoretz accused him of having a “pea” sized head. “Maybe you should eat something. Your brain needs nourishment. It’s the size of a pea,” tweeted the conservative columnist. Nehlen then responded by posting, “Do us all a favor, Podhoretz. Eat a bullet.” The failed congressional candidate then attempted to the threat as a joke by tweeting a photo of “Boston Bullet” dessert snacks. Presumably, his attempts to tone down the threat were intended to comply with Twitter’s new, stricter guidelines that have led to banning and de-verification of similar alt-right accounts. Though Nehlen was blown out by Ryan in the 2016 GOP primary in Wisconsin’s 1st District, he has managed to build up his social media clout by pandering to the most extreme elements of Trump and Bannon’s base. He often retweets and interacts with white supremacists, suggests Muslims are “towelheads,” and uses racial stereotypes against black people and Arabs. Nehlen also recently joined in with the white supremacist 4Chan meme, “It’s okay to be white” — tweeting the phrase earlier this week to the delight of his followers. Aside from his death threat to the Post columnist, his other violent comments include joking about the shooting of former Democratic congresswoman Gabby Giffords and calling for North Korea to nuke the state of California, as he considers it a modern “Sodom and Gomorrah.” [image via screengrab] Follow the author on Twitter (@calebecarma).
