It encourages Scavino to get candidate Trump to create a page on the Russian social networking site VK, telling him that “Don and Paul” were on board with the idea — a reference to then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump Jr.This email even suggests that Trump joining the social network may have actually been brought up during the Trump Tower meeting, a fact that would operate in stark contrast to earlier statements made by the Trump campaign, particularly Trump Jr., who is alleged to have taken the meeting in order to dig up dirt on Hillary Clinton. CNN has noted that one of the emails goes on to mention the DNC hack, which was a major nuisance to the Clinton campaign. Written just five days after the Trump Tower meeting, Goldstone told the recipients that it was “eerily weird” that the DNC hack occurred so soon after they all had met. Jake Tapper called the whole thing “fishy,” with contributor Kevin Madden adding that “fishy is one word” to describe it, adding that investigators would likely label it as “inconsistent.” “The net seems to get wider and wider and bring more and more people involved in it,” he said. Contributor Jen Psaki added, “From the very beginning it was never believable that this meeting was about Russian adoptions.” CNN noted that the White House and Goldstone have both declined to comment on the story. One source says Goldstone pitched the idea to Scavino as a way to connect with the many Russian-Americans who use the site.
A new CNN report Thursday details freshly discovered emails which were sent after that infamous Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and various Russians. The discovery of these follow-up emails casts new doubt on the Trump campaign’s insistence that the meeting was a one-off. The recipient of these previously undisclosed emails has not been named, with CNN only referring to them as a member of President Donald Trump’s inner circle. British publicist Rob Goldstone, who also participated in the June 2016 meeting, has been noted to have been an intermediary in these follow-up messages. Goldstone has been asked to participate in a pair of closed-door meetings with the House and Senate intelligence panels, which could occur as early as next week and should give us more information regarding the content of these emails. Buried in CNN’s story, however, is this little nugget, describing an email from Goldstone to Trump aide Dan Scavino, who now works as director of social media for the White House.
