GOP Rep. Calls For ‘Purge’ of ‘Deep State’ Operatives Within the FBI

Representative Francis Rooney (R-FL) raised a few eyebrows today when he said there needs to be a “purge” at the FBI in order to remove the “deep state” bureaucrats working to undermine President Donald Trump. Rooney gave an interview to MSNBC where he spoke of government agencies that “don’t respect the Constitution” and are not living up to their standards. Hallie Jackson pressed Rooney on his “broad brush” remarks, and she asked if he was trying to discredit the Justice Department in light of the recent controversies revolving around the special investigations on Russia. Rooney’s response: “I don’t want to discredit them. I would like to see the directors of those agencies purge it and say, ‘look, we’ve a lot of great agents, a lot of great lawyers here,’ those are the people that I want the American people to see and know the good works being done, not these people who are kind of the deep state.” Jackson followed up on Rooney’s use of term “purge,” though he defended himself by citing Peter Strzok, the FBI agent Robert Mueller pulled away from the Russia special investigation due to his pro-Clinton, anti-Trump sentiments.
