GOP Rep. Stands by Comments Calling for FBI ‘Purge’: ‘I’m Pretty Frustrated’

The Republican congressman who declared yesterday there needs to be a “purge” at the FBI stood by his position on CNN today. Brianna Keilar directly asked Rep. Francis Rooney, “Are you sure you want to be throwing a word like ‘purge’ around?” Rooney responded, “Well, it might be a pretty strong word. I’m not maybe the most nuanced political person in the world, coming from a career in business, but I’m pretty frustrated.” He cited those anti-Trump texts from FBI agents, but Keilar pointed out what happened to them and asked him where the evidence is that there’s bias in this investigation. Rooney pointed to the “lack of impartiality” and sentiments that go beyond mere political disagreement. Keilar again pressed him on specific evidence and said the word “purge” is “more closely associated with authoritarian governments than democratic ones.” He said it’s certainly worth getting rid “bad apples,” noting how Peter Strzok is still at the FBI.
