Jeffrey Toobin Blasts Trump in Scathing Rant: ‘This is What Happens In Authoritarian Countries!’

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin appeared with Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday to give his take on Donald Trump’s recent controversial tweets where he said the Department of Justice was part of the “deep state”: CNN’s chief legal analyst didn’t hold back when he tore into the president’s comments:
“I hope I don’t sound like the boy who cried wolf, because this is so far outside the principles and the norm of presidential behavior that we are in an outer space realm here. This is what happens in authoritarian countries. The leader uses the criminal justice system to punish his political enemies. is precisely what is being called for here. It hasn’t happened yet, Huma Abedin hasn’t been prosecuted, Jim Comey hasn’t been prosecuted. As far as I’m aware there’s nothing they could be prosecuted for.”
Toobin then gave viewers a history lesson, referencing the infamously disturbing Alien and Sedition Act of 1798. “The very idea that the president of the United States is calling on his Justice Department to prosecute his political enemies is something that is unprecedented since the Alien and Sedition acts when John Adams was president,” Toobin said. He concluded, “It’s just madness. This is not how presidents have ever behaved in all of American history.” Watch above via CNN. [image via screengrab]
