Remember When Steve Bannon Said There Was ‘Nothing’ to Russia Investigation?

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has ruled the news cycle today, thanks to excerpts being released of a forthcoming tell-all on President Donald Trump’s transition and first year in office. These excerpts have Bannon eviscerating Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner for taking that now-infamous June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, calling the move “treasonous,” “unpatriotic” and, of course, “bad shit.” The Breitbart boss also spoke candidly of the Russia investigation, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and how it will eventually ensnare members of Trump’s inner circle, who remain oblivious of their forthcoming doom. “They’re sitting on a beach trying to stop a Category Five,” he said. Bannon, however, sang a different tune about the Russia investigation back in September, when disgraced journalist Charlie Rose sat down with him for a lengthy interview on 60 Minutes, his first being ousted from the White House. “There’s nothing to the Russia investigation,” he said, appearing to become visibly agitated by the question. “It’s a waste of time.” “Look. I was there. It’s a total and complete farce. Russian collusion is a farce.” Rose pressed, asking Bannon if he thought the Russians tried to influence the election. “Maybe something they did at the DNC,” he responded half-heartedly. “It’s far from conclusive that the Russians had any impact on this election.” Yet according to Wolff’s book, Bannon said the following of the meeting between Trump’s campaign and Russians: “The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor – with no lawyers. They didn’t have any lawyers. “Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.” [image via screenshot]Follow Lawrence Bonk (@sidescrollers) on Twitter
