Trump and Dem Rep Bicker During Immigration Meeting: ‘Comprehensive Means Comprehensive’

In an effort to give the public a glimpse into Hill dealmaking, President Donald Trump decided to allow the press pool to attend today’s extended meeting between Congressional Republicans and Democrats on immigration. All in all, it appeared to be a way to present the president as an engaged negotiator who understands the ins and outs of legislation. A pivot, if you will. At one point during the bipartisan discussion, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer mixed it up with the president over the need to provide protection for immigrants covered by DACA. And it got semi-heated. “We need to take care of the DACA kids and we all agree about that,” Hoyer declared. “With all due respect, there are some things you are proposing that are going to be very controversial, that will be an impediment to agreement.” “You’re going to sit down and say ‘Listen, we can’t agree we’ll give you half of that.’ We’re gonna negotiate those,” the president replied. This caused Hoyer to exclaim “comprehensive means comprehensive,” resulting in Trump countering that they weren’t “talking about comprehensive” but now they are. “You’re not that far away,” POTUS added. Hoyer went on state that there is a “deadline looming” and that a number of the factors that Trump mentioned are “going to be controversial.” Meanwhile, the president responded that maybe they’ll agree and maybe they won’t. “It’s possible we are not going to agree, Trump said. “There should be no reason for us not to get this done.” Watch the clip above, via Fox News.
