John Kelly Banning Personal Cell Phones in New West Wing Crackdown

A ban on staffers using personal cellphones in the West Wing will be going into effect, according to an internal memo sent by chief of staff John Kelly. The new policy reveals that “all portable electronic devices” that are not issued or authorized by the White House cannot “[be] carried into or otherwise possessed” in the West Wing from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, regardless of whether they are turned off. The memo, as reported by ABC News, request that staffers leave their phones in their vehicles, in their lockers near the West Wing lobby, or at home. The procedures set in place to discipline those who don’t follow these guidelines have been leaked and includes “being indefinitely prohibited from entering the White house complex:”
Violations of this policy by EOP staff are security incidents that may indicate knowing willful, or negligent conduct in violation security policy and may therefore result in disciplinary action and, for other Federal employees and visitors, may include being indefinitely prohibited from entering the White house complex.

The rules that will be implemented are expected to apply to everyone, including top officials, except Donald Trump. [image via screengrab]
