Sarah Sanders Roasts CNN’s Jim Acosta: ‘Your Numbers Would Be Higher’ If Trump Watched

During this afternoon’s White House press briefing, CNN’s Jim Acosta and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tangled a bit over President Donald Trump using his morning “Executive Time” to watch Fox & Friends, with Sanders taking the opportunity to ding CNN’s ratings. Acosta noted that Trump began the day by tweeting a quote from a Fox News segment that conflicted with the administration’s view on FISA warrants, which necessitated the president sending out a subsequent tweet clarifying his actual position. Sanders used this opening to roast CNN. “I’m sure you are disappointed he’s not watching CNN,” the press secretary snarked. “I think he watches a lot of CNN if you don’t mind me saying it,” Acosta shot back. “I don’t think that’s true,” Sanders stated. “Your numbers would be higher.” This led to a bunch of “ooohs” and groans from reporters in the room. Sanders would answer Acosta’s question, Sanders said the president has a “great deal of understanding” when it comes to FISA and that’s why he issued a presidential memo on it. Just as an aside, today represented the one-year anniversary of Trump labeling Acosta “Fake News.” Watch the clip above, via CNN.
