Jason Chaffetz Shills Again For Pal Romney: He Didn’t Even Ask For Trump’s Endorsement

President Donald Trump, seemingly out of nowhere, endorsed Mitt Romney last night in his bid to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch in Utah. The endorsement came via tweet. No surprise there. What surprised many, however, was Romney’s quick acceptance of the endorsement, despite having once said he would never do such a thing, in light of the president’s tendency to disparage other races. Well, former Utah representative and number one Romney mega-fan Jason Chaffetz appeared on Fox Business Network this morning to say that, though he accepted the endorsement, Romney never asked for it in the first place. “I don’t think Mitt Romney asked for the president’s endorsement,” he said. “I really do believe, having talked to some people in the Romney campaign, that this just came out of the blue.” Chaffetz also indicated that Trump and Romney’s new-found bromance would likely not last long. “It’s a nice little group for a moment,” he said. “The governor was very magnanimous about it, but I don’t know if that’s going to last too long.” In the past, Trump has called Romney a “loser,” a “total joke” and said he “choked like a dog” in the 2012 election, despite no record of a dog ever choking under the pressure of a political election.
