Michael Cohen fired back at Michael Avenatti Wednesday night, after Stormy Daniels’ lawyer dropped documents detailing a number of alleged payments to Cohen, including one six figure sum from a firm linked to a Russian oligarch. Shortly after Avenatti released the document, a number of news outlets confirmed some of the payments, which were in the millions and made to one of Cohen’s shell companies. Early on Wednesday, Cohen told reporters that Avenatti’s document was “inaccurate.” MSNBC’s Ari Melber reported on his show Wednesday night Cohen’s first extensive response to Avenatti. The statement from Cohen’s said that Avenatti “published numerous incorrect statements regarding Mr. Cohen,” and claimed he “misidentified at least one wire transfer to a different Michael Cohen, a Canadian citizen.” Cohen’s lawyers continued that some of the information published by Avenatti “appears to be from Mr. Cohen’s actual bank records.” “And Mr. Cohen has no reason to believe Mr. Avenatti is in lawful possession of these records,” the letter added.
