On Tuesday night, Gayle King weighed in on the controversy that has plagued the White House regarding a leaked joke at the expense of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Last week, White House aide Kelly Sadler had dismissed McCain’s dissent of Gina Haspel, President Trump‘s nominee to become the next CIA Director, by saying his vote doesn’t matter since he’s “dying anyway.” Neither Sadler nor the White House have yet to apologize for the remark. Appearing on The Daily Show, the CBS This Morning host briefly shared her thoughts after Trevor Noah blasted the White House for it earlier in the show. “Don’t you think, Trevor, that if they finally come out and apologize now, will it still mean something when I have to beat you up to give me an apology?” King asked. “Does that really- does that feel good to you if I have to you to apologize for something?” Noah responded by saying many people want the White House to apologize in order to restore “the pretense of normalcy.” “But in the past, it seems like when you’re asked to apologize at this particular White House, they double down to the opposite,” King continued. “So I don’t know if you get the apology if it’s going to mean anything. I don’t think the apology is coming, by the way. I just don’t.” The Daily Show host insisted that this White House has never apologized, adding that the only apology to come from President Trump was when the Access Hollywood tape surfaced during the election.
