Hannity Responds to Fallout Over ‘Obviously Sarcastic’ Phone-Smashing Advice: ‘Are You Really THAT Dumb?’

On Wednesday night, Sean Hannity started off his show by making a “joke” about how the Russian probe would have a different outcome if they borrowed a play from Hillary Clinton‘s phone-smashing playbook. Here is what he said:
“Maybe Mueller’s witnesses, I don’t know, if I advised them to follow Hillary Clinton’s lead: “Delete all your emails, and then acid wash the emails and hard drives on your phones, then take your phones and bash them with a hammer into little itsy bitsy pieces, use BleachBit, remove the sim cards.” “And then take the pieces and hand it over to Robert Mueller and say, ‘Hillary Rodham Clinton, this is equal justice under the law.’

It did not go over well. A number of outlets pounced on his remarks, accusing the Trump supporting Fox News host of, in Esquire’s Jack Holmes‘ words, trying “to smuggle bullshit into the discourse” in the name of a cheap joke. Referring to the controversy on Thursday, Hannity, not surprisingly used the fallout as an excuse to claim he was the victim of a fake news smear. Then, after lengthy evisceration of the journalists who called him out, Hannity ended by saying he wanted to get something straight about what he really meant. “Now, the mainstream media would put me under investigation and lock me up for merely highlighting in an obviously sarcastic way the double standard and what I have been pointing out our two-tier justice system,” he began, before noting they missed the point. “These same people don’t get the fact that Hillary actually did all of that. She wiped away, acid washed her hard drive, deleted 33,000 emails that were subpoenaed, had an aide smashing phones with a hammer and lied about all of it,” he continued on. “Are you really that dumb? Please Tell me it’s not true.” He then concluded: “Just to be clear, If Robert Mueller asks for your phone, don’t do what Hillary did. As I said last night, it’s not going to end well for you. You won’t get the same treatment, which was a point of it. Now the media, when you think they have hit a new low, they just dig and dig and dig.” Watch above, via Fox News. [image via screengrab]
