In Orlando, Florida, a day-long hostage situation ended in tragedy late last night, leaving four children and the hostage-taker dead, and one police officer in critical condition. At around 9pm Monday, after a 20 hour standoff that began Sunday night with a domestic disturbance call, police entered the apartment and discovered that all four children were found dead of gunshot wounds. They were aged one, six, ten, and eleven years old The incident began when police responded to the domestic disturbance call. They knocked on the door, and that’s when the hostage-taker, Gary Lindsey Jr., opened the door and opened fire. Lindsey shot Officer Kevin Valencia, who was severely wounded. Tuesday morning, he remains in critical condition after emergency surgery. He is expected to survive. According to Fox 35 in Orlando, Lindsey was found dead in a closet of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
