On The View today, co-host Whoopi Goldberg took exception to a tweet sent by CNN’s Jake Tapper over the weekend, in which he reacted to Barack and Michelle Obama dancing at a recent concert. The Huffington Post on Sunday wrote about the Obamas dancing at the Beyoncé––Jay-Z concert, and tweeted the article. Tapper then retweeted that article, stating that the Democratic party is the “weakest it has been since the 1920s,” obviously in a critical way.
Godlberg brought that up on the View today to say that Tapper is too stressed out if he’s being critical of the Obamas going to a concert. He might have a point, she said, if it had been a private concert, but “everybody is partying, and why is it Obama?” “Jake, I’m taking you to a concert because you are stressed, honey,” said Whoopi. She also added about Jake that “I love him.” Co-host Meghan McCain, however, explained what Tapper was more likely getting at: the coverage of the concert and the dancing rather than the more serious business facing the country. “I interpreted that tweet of his differently, I interpreted it as like the media coverage of it,” said McCain. “Everyone was like, we miss you. We whatever, whatever. And there’s the Democratic party and the people within the Democratic party really do need to be looking forward for who the leader — the Obamas are always going to be incredibly important and influential in the Democratic party, yes. But Democrats are looking for who is going lead the party in 2020.” But they did all go on to agree that you can’t work all the time and never have fun or else you “become Ted Cruz.” Watch the clip above, courtesy of ABC.
