MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearings with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual misconduct allegations “were a disaster for the Democratic Party,” as he believes it united moderate Republicans and President Donald Trump. “Things could tighten up [before the midterm election], I suspect they will tighten up and we’ll have another churn over the next one, two, three weeks,” Scarborough said on today’s airing of Morning Joe. “But, boy, looking back, assessing what went on during the Kavanaugh hearings, there is no doubt — as somebody that studies branding — there is no doubt that at least for Senate candidates, that the Kavanaugh hearings were a disaster the for the Democratic Party.” MSNBC contributor Rick Tyler shared the same opinion as Scarborough regarding the negative impact of the Kavanaugh hearings for Democrats. “The Kavanaugh hearings had a dramatically positive effect for Republicans,” Tyler said. “One, it energized the Trump base, but i also energized a lot of Republicans who weren’t necessarily Trump supporters who might be looking for an alternative governing party, and what they saw on the Senate Judiciary Committee with the abandonment of the presumption of innocence, on the Judiciary Committee, which I think is always disqualifying, those Republicans said no, this is not what we’re seeking.” Watch above, via MSNBC.
