Michelle Obama revealed she suffered a miscarriage 20 years ago, and that both of her daughters with Barack were conceived through in vitro fertilization. Obama opened up about her troubles with pregnancy in an interview on Good Morning America Friday, where the former first lady was on to speak about her upcoming memoir, Becoming. “I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed,” Obama told ABC anchor Robin Roberts. “Because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.” “That’s one of the reasons why I think it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen,” she added. Obama said she realized “the biological clock is real” and “egg production is limited,” when she was in her mid-30s, and underwent IVF to conceive her daughters. Obama’s memoir, to released next Tuesday, is reportedly a candid account of her life in and out of the White House. The Washington Post has the first review here. Watch above, via ABC News.
