Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) intends to withdraw the National Guard troops his state deployed to the southern border following President Donald Trump‘s declaration of a “crisis” at the U.S.-Mexico line. Multiple media outlets have picked up on a series of remarks Newsom will deliver in his State of the State address on Monday afternoon. Evidently, the governor will condemn the “political theater” over Trump’s border wall, and he will also pull California’s 360 troopers back from the border so they can focus on “real threats” like managing wildfires throughout the state. “The border ’emergency’ is a manufactured crisis and California will not be part of this political theater,” Newsom is expected to say. “This is our answer to the White House: No more division, xenophobia or nativism.” The move comes shortly after New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) ordered her state to withdraw state National troops from the border as well. Two weeks ago, Trump announced on Twitter that he was sending new troops to the border to stop the “attempted invasion of illegals” that are supposedly about to pour into the country. The president is still pushing for federal funding to build his border wall, and the government could go into shutdown again in a matter of days if he and Congress cannot reach a deal for a new spending bill.
