Founder Of Women’s Empowerment Conference Tweets Condolences For Ailes

Journalist and founder of the Women in the World summit Tina Brown has angered many for her condolence tweet in the wake of former Fox News president Roger Ailes’s death

“Awful harassment revelations not only way to remember him,” Brown, whose 2017 Women in the World conference featured a panel on sexual harassment with Gretchen Carlson, tweeted on Thursday.
Carlson came forward last summer about Ailes’s patterns of sexual harassment and regular abuses of power, and spurred his eventual departure from the network.
At least 20 women have alleged that Ailes harassed them, and accounts of that harassment are beyond upsetting ― Gabriel Sherman’s September 2016 account of Ailes’s behavior in New York Magazine, in which Sherman calls Ailes “the most Continue reading "Founder Of Women’s Empowerment Conference Tweets Condolences For Ailes"

Millennial Women Want Ivanka Trump To Stop Trying To Make Ivanka Trump Happen

Apparently young American women aren’t too thrilled with First Daughter (and assistant to the president) Ivanka Trump.
A recent Cosmopolitan and SurveyMonkey poll of more than 5,000 American adults over the age of 18 found that overall 39 percent of women had a favorable view of Ivanka Trump. But those numbers changed when Cosmo considered the age of the women participating.
Just 21 percent of women between the ages of 18 and 34 reported having a favorable opinion of Trump. But as women’s ages increased, so did their feelings of positivity towards the First Daughter.

In a recent interview with Gayle King, Trump said that she will be “advocating for the economic empowerment of women” in her White House role  ― but in a way that “most people will not actually know about.”
Notably, while Trump has attempted to position herself as a champion for women’s Continue reading "Millennial Women Want Ivanka Trump To Stop Trying To Make Ivanka Trump Happen"

DVF Calls Tucker Carlson A ‘White Man With A Small Penis’

NEW YORK ― On the last day of Tina Brown’s Women in the World Summit, fashion designer and activist Diane von Furstenberg did not hold back when giving her opinion about Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson.
During the event’s “Designing Disruption” panel, which also featured “Black-ish” actress Tracee Ellis Ross and Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth, Von Furstenberg responded to the February news clip that featured Teen Vogue writer Lauren Duca defending her piece, “Donald Trump is Gaslighting America,” to Carlson.
As Duca defended writing a political op-ed for a magazine with a teenage girl audience, Carlson snapped at the time: “You should stick to thigh-high boots. You’re better at that.”
Von Furstenberg’s response?
“It’s only the vengeance of the white man with a small penis.”

Carlson’s tone-deaf comments to Duca must have struck a nerve for von Furstenberg, a certified badass Continue reading "DVF Calls Tucker Carlson A ‘White Man With A Small Penis’"

Powerful Ad Uses Trump’s Own Words To Show How Essential Planned Parenthood Is

“Millions and millions of women ― cervical cancer, breast cancer ― are helped with Planned Parenthood.”
These words were spoken by none other than President Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign, specifically during the February 2016 primary debate
The footage is used in a commercial produced by Cancer Survivors Network for Planned Parenthood to show that Trump has expressed pro-Planned Parenthood views before, and to remind him to “Stand With Survivors.” The timely ad was released last week, on the heels of the GOP’s proposed health care plan, which would defund Planned Parenthood and leave 24 millions Americans without health care coverage.
The commercial features a breast cancer survivor, Jaime, who talks about her experience with Planned Parenthood and how the health care organization saved her life.
“One day, I found a lump on my right breast,” she says. “So I called Planned Parenthood, and Continue reading "Powerful Ad Uses Trump’s Own Words To Show How Essential Planned Parenthood Is"

Emily Ratajkowski: Slut-Shaming Melania Trump Isn’t OK, Regardless Of Your Politics

Emily Ratajkowski has no time for slut-shaming.
The actress and model tweeted on Monday night that a New York Times reporter called Melania Trump “a hooker,” and she was having none of it.
“Whatever your politics, it’s crucial to call it out for what it is: slut-shaming,” Ratajkowski said.

Ratajkowski, who was an outspoken Bernie Sanders supporter during the Democratic primaries, has written extensively about double standards and slut-shaming. In February 2016, she wrote an essay Continue reading "Emily Ratajkowski: Slut-Shaming Melania Trump Isn’t OK, Regardless Of Your Politics"

Time’s Powerful New Cover Reminds The World The Resistance To Trump Has Arrived

Time Magazine has used its February 8 cover to drive home the significance of the Women’s March on Washington. The cover, complete with the headline “The Resistance Rises,” features a striking image of the now-infamous pink “pussy hat.

The cover is a strong comment on powerful resistance that has formed in response to President Donald Trump, with a specific focus on the influence the Women’s March ― which close to 3 million people are estimated to have attended worldwide ― has had on public consciousness.
“There is no precedent in U.S. history for the show of collective outrage that answered Trump’s Inauguration,” wrote Time’s Karl Vick in the magazine’s cover Continue reading "Time’s Powerful New Cover Reminds The World The Resistance To Trump Has Arrived"

Gretchen Carlson’s Fight Against Sexual Harassment Is Just Beginning

On Tuesday evening, Gretchen Carlson announced that she will be starting a foundation for women and girls.
The announcement, part of her Facebook Live Q&A with Good Housekeeping’s Jane Francisco, comes just months after her controversial lawsuit against former employer Fox News. In July, Carlson accused then-Fox News CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment. He stepped down a few weeks later, with other high-profile women in media such as Megyn Kelly, Andrea Tantaros and Shelley Ross also coming forward about the harassment they were subjected to by Ailes.
Now that the Ailes lawsuit and Carlson’s relationship with Fox News are both over, Carlson is devoting her career to the issue of workplace sexual harassment.
Prior to her very public experience of taking on her powerful employer, Carlson had no idea that so many women also shared her experience .

“Every woman has a story,” she told Francisco on Tuesday. Continue reading "Gretchen Carlson’s Fight Against Sexual Harassment Is Just Beginning"
