CNN’s Jake Tapper Calls White House Claim That UK Spied On Trump An ‘Embarrassment’

An incredulous Jake Tapper called the White House’s claims that former President Barack Obama worked with British intelligence officers to conduct surveillance on President Donald Trump “outlandish,” “another wild accusation” and an “embarrassment” during a blistering segment on his CNN show “The Lead” on Friday.
“Does smearing British intelligence make your family more safe? No? So why is the White House doing it? What is the White House defending here?” Tapper asked. “Because it damn sure isn’t national security or American credibility before the world.”
Tapper’s scathing rebuke of Trump and the White House followed a joint press conference with Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at which Trump tried to not take responsibility for White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s remarks at a briefing Continue reading "CNN’s Jake Tapper Calls White House Claim That UK Spied On Trump An ‘Embarrassment’"

Donald Trump Suggests He’ll Sue NBC Over ‘Access Hollywood’ Video Leak

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Thursday he might sue NBC over leaked “Access Hollywood” video that caught him bragging about groping and kissing women.
Trump told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that release of the 2005 recording earlier this month was “illegal.” But he stopped short of saying he’d definitely sue the network.
“Well, you’ll see, you’ll see ― you’re going to see after the election,” Trump said on “The O’Reilly Factor,” responding to a question asking if he’d sue. “But I will tell you first of all, it shouldn’t have been said, but it was locker room talk. And yeah, I mean you know we’re gonna find out soon enough, I will tell you.”  Trump argued that the release of the clip ― a hot-mic recording of his Continue reading "Donald Trump Suggests He’ll Sue NBC Over ‘Access Hollywood’ Video Leak"

Nancy Grace: ‘Nothing Wrong’ With How Police Interrogated Brendan Dassey In ‘Making A Murderer’

Arguing that there was “nothing wrong” with the controversial police interrogation that led to his imprisonment, HLN host Nancy Grace said this week that she’s unhappy with a judge who overturned the conviction of Brendan Dassey, a young man featured in the Netflix documentary series “Making A Murderer.”
“Tell me what is was wrong with that interrogation,” Grace said on her eponymous show Monday night. “Because I saw nothing was wrong with it.”
The federal judge in question, William Duffin of the Eastern District of Wisconsin, had a different view of the interrogation, which took place in 2006, when Dassey was a teenager.
In that interview, Dassey was being questioned about the slaying of Teresa Halbach, a photographer. After an excruciating, four-hour interrogation without a parent or a lawyer present ― a session that critics say involved flawed police tactics with investigators posing leading questions ― Dassey Continue reading "Nancy Grace: ‘Nothing Wrong’ With How Police Interrogated Brendan Dassey In ‘Making A Murderer’"

CNN Host Accuses Fox News Of ‘Spying’ On Him Through Staffer He Dated

CNN’s Brian Stelter said Tuesday that a Fox News staffer he was dating about a decade ago was actually a spy sent by the network to report on him.
“About 10 years ago I had a crush on a woman at Fox News,” Stelter said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” show. “She was a low-level staffer. I was in college at the time. So I was going out on what I thought were dates. Chris, I thought these were dates. These were not dates. She was actually reporting back to Fox News about me.”
While in college, Stelter founded a noted media blog called TVNewser.
He alleged Tuesday that the unnamed female staffer was relaying back to Fox News what he thought about the network as well as what he thought about its rivals CNN and MSNBC.
“Because I was a reporter on the beat, they were Continue reading "CNN Host Accuses Fox News Of ‘Spying’ On Him Through Staffer He Dated"

Brussels Shows The Limits Of Mass Surveillance — Again

The mass surveillance debate in Washington has long been framed as a tradeoff between liberty and security. The basic assumption is that in order to get greater security, we may have to give up some liberty. But the attack in Brussels Tuesday morning is just the latest reminder that sacrificing liberty doesn't come with any security promises -- and may in fact make us less safe.

As European and U.S. intelligence services have begun to rely heavily on surveillance and data analysis, the opportunity cost has been human intelligence. Entire neighborhoods have become black boxes to European security services, even as data and metadata are gobbled up, stored and analyzed by the gigaton.

Meanwhile, terrorist networks have turned to burner phones and easily available encryption technology, leaving the big eye in the sky with nothing to see. Without eyes on the ground, Western governments have become blind.

"After the

Gawker’s Wikipedia Pages Get Trolled In Wake Of Hulk Hogan Verdict

The Wikipedia entries for Gawker and Gawker Media were trolled Friday night with mocking imagery, links and text following a Florida jury's $115 million verdict against the publisher in Hulk Hogan's sex tape lawsuit.
The photo on the Gawker Media entry was briefly changed to the photo that appears atop the Wikipedia entry for Hogan, the ex-wrestler and media personality. "Gawker Media" was changed to "Cuckold Media," and the Web address that usually links to Gawker Media's front page instead took users to Hogan's website, HulkHogan.com. The "current status" field, which usually reads "active," was changed to "BTFO," slang for blown the f*** out, and later to "Completely destroyed."
Here's a screenshot of one of the revisions:

In Gawker's Wikipedia entry, the owner field was changed to "Hulk Hogan," with a link to his website. "Current status" was changed to "Cucked."

Fox Business Guest Explodes: Obama ‘Is Such A Total P***y, It’s Stunning’

Ralph Peters, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and frequently angry and acerbic Fox guest, presented his usual demeanor again Monday during a live interview in which he called President Barack Obama a "total pussy."
When Fox Business Network's Stuart Varney of "Varney & Co." asked about Obama's Sunday night address on terrorism, Peters melted down.
"Well, first of all, he keeps speaking about 'we can't give into our fears.' You know, 'don't be afraid.' Look, Mr. President, we're not afraid. We're angry. We're pissed off. We're furious. We want to see you react. We want you to do something," Continue reading "Fox Business Guest Explodes: Obama ‘Is Such A Total P***y, It’s Stunning’"
