George W. Bush Gave Us Donald Trump. Now He Wants To Be Forgiven.

We’ve all seen the picture. It’s the opening of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, and George W. Bush is sharing a brief snuggle with Michelle Obama. The first lady, maternal and forgiving, has both arms around the former president, who looks like he wants a tummy rub.
When the hug went viral last September, it triggered a once-unimaginable bipartisan “Awww!” that echoed throughout social and established media. Dubbed “The Embrace Seen Around the World” by The New York Times, the photo seemed to hold the power of magic, or at least the power of the most adorable cat video: It cast a spell accelerating a general public softening toward a man once widely scorned as a historic failure, dismissed by many on the left as a blood-spattered buffoon who belonged in a cell at The Hague.
Humans are nostalgic by nature, and history Continue reading "George W. Bush Gave Us Donald Trump. Now He Wants To Be Forgiven."

James O’Keefe Threatens To Release ‘Hundreds Of Hours’ Of Leaked Newsroom Footage Soon

Conservative provocateur James O’Keefe III said on Tuesday that he will soon release “hundreds of hours” of unaired footage secreted out of a major news organization.
The footage could come as early as Thursday, he told Fox News host Sean Hannity during a radio interview. The footage was provided to him, O’Keefe said, by people inside the network.
A Huffington Post reporter, who was also on the radio program, asked if O’Keefe had acquired the footage from camera or set crew members who would have access to it, but he declined to say. Networks record off-air interactions between hosts, reporters and guests, and a crew member sympathetic to O’Keefe’s cause could potentially access a lot of material.
After the radio interview was recorded, HuffPost asked if O’Keefe would be releasing Continue reading "James O’Keefe Threatens To Release ‘Hundreds Of Hours’ Of Leaked Newsroom Footage Soon"

Donald Trump’s Campaign Triggered Memories Of Sexual Assault For NPR Star Diane Rehm

WASHINGTON ― For millions of people across the country who’ve been victims of sexual assault, the presidential election became unusually personal in the past several weeks, as Republican nominee Donald J. Trump bragged about his ability to grope women without their consent.
That boast was followed by at least a dozen women coming forward to say Trump had acted toward them in the way he described in leaked audio. The episode, said NPR talk-show host Diane Rehm, triggered memories of her own assault as a child, she told The Huffington Post in an interview.
Rehm said she chose not to share her story on “The Diane Rehm Show” in the context of Trump’s remarks because she’d talked about it for a 1999 profile in The Washington Post, and had also written about it. “People have known about it, and what happened to me is in no way in comparison to what Continue reading "Donald Trump’s Campaign Triggered Memories Of Sexual Assault For NPR Star Diane Rehm"

Is Shep Smith The Future Of Fox News?

NEW YORK ― It’s 3:00 in the afternoon, and Shepard Smith is in the chair. Fox News viewers are about to be in for an hour of broadcasting that is at once deeply familiar ― Shep has been on the network’s air since it went live 20 years ago ― and also just as strange.
Shep, 52, is not what you’re used to if you go to Fox News for its brand of hard-edged, Republican rabble-rousing or affirmations that your conservative world view is infallibly correct. Today on “Shepard Smith Reporting” will be no different.
With nine producers and editors behind him in a futuristic-looking, state-of-the-art studio built only for Shep ― and let’s just call him Shep for this article, since that’s how he’s known ― he launches Thursday’s show Continue reading "Is Shep Smith The Future Of Fox News?"

Here’s How The AP Should Have Written Its Hillary Clinton Article

On Tuesday, The Associated Press published a sweeping new investigation into the mingling of Clinton Foundation donors and official State Department business. It has since come under fire for conceptual and structural flaws. By limiting its investigation of the Clinton Foundation to specific financial contributions that led to direct and specific benefits for donors, The Associated Press left itself vulnerable to criticism that no verifiable “quid pro quo” could be established from its findings. By trying to cram its findings into a small box, it distorted what it found, and missed the bigger picture. If the AP had conceived of the donations as just one of many exchanges of money, prestige and reciprocal back-patting that bind global elites, its case against the Clintons would be considerably stronger. So, with that vision in mind, we’ve done a write-through of the AP’s story ― a heavy edit that relies in many places Continue reading "Here’s How The AP Should Have Written Its Hillary Clinton Article"

Did The Trump Campaign Just Get Hit With The Monica Langley Curse?

CLEVELAND ― As Eric Trump was set to begin his high-profile speech Wednesday night, he looked over and saw a familiar face. “Good luck,” said Monica Langley, a Wall Street Journal reporter who covers his father, Donald Trump.
“Monica, we love you!” the younger Trump replied, in an exchange captured by several political reporters standing nearby.
Langley is a “senior special writer” at the Journal, and she clarifies in her Twitter bio that she writes “page-one profiles of CEOs, billionaires, presidential candidates and key news figures.”
She’s been known for her glowing coverage of Donald Trump this campaign season, which has been returned with tremendous access, private plane rides, and, at least according to Eric, some love, Continue reading "Did The Trump Campaign Just Get Hit With The Monica Langley Curse?"

Ann Coulter Says ‘Every Woman Who Has Ever Been Employed By Fox’ Has Stories About Roger Ailes

CLEVELAND ― Conservative author Ann Coulter said she expects Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes to lose his position with the cable network following another high-profile report of sexual harassment accusations.
It looks increasingly doubtful that the 76-year-old media titan can cling to power after two decades of running Fox News. Network anchor Megyn Kelly told investigators looking into sexual harassment accusations made by former “Fox & Friends” host Gretchen Carlson that Ailes had harassed her as well, according to a New York magazine report published Tuesday.
“So that means he’s definitely out, by the way,” Coulter told The Huffington Post shortly after the new report dropped.
Coulter has never been employed by Fox News, but has been a familiar face on the network as a fiery commentator. The author said recently that she has heard about allegations against Ailes in the past, even as Continue reading "Ann Coulter Says ‘Every Woman Who Has Ever Been Employed By Fox’ Has Stories About Roger Ailes"
