Secretary of State Mike Pompeo cracked a smile when asked about reports that North Korea executed four officials following the unsuccessful summit in Hanoi between President Donald Trump and dictator Kim Jong Un. On ABC News Sunday show This Week, guest anchor Jonathan Karl posed the question: “There were reports out of the region that after the Hanoi summit several of the people that you were negotiating with, that were part of that negotiating team at Hanoi were executed. Do we believe those reports are accurate?” “I don’t have anything to add to that for you this morning,” Pompeo replied. “But there seems to have been some kind of a shakeup of his team over there?” Karl pressed. “It does appear that the next time we have serious conversations that my counterpart will be someone else,” Pompeo said. “But we don’t know that for sure, just as Continue reading "Pompeo Smirks When Asked If North Korea Executed Negotiators: Next Time My Counterpart Might Be Someone Else…"

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was pressed in an interview Sunday on the president’s claims about Russia’s involvement in Venezuela. On This Week, anchor Jonathan Karl aired a clip of President Donald Trump saying, after his call with Vladimir Putin, that the Russian president is “not looking at all to get involved in Venezuela.” “Aren’t they already deeply involved in supporting [Nicolás] Maduro?” Karl asked Pompeo. “The president has said that the Russians must get out,” Pompeo replied. “I don’t think anything the president said is inconsistent with that.” Karl pointed out that Pompeo himself said that Russia convinced Maduro to stay in power when he was considering fleeing Venezuela: “Does the president not realize what you have said publicly? And what is obvious, that Putin is deeply involved in Venezuela? I mean, what does he mean when he’s saying he’s not looking to get Continue reading "ABC’s Karl Grills Pompeo: Does Trump Not Realize What You Have Said Publicly About Venezuela?"

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal said in a rare interview Sunday that he considers President Donald Trump “immoral” and wouldn’t take a job in the administration. McChrystal, a retired four star general and former top commander of U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan, spoke to ABC News anchor Martha Raddatz about the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis and the administration’s Middle East policy. “If you were asked to join the Trump administration, what would you say?” Raddatz asked. “I’d say no,” McChrystal said. “Do you think he’s a liar?” Raddatz followed up. “I don’t think he tells the truth,” McChrystal said. “Is Trump immoral in your view?” the ABC anchor asked. McChrystal: “I think he is.” When asked what he would say to Trump supporters, McChrystal said he would not tell them “they are wrong.” “What I would ask every American to do is Continue reading "Former U.S. Commander McChrystal: Trump is Immoral and Dishonest"

Michelle Obama revealed she suffered a miscarriage 20 years ago, and that both of her daughters with Barack were conceived through in vitro fertilization. Obama opened up about her troubles with pregnancy in an interview on Good Morning America Friday, where the former first lady was on to speak about her upcoming memoir, Becoming. “I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed,” Obama told ABC anchor Robin Roberts. “Because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.” “That’s one of the reasons why I think it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen,” she added. Obama said she realized “the biological clock is real” and “egg production is limited,” when she was in her mid-30s, and underwent IVF to conceive her daughters. Obama’s memoir, to Continue reading "Michelle Obama Reveals She Suffered a Miscarriage 20 Years Ago"

On ABC’s election night coverage, host George Stephanopoulos noted, after the network called KY-6 race for incumbent Republican Andy Barr over Democrat challenger Amy McGrath, that things weren’t going as well as Democrats had hoped and worked for in the House, all things considered. “So far Republicans have picked up one seat in the Senate,” he said, “Democrats have picked up 2 seats in the House, they need 23 to take control.” He then reported on the Kentucky race, and noted that it wasn’t a district the Democrats were necessarily expecting to win, nor were counting on for taking control, but that they did want. “So far, it just has to be said, the Democrats are having, so far, a lot of vote to come in, a difficult night,” he said. “They are not winning where they thought they were going to win,” agreed ABC’s Jon Karl. “We Continue reading "ABC’s George Stephanopoulos Throws Water on Democratic Hopes: So Far They’re Having a ‘Disappointing Night’"

Yesterday ABC News reported that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was played a recording of Jamal Khashoggi‘s murder in the Saudi consulate. The State Department strongly denied the reporting, saying, “Secretary Pompeo has neither heard a tape nor has he seen a transcript related to Jamal Khashoggi’s disappearance.” And now President Donald Trump has weighed in with his favorite phrase to attack the media: “FAKE NEWS!” There’s been massive international pressure on Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi’s murder. President Donald Trump held a contentious press conference with White House reporters on Monday, scolding them for asking questions about Brett Kavanaugh at his trade announcement. The presser started off with a tense exchange between the president and Cecilia Vega, ABC News’ senior White House correspondent. Trump called on Vega, before joking: “She’s shocked that I picked her. She’s like in a state of shock.” “I’m not. Thank you, Mr. President,” Vega replied. Trump’s reply made headlines, everywhere from the Washington Post to Buzzfeed News to the Daily Beast to Bloomberg: “That’s okay, I know you’re not thinking. You never do.” “I’m sorry?” Vega shot back, with a glare. “No, go ahead,” Trump said with a laugh, and Vega asked her question. It’s hard to tell exactly what Trump said to Vega, given the possible interpretations of their exchange, and how hard it is for Continue reading "Did Trump Insult ABC News Reporter Cecilia Vega and Tell Her She ‘Never’ Thinks?"

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) appeared fed up with Judge Brett Kavanaugh‘s behavior at last week’s Judiciary Committee hearing on sexual assault allegations against the SCOTUS nominee, calling out his claim that it amounted to a left wing smear. Speaking to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, Hirono said senators now need to focus on determining “whether Judge Kavanaugh is credible” and “whether he was candid with us,” adding that his allegations that Democrats are involved in a scheme to undermine him “was so bizarre.” “And, by the way, even as all of these accusations about this being politically motivated are being tossed around, everyone acknowledges, including Judge Kavanaugh, that Dr. Ford is not being politically motivated,” she noted. The senator then turned to the FBI investigation into Kavanaugh, which was requested last week by Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), whose vote for the nominee remains uncertain. Whether the Continue reading "Sen. Hirono Rips Kavanaugh for ‘Bizarre’ Behavior, Suggests FBI Probe Could Become ‘Farce’"

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday with little answers in the wake of mass confusion over whether Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein still has a job. It was alternately reported on Monday that Rosenstein — in the wake of reporting he once floated removing Donald Trump from office — would resign or be fired, until the White House announced he would meet with the president on Thursday. GMA host George Stephanopoulos asked Sanders: “Does the president have confidence in Mr. Rosenstein?” “The president has confidence in the system,” Sanders replied. “That’s not what I asked,” Stephanopoulos shot back. “Uh well — again, I’m not get ahead of the conversation that’s gonna take place,” Sanders said. “Certainly he wants things to take place. There have been a number of incidents that have caused a great deal of concern, not just to the president, but Continue reading "Sarah Sanders Refuses to Say Trump Won’t Fire Rod Rosenstein"

Former CIA Chief Leon Panetta: Mueller ‘Very Close to Making a Case for Obstruction of Justice’ Against Trump

Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe into Russian involvement in the 2016 election has been a source of never-ending speculation while remaining virtually leak-free, but Leon Panetta suspects an obstruction of justice case may be on the way. On Sunday, the former CIA director and defense secretary told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz evidence is mounting against President Donald Trump that might land him in the hot seat. “They are getting very close to making a case for obstruction of justice not only by the steps that were taken in terms of the president demeaning and attacking a witch hunt, but also the fact that Rudy Giuliani himself has said that the whole purpose of their effort is to undermine the credibility of the special counsel, and then when you add to that the dismissal of those that were involved in the investigation, I think you begin to piece together the Continue reading "Former CIA Chief Leon Panetta: Mueller ‘Very Close to Making a Case for Obstruction of Justice’ Against Trump"

Martha Raddatz: At Times McCain Memorial Felt Like ‘A Censure of Donald Trump’

In the wake of Sen. John McCain‘s funeral, a ceremony that was both a celebration of his life and a condemnation of the commander in chief, the media has a lot to say. ABC News’ Martha Raddatz was one of several reporters to recap the event Sunday morning on This Week, noting the service was comparable to that of a president rather than a senator. Reviewing the list of invitees and the speeches made, Raddatz said it “stood as an emotional admonishment of the partisan politics increasingly consuming this country, at times, as much a censure of Donald Trump as an embrace of an American hero.” Through Continue reading "Martha Raddatz: At Times McCain Memorial Felt Like ‘A Censure of Donald Trump’"

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl asked Kellyanne Conway asked her a tough question on This Week Sunday morning: who is the highest level African-American working in the White House. Karl first asked Conway about Omarosa Manigault‘s claims that the president used racial epithets in the White House, and the Trump aide denied the allegations. She then read a statement from Trump last year denouncing racism after the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. The ABC News anchor pointed out that Trump said “there were very fine people on both sides” of the Charlottesville rally, in which white supremacists clashed with protestors. The two went back and forth, with Conway refusing to say who were the “very fine people” marching in the white supremacist rally. “Omarosa was the most prominent, high level African-American serving in the West Wing on President Trump’s staff,” Karl said. “Who now is that person? Who is Continue reading "Kellyanne Conway Squirms When ABC News’ Karl Asks Who is Highest Level African-American in White House"

Howard Kurtz Scolds MSNBC, CNN For Not Covering Return of US Remains From North Korea: ‘The Wrong Call’

On Fox News on Thursday, host of Media Buzz Howard Kurtz discussed the lack of coverage of the ceremony in Hawaii yesterday, held for the return of remains of American servicemembers from North Korea. The return of the remains was part of the negotiation between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un earlier this year. Fox News carried the ceremony in full on Wednesday night, and were the only network to do so. Kurtz said that this was a mistake on the part of the other networks, and another example of their failing to understand the heartland. “I understand the temptation to cover other, more controversial Trump news, he said. “But that was the wrong call and here’s why.” “One, you can’t overstate the emotional significance of these presumed remains of American fighting soldiers coming home 65 years after the Korean war ended,” he said. “And two, all of this

Fresh developments in Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation prompted President Donald Trump‘s Wednesday morning Twitter meltdown, according to a new report in ABC News. Per ABC News, Mueller’s office informed informed Trump’s team that they want to ask the president about obstruction of justice, and “will limit the scope of questioning and would like to ask questions both orally and written for the President to respond to.” That news reportedly inspired Trump’s frantic Wednesday morning tweetstorm, which began by quoting an Alan Dershowitz appearance on Hannity in which the lawyer slammed the Mueller probe. Trump didn’t stop there. He followed that up with a tweet calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to stop the Mueller probe (the White House later said this was an “opinion”, not a command); whined that the U.S. government didn’t tell him about the investigation into Paul Manafort when he tapped him Continue reading "Trump’s Russia Tweetstorm Reportedly Inspired By News Mueller Wants to Ask About Obstruction"

ABC News Chief Legal Analyst and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams said that President Donald Trump‘s proposal to revoke the security clearances of his critics is “shameful” on Good Morning America Tuesday. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stunned the briefing room on Monday when she declared the president was weighing revoking the security clearances of six former Obama officials who have been critical of Trump. The officials included former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director Michael Hayden, and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Abrams pointed out that millions of people have security clearance, which “doesn’t mean you get access to secure information. “What it means is you’re part of the eligible pool of people who could get access.” “Then there’s another step,” Continue reading "Dan Abrams: Trump Revoking Security Clearance of His Critics Would Be ‘Shameful’"

It’s weird why the chyron error was so specific, but it was up for approximately 7 seconds and ABC News has now apologized: You can watch the brief moment above, via ABC News. Shep Smith, Anderson Cooper, and vertical-video lava: That’s what Facebook is bringing to its underperforming Watch tab soon in its first slate of Facebook-funded news video shows. As Facebook’s Campbell Brown put it in a post:
Earlier this year we made a commitment to show news that is trustworthy, informative, and local on Facebook. As a part of that commitment, we are creating a dedicated section within Watch for news shows produced exclusively for Facebook by news publishers. With this effort, we are testing a destination for high quality and timely news content on the platform. Today we are announcing the first slate of these funded news shows for Facebook Watch.
Here are the shows, which feature the usual mix of networks (ABC, CNN, Fox, Univision) and digital players (ATTN:, Mic) — plus the unusual addition of an Alabama-based show produced by Advance Local.
ABC News’ “On Location” is a Continue reading "Here’s what the first Facebook-funded news shows will look like"
