In the wake of the mass shooting in Aurora, Illinois that left five people dead on Friday, presidential candidate and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) called for more gun control during a campaign stop in Wisconsin. “It is time to do something about, by the way, after the tragedy in what we saw happen in Aurora, Illinois yesterday. It is time to put sensible gun legislation in place,” Klobuchar said to voters. “I actually sat across from the president at that meeting, because I have a bill, a bipartisan bill, involving domestic violence, I counted nine times he said he was for universal background checks,” she added. CNN reported the shooter had been identified by police and they said he was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm because he was convicted of felony aggravated assault in Mississippi in 1995. His conviction was flagged a few days shortly after he bought the gun Continue reading "Sen. Klobuchar Calls for More ‘Sensible’ Gun Control After Mass Shooting in Aurora, IL"

Should Democratic Presidential Candidates Allow Themselves to Be Interviewed on Fox News?

Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar appeared to urge her fellow candidates to venture into the “uncomfortable” space that is Fox News, but is that a good move for Democrats looking to secure votes from a base that’s not particularly fond of the network? On Tuesday night, Klobuchar concluded her interview with Bret Baier by volunteering that “One of the reasons I came on this show is that I believe candidates for office, whether Democrat or Republican, have to go not just where it’s comfortable, but where it’s uncomfortable. And I love you. Fox may not always be comfortable for Democrats but I want to make that point.” That’s a bold suggestion to make in an election season with an ever-growing Democratic field of candidates who will be competing for votes from a base that had no love for Fox News, to begin with, and increasingly views Continue reading "Should Democratic Presidential Candidates Allow Themselves to Be Interviewed on Fox News?"

Amy Klobuchar to Bret Baier: ‘I Love You’ But Fox News is Not Always ‘Comfortable for Democrats’

Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar ventured into the “uncomfortable” territory of Fox News Tuesday night, and appeared to urge other Democrats to do the same. On tonight’s edition of Special Report with Bret Baier, Klobuchar sat for two full segments of questions from host Bret Baier, covering a range of topics that included the Green New Deal (she’s sort of for it), immigration (for), border security (for), and others. Toward the interview, Baier asked “Do you have the temperament to be president?” Although this is no longer such a high bar, Klobuchar answered in the affirmative. “I do,” she said. “I think I showed it during the Kavanaugh hearings and I’m sure that through my life in terms of how I dealt with adversity in my personal life, growing up with my dad with a pretty severe drinking problem — he’s doing well now Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar to Bret Baier: ‘I Love You’ But Fox News is Not Always ‘Comfortable for Democrats’"

A Veep writer confirmed the HBO show’s jokes about leg-shaving was inspired by rumors that the newest Democratic presidential contender for 2020, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), forced staffers to shave her legs. “It is a well-known rumor that we were told a million times by millions of people,” Veep writer David Mandel told Slate‘s Jeremy Stahl after tweeting a clip of the scene in which the joke is made. “I once dry shaved that woman’s desk under her desk during a cabinet meeting,” says a fictional Veep staffer about her fictional boss Selina Meyer — the show’s main character played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Stahl, disclosing his “brother has worked on the show for the past two seasons,” says the scene was written based on what the writers had heard about Continue reading "Veep Writer Confirms: Rumor About Staffer Shaving Amy Klobuchar’s Legs Inspired Joke on HBO Show"

Klobuchar Reportedly Called New Employers of Her Departing Staffers to Have Their Job Offers Rescinded

In a potentially embarrassing AP report for the newest 2020 presidential nominee Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), more than a dozen current and former staffers describe her as an abusive boss who often tried to have job offers rescinded when they tried to jump ship. Interviews with some of Klobuchar’s Capitol Hill staffers portray a hostile work environment that was run on fear, abuse, and humiliation. According to staffers, the overly critical senator will sometimes turn a single mistake into a “multi-day affair” of shaming and demeaning, followed by post-work angry late-night phone calls and all-caps emails. “The way she treats staff is disqualifying,” said a former female staffer, who made it clear that Klobuchar “has fully earned reputation” as a horrible boss “independent of her gender.” The former staffer added that she would not vote for Klobuchar in the Democratic primary despite her progressive political views. Three former Klobuchar Continue reading "Klobuchar Reportedly Called New Employers of Her Departing Staffers to Have Their Job Offers Rescinded"

Former Campaign Aide Responds to Klobuchar’s Clinton Burn: She ‘Should Thank Hillary’

A pair of former Hillary Clinton campaign aides responded to the not-so-veiled shot that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) took at Clinton over the weekend. During her campaign launch on Sunday, Klobuchar rankled some Clinton supporters by telling the crowd “We’re going to be in Iowa and in Wisconsin. I think we’re starting in Wisconsin because as you remember there wasn’t a lot of campaigning in Wisconsin in 2016. With me, that changes.” On Monday afternoon’s edition of CNN Newsroom With Brooke Baldwin, former Clinton campaign senior advisers Jess McIntosh and Joel Payne happened to be the panel, and anchor Brooke Baldwin concluded their segment by asking about Klobuchar’s comments. Baldwin read Klobuchar’s comment, and said “Burn! I mean, itt wasn’t like Hillary Clinton went to Wisconsin very much.” “After we get off the air, we’re going to go have drinks,” Payne joked. “Look at what happened in Wisconsin, Continue reading "Former Campaign Aide Responds to Klobuchar’s Clinton Burn: She ‘Should Thank Hillary’"

Fox News Host Hits ‘Sexist Feel’ to Criticism of Dem Sen. Amy Klobuchar

Fox News’ Outnumbered took on the debate surrounding Sen. Amy Klobuchar‘s (D-MN) treatment of her staff, following her announcement that she’s running for president in 2020. Several reports dropped last week in which anonymous former staffers described a toxic work environment created by Klobuchar, a three-term senator. “I always get a little queasy about these inside political hit jobs from anonymous sources on the eve of somebody announcing their intention to run for president,” said Outnumbered guest host Charlie Hurt. “Obviously, there is a difference between being a tough boss in some sort of monster.” Hurt suggested the “sniping” at Klobuchar was the result of liberal Democrats opposed to the senator’s bid for president. “It feels like a bit of a hit job even if it’s true in some way and she is a tough boss,” said Outnumbered host Melissa Francis. “Only because it flies in the face Continue reading "Fox News Host Hits ‘Sexist Feel’ to Criticism of Dem Sen. MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Bashes Reports of Klobuchar Abusing Staff as Sexist : When Have We Ever Called a Man ‘Bossy?’

Stephanie Ruhle presided over a heated conversation on Monday as her MSNBC panel discussed Senator Amy Klobuchar‘s (D-MN) alleged, abusive behavior towards her staff. As Klobuchar kicks off her 2020 presidential bid, she’s facing questions over recent reports saying has mistreated members of her staff in the past. Ruhle discussed the reports with GOP strategist Evan Siegfried and Democratic commentator Christine Quinn, and the three debated whether women of political ambition face higher levels of scrutiny than men. Throughout the debate, Quinn complained she was “so sick and tired” of women on the rise being called names and getting undermined in a way that men don’t experience to the same degree. Siegfried countered by invoking the allegations against Klobuchar from her reported ex-staffers, which prompted Ruhle to ask him to cite a male politician who has been called out by former staffers like women who’ve been called “a Continue reading "MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Bashes Reports of Klobuchar Abusing Staff as Sexist : When Have We Ever Called a Man ‘Bossy?’"

The View co-hosts Joy Behar and Meghan McCain got into a testy spat with each other while the panel discussing Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s (D-MN) presidential campaign announcement from the weekend. “She has a reputation for being a pretty tough woman, for having not the best temperament, and he has a reputation for not having the best temperament and maybe he’s met his match,” Sunny Hostin said. “That’s what the country needs, a slide to the bottom and keep bullying each other. That’s what the country needs,” Abby Huntsman jokingly added. Then, McCain tried to get involved in the debate. “Can I speak now? Permission to speak now on Amy Klobuchar?” She looked at Behar, who appeared to be trying to move on. “By all means, keep going, Joy,” McCain said, exasperated. “If you’re going to have a hissy fit, we can’t continue,” Behar said, cutting off McCain’s statement. “Let’s go to Continue reading "Joy Behar and Meghan McCain Snipe at Each Other: ‘If You’re Going to Have a Hissy Fit, We Can’t Continue’"

After several reports alleging Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) has repeatedly mistreated her staff, the 2020 presidential hopeful did not deny the claims in response, acknowledging that she is a “tough” boss with “high expectations” instead. Klobuchar made the following comments on Good Morning America today:
“Well, first of all, I love my staff. I wouldn’t be where I am and we wouldn’t be able to pass all those bills and do all that work if we didn’t have a great staff. I’m tough. I push people. That is true. but my point my point is, I have high expectations for myself, I have high expectation for the people that work for me, and I have high expectations for this country.”
The Minnesota lawmaker gave reporters a similar statement after her presidential announcement rally yesterday, adding, “But in the end, there are so many great stories of our staff that have been with Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar on Reports She’s An Awful Boss: ‘I’m Tough’ And Have ‘High Expectations’ for My Staff"

Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski ripped the apparent softness of the Commander in Chief during a quick report on a recent very snowy and could outdoor event. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced her candidacy for President this weekend in a very snowy outdoor event in Minneapolis this weekend, which drew the attention of President Donald Trump. The freezing temperatures and significant snowfall may have led other candidates to postpone or cut short an outdoor announcement, but nonetheless, she persisted, which drew praise for the Democratic senator from the predictable left of center outlets. The president, however, saw this as an event worthy of his mockery. Trump tweeted Sunday:

On Sunday, President Donald Trump mocked newly-announced presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar for her open-air announcement rally that took place in a snowstorm and frigid temperatures. “Well, it happened again,” Trump wrote. “Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman).” Speaking in the snowy weather in Minneapolis, Klobuchar said that the leaders in Washington have “sat on the sidelines” too long instead of addressing climate change. Klobuchar Announces She’s Running for President ‘For Every Person Who Wants Their Work Recognized and Rewarded’

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) braved fifteen degree temperatures to announce her bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, and appeared to subtly reference recent attacks on her toughness as a boss. During a rally at Minnesota’s Boom Island Park, Klobuchar spoke to a crowd of Minnesotans — and, judging by the snow and frigid temperatures, several members of the Night’s Watch — to kick off her presidential campaign. About nine minutes into her speech, Klobuchar made it official. “So today, on an island in the middle of the mighty Mississippi, in our nation’s heartland, at a time when we must heal the heart of our democracy and renew our commitment to the common good, I stand before you as the granddaughter of an iron ore miner, as the daughter of a teacher and a newspaper man, as the first woman elected to the United States Senate from the state Continue reading "Klobuchar Announces She’s Running for President ‘For Every Person Who Wants Their Work Recognized and Rewarded’"

Amy Klobuchar Reportedly Threw a Binder at Staffer During Fit of Rage

An explosive new BuzzFeed News report found that presidential hopeful Senator Amy Klobuchar’s (D-MN) abuse toward her staff was much more severe than previously reported. After reviewing emails and interviewing eight former staffers, the outlet found that the Minnesota Democrat viciously tore into her staff over minor mistakes and even threatened to fire them. In a number of emails, the outlet found that Klobuchar described her staff as “the worst in … years” and “the worst in my life.” “I cried. I cried, like, all the time,” one ex-staffer told BuzzFeed News. Other staffers claimed she humiliated and tormented them, often exploding with rage at her subordinates and throwing physical tantrums. One such incident resulted in Klobuchar hurling a binder at a staffer, who believes the senator did not mean to hit them. An ex-staffer suggested Klobuchar’s treatment of staffers shows her true colors as a leader. “I’ve always been taught that your true character Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar Reportedly Threw a Binder at Staffer During Fit of Rage"

Amy Klobuchar Reportedly Can’t Get a 2020 Campaign Chief Because of Reputation For Mistreating Staff

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will announce this Sunday whether she is running for president. But one new report asserts that the Minnesota senator has had quite a bit of trouble getting someone to run her 2020 camapign — thanks to a reputation for mistreating her staff. According to HuffPost, at least three people have pulled out of consideration from running Klobuchar’s presidential campaign. Klobuchar, according to the database Legistorm (via The New York Times), has the third most staff turnover of anyone in Congress. From 2001-2016, she was ranked No. 1 in that dubious category. The HuffPost report describes an incident in which the senator actually doled out grade school-type tardy slips to her staff on a day when they were running behind. From the report:
One morning several years ago, when most of the office staff was running late — the ex-staffer couldn’t remember the reason — Continue reading "Amy Klobuchar Reportedly Can’t Get a 2020 Campaign Chief Because of Reputation For Mistreating Staff"

George Will: Amy Klobuchar Has Best Shot at Toppling Trump

In a new column for The Washington Post, commentary writer George Will bashed the much-hyped, possible 2020 contender former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and said Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) instead has the better chance of beating President Donald Trump. “Surely the silliest aspirant for the Democrats’ 2020 presidential nomination is already known: ‘Beto,’  a. k.a. Robert Francis, O’Rourke is a skateboarding man-child whose fascination with himself caused him to live-stream a recent dental appointment for — open wide, please — teeth cleaning,” Will wrote. Saying that once Democrats are done with “flirting with such insipidity” of O’Rourke’s road trip blogs, Will said they should focus on focus on Klobuchar:

Sen. Amy Klobuchar is the person perhaps best equipped to send the current president packing.

To get the boring part over with, she satisfies the 2020 Chromosome Criterion: The Democratic nominating electorate is disproportionately female and eager to achieve what they Continue reading "George Will: Amy Klobuchar Has Best Shot at Toppling Trump"

Watch AG Nominee Barr’s Very Long Pause When Asked if He’d Jail Journos For ‘Doing Their Jobs’: ‘As a Last Resort…’

Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general William Barr had a long pause in Tuesday’s confirmation hearing when Democrat Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) asked him about the jailing of journalists for, in her words, “doing their jobs.” He did answer, though, and will likely answer further, at length and in writing, at the Senator’s request. Klobuchar began the question by noting her own personal connection. “My dad was a reporter, so I grew up knowing the importance of a free press,” she said. “We obviously have the tragic case of a journalist who worked right here at The Washington Post, Jamal Khashoggi. And it’s a particular concern.” She pointed out her previous questioning of former AG Jeff Sessions on the topic. “I want to ask you something I asked Attorney General Sessions. If you’re confirmed, will the Justice Department jail reporters for doing their jobs?” That’s Continue reading "Watch AG Nominee Barr’s Very Long Pause When Asked if He’d Jail Journos For ‘Doing Their Jobs’: ‘As a Last Resort…’"

Klobuchar ‘Stunned’ By Kavanaugh’s Response to Drinking Questions: His Claims Don’t ‘Make Sense’

Following a contentious exchange with Judge Brett Kavanaugh during last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said she was shocked by the SCOTUS nominee’s behavior as she grilled him about his drinking habits. “I was really stunned about how he acted at that hearing,” she told CNN’s Jake Tapper in a Sunday interview, noting that it was “basically a job interview for the highest court of the land.” On Thursday, as Kavanaugh testified before committee members including Klobuchar, she pressed him to admit whether he’d ever experienced a blackout as a result of excessive drinking. The judge then turned the tables on the senator, asking, “I don’t know, have you?” After a short recess, he apologized for the remark. However, Klobuchar doesn’t seem to buy Kavanaugh’s claim that he hasn’t suffered memory loss from alcohol consumption. “It doesn’t quite make sense to me,” she said, adding Continue reading "Klobuchar ‘Stunned’ By Kavanaugh’s Response to Drinking Questions: His Claims Don’t ‘Make Sense’"

Matt Damon Kills It as Beer-Bro Brett Kavanaugh in SNL Cold Open

The 44th season of Saturday Night Live started off with a bang with a star-studded cold open featuring Matt Damon as a beer-bro styled Brett Kavanaugh. The topic of beer weighed heavily into the epic open as alternately angry and weepy Kavanaugh was questioned by a cast of Senators and Rachel Mitchell, as played by Aidy Bryant. “I am a keg is half full kind of guy,” the SNL Kavanaugh said at one point before moving to a tearful account of his “beautiful” calendars. He also said this when questioned by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, as played by Rachel Dratch: “I was the proudest, drunkest virgin you’ve ever seen.”

The supporting cast also stood out. At one point, Bryant’s Mitchell announced,  “I am mostly here for Twitter.” SNL’s Kate McKinnon, yet again taking on a southern conservative, took on a fired up Sen. Lindsey Graham. “This is Continue reading "Matt Damon Kills It as Beer-Bro Brett Kavanaugh in SNL Cold Open"

Kavanaugh Apologizes for Turning Sen. Klobuchar’s Question About His Drinking Back on Her

Brett Kavanaugh apologized during his Senate hearing tonight after losing his cool minutes earlier at Senator Amy Klobuchar. Klobuchar asked Kavanaugh questions about his drinking when he was in high school in college, noting at one point that her own father has struggled with alcoholism. She directly asked him if he ever “drank so much that you can’t remember what happened or part of what happened the night before.” He responded, “You’re asking about blackout. I don’t know, have you?”

After the Senate Judiciary Committee came back from break, Kavanaugh seemed to realize he stepped in it, because he said this:
“She asked me a question at the end that I responded by asking her a question, and I’m sorry I did that. This is a tough process, I’m sorry about that.”
Klobuchar said she appreciates hearing that, adding again that people with parents who are alcoholics Continue reading "Kavanaugh Apologizes for Turning Sen. Klobuchar’s Question About His Drinking Back on Her"
