Morning Joe tore into President Donald Trump Wednesday for his desire to incite crowds against the media. “He points at the press, and whips the crowd into a frenzy to boo at the press there,” Joe Scarborough said of the rally Trump held in Tampa, FL Tuesday. “This is not only part of his shtick. But, come on, let’s just say it. This is what autocrats do. This is what autocrats do because they hate anybody that’s fact-based.” “People that don’t want their power checked do exactly what Donald Trump does to the free press,” he added. Andrea Mitchell agreed, saying: “I have covered seven American presidents in all these years. And none of them have liked the press. It’s been adversarial. There’s been tensions. But they welcomed it and tolerated it even during the worst of times.” “We went through impeachment, and Lord knows Bill Clinton did Continue reading "Morning Joe Rips Trump Rally in Tampa: ‘This is What Autocrats Do’"
On Morning Joe on Wednesday the cast and crew gave NBC veteran Andrea Mitchell a brief round of applause welcoming her to the show today and in celebration of her forty years as a journalist for NBC News. Over the past week, a number of NBC shows have welcomed Mitchell as a guest and congratulated her on her tenure, including Meet the Press, Today, and Velshi & Ruhle, but the most comprehensive was the video released during Mitchell’s own show, celebrating her career.

MSNBC journalist Andrea Mitchell stopped by The Daily Show and weighed in on President Donald Trump‘s treatment of the media. After congratulating her for her 40 years in journalism, Trevor Noah began by asking her if covering the Trump presidency “that different” from everything America has experienced before. “Absolutely. Very different.” Mitchell firmly answered. “I mean, the first president in modern history who has no government or military experience. So there’s that.” When pressed on the “adversarial relationship” Trump has with the press, Mitchell said he’s “more accessible” where he will “answer questions on the fly,” but has fewer press conferences and press briefings at the White House, insisting that “things have been turned upside down.” “The reality is completely different… Facts don’t seem to matter anymore, which is a problem,” Mitchell told Noah. “Plus no one else can really speak for him. The fact that Continue reading "MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Compares Trump to Stalin: Calling The Press ‘The Enemy’ is ‘Very Dangerious’"
On Thursday, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats sat down with NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell at the Aspen Security Forum to talk about Russian election meddling and Trump’s much-panned Helsinki response and subsequent clean-up attempts. Coats was first asked about his decision to hold firm on his position on Russian meddling despite what Trump said in Helsinki and then, only later, walked back on. The DNI said this: “I felt at this point in time that what we had assessed and reassessed and reassessed and carefully gone over still stands. And that it was important to take that stand on behalf of the intelligence community, on behalf of the American people.” He then noted in a recent CBS interview Trump seemed to come around on the issue and perhaps it is time to “move on.” “As we have seen, the president has made statements relative to — Continue reading "DNI Dan Coats Speaks Out on Trump’s Putin-Presser: ‘I Wish He Had Made a Different Statement’"
NBC’s Andrea Mitchell was dumbstruck today when she saw Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen distract from President Donald Trump‘s latest controversy on Russia by…defending his remarks on Charlottesville. The Homeland Security secretary spoke to Peter Alexander at the Aspen Security Forum on Thursday. Alexander asked what the DHS is doing to clamp down on white nationalists in the year since their march through Virginia. The deadly rally has been a recurring subject in the last few days — with media observers noting that the aftermath was one of Trump’s worst moments before the recent controversy over his meetings with Vladimir Putin. As she fielded questions about Trump’s infamous “both sides” comments, Nielsen said at one point that “it’s not that one side is right, one side is wrong. Anybody that is advocating violence we need to work to mitigate.” Those remarks have taken a few people aback Continue reading "WATCH: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell Flabbergasted By DHS Sec. On Sunday, NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell sat down with MSNBC host Kasie Hunt to talk about the upcoming summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin slated for Monday. Mitchell noted that the summit between the two leaders in Helsinki is “unique.” “We’ve never had a summit with a KGB spymaster, someone who has completely studied and examined Donald Trump and a president who spent the weekend golfing and has not been preparing.” She continued on that on Trump’s side, ‘There was no planning for this summit, no deeply organized strategy sessions” to discuss goals and what they want to get out of it. She further added it was “startling” that Trump is meeting one-on-one with Putin. “We are not going to have a record of this one-on-one meeting and that is alarming to a lot of former advisors in both political parties,” Mitchell Continue reading "NBC’s Andrea Mitchell: There’s Never Been Summit Between KGB Spymaster and POTUS Who Spent Weekend Golfing"
Appearing on on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell to discuss his book on Wednesday, former top Obama aide Ben Rhodes lamented the problem of fake news and its impact on elections. And worried about the lack of government control. Rhodes was referring back to the election, bring up hacking and leaking of emails, but said that pushing back on hacks and leaks doesn’t address “fake news” or “the fact that people’s social media feeds were being polluted by this Russian content favoring Donald Trump. “The government didn’t have a lot of capacity to deal with this. I mean we can’t edit people’s Facebook feeds and say ‘that’s fake news, and that’s not'” he said. “And what worries me today, Andrea, is that we still don’t have a lot of capacity, and frankly our government’s probably not doing anything to prevent this.” This surely brings to mind the worst conservative fears Continue reading "Ben Rhodes: The Government Can’t Control People’s Facebook Feeds and That Worries Me"
