On Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd on Sunday brought up President Donald Trump‘s remarks about Secretary of Defense James Mattis, when he said on 60 Minutes that Mattis is “sort of a Democrat,” which Todd says is “a tell.” “The President, he has a tell of when somebody’s about to lose their job, he says ‘I think they’re kind of a Democrat’, he one time referred to Rod Rosenstein that way,” said Todd. “When asked about the future of Jim Mattis, Secretary of Defense, he said ‘I don’t know anything, but you know… he’s kind of a Democrat.’ That, well, boy that’s a tell.” Todd asked Hoover Institute’s Lanhee Chen, who worked with Mattis in the past, “is he a Democrat?” “Not that I’ve ever seen. I mean I think this would be a staggering finding to anybody who’s spent Continue reading "NBC’s Meet the Press Says Trump Calling Mattis a Dem May Be ‘A Tell’ About Firing: ‘The Writing’s on the Wall’"
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell spoke with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about North Korea and Iran this morning but also took a moment to bring up American values in the context of President Donald Trump‘s tweet about Christine Blasey Ford this morning. “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says,” the President tweeted, “charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!” Mitchell brought up the tweet to Pompeo and asked, “Is that the American value that we should be teaching our women?” “With respect to the confirmation process for Judge Kavanaugh,” he said, “I regret that this rose at the end. This was unfortunately sat on by a United States senator for Continue reading "Andrea Mitchell to Pompeo on Trump’s Ford Tweet: Is That the ‘American Value’ We Should Be Teaching Women?"
As the body of the late senator John McCain was transported to the site of a memorial service in his honor, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell spoke to former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster about McCain’s legacy – and how President Donald Trump treated it. “I think what Senator McCain has become and will remain in our memory and in his legacy, is a unifying force in our country,” McMaster said. “What the senator lamented in his last years was the polarization of American society and the opportunity that presents for Russians and others who are trying to undermine our democracy, undermine our confidence in who we are as a people and our values and our democratic processes and institutions.” “What John McCain did across his whole life is brought people together, together in our common identity as Americans, our common values and individual rights and rule of law and Continue reading "H.R. MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell condemned President Donald Trump‘s failure to mention Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) while signing a defense spending bill named in his honor Monday, stunned by what she called an intentional move to ignore the veteran battling brain cancer. Mitchell delivered the strong remarks in her newscast the following day, blasting Trump’s act of “all but jumping through hoops to avoid even mentioning John McCain by name, shunning the armed services chairman,” something she said was simply “extraordinary.” Her criticisms were echoed by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), who said the scene was “disgraceful.” “It was another example about how for Donald Trump, everything is about Donald Trump,” he told Mitchell. “It’s not about anything bigger, it’s not about the country, it’s not about an American hero who is chairman of the Senate armed services committee who, as you said, is very ill now and who Continue reading "MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Goes Off on Trump for ‘Shunning’ McCain During Bill Signing: ‘Where is the Grace?’"
Morning Joe tore into President Donald Trump Wednesday for his desire to incite crowds against the media. “He points at the press, and whips the crowd into a frenzy to boo at the press there,” Joe Scarborough said of the rally Trump held in Tampa, FL Tuesday. “This is not only part of his shtick. But, come on, let’s just say it. This is what autocrats do. This is what autocrats do because they hate anybody that’s fact-based.” “People that don’t want their power checked do exactly what Donald Trump does to the free press,” he added. Andrea Mitchell agreed, saying: “I have covered seven American presidents in all these years. And none of them have liked the press. It’s been adversarial. There’s been tensions. But they welcomed it and tolerated it even during the worst of times.” “We went through impeachment, and Lord knows Bill Clinton did Continue reading "Morning Joe Rips Trump Rally in Tampa: ‘This is What Autocrats Do’"
