“They’ve been calling it ‘Reefergate,’ syndicated radio host Charlamagne Tha God told Ari Melber on MSNBC Thursday night. The host was referencing the fallout from an interview he and his Breakfast Show colleagues conducted with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA). A number of outlets, notably Fox News, have devoted time to the question of whether the senator was lying about when she smoked marijuana. Harris told the Breakfast Club that she smoked pot during her college days. Later, she was asked by one co-host about her favorite music, and by another about her favorite music to listen to while smoking. Harris replied that she enjoyed Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur — both of whom debuted after Harris was in college. But the senator appeared to be responding to the question of her favorite music overall, not her favorite music to smoke by. That was the contention of Breakfast Club co-host DJ Continue reading "Breakfast Club Radio Hosts Bury Fox News Over Kamala Harris ‘Reefergate’: They’re ‘Absolutely, Positively Lying’"

A lawyer representing 25 undocumented immigrants recently fired by the Trump Organization said on MSNBC tonight a DHS investigation would show that “hundreds” of undocumented immigrants have worked at Trump Organization properties. Immigration attorney Anibal Romero told Ari Melber, “What they are telling me is that they were hired as undocumented immigrants. Some of them, management helped them obtain these fraudulent documents. Others––I have a gentleman I represent, he was told to go find better, fake-looking documents because the original ones that he provided weren’t good-looking enough.” And he added that these workers are telling him “there were hundreds of undocumented immigrants working for the Trump Organization.” Melber asked how high this goes. Romero said his clients told him supervisors and managers knew, and repeated his call for a federal investigation:
“We are certain if the Department of Homeland Security were to conduct an investigation, they will review Continue reading "Attorney on MSNBC: Investigation Would Show ‘Hundreds of Undocumented Immigrants’ Have Worked for Trump Org"

MSNBC’s Ari Melber Slams Fox News for ‘Double Standard’ on Trump’s ‘Executive Time’ vs Obama’s Golfing

MSNBC’s Ari Melber tonight called out Fox News for defending President Donald Trump‘s executive time when hosts on the network were so critical of his predecessor for golfing. The private schedules leaked to Axios show 60 percent of Trump’s schedule is “executive time.” Melber knocked Fox for the spin that “executive time is actually hard work or whatever, it doesn’t really matter anyway.” He showed clips of Martha MacCallum, Howard Kurtz, Greg Gutfeld, and Jesse Watters downplaying the scheduling, along with Eric Trump on Fox & Friends. Melber argued that Trump not working a lot should be something his own supporters should be concerned about, but more than that, Fox News slammed Barack Obama a lot for how much he played golf. And Melber showed some Fox Newsers who criticized Obama, including Sean Hannity saying he’s “the man who will no doubt set records Continue reading "MSNBC’s Ari Melber Slams Fox News for ‘Double Standard’ on Trump’s ‘Executive Time’ vs Obama’s Golfing"

A day after being fired from CNN, former Rep. Jack Kingston demeaned Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for just being “a 29-year-old coffee barista” during an appearance on MSNBC — which led host Ari Melber to call out his guest. “Let me say number one, here we have a 29-year-old coffee barista running management and enterprises, investments and real estate all over the globe, but she’s going to tell him how to manage the world,” Kingston said in response to Ocasio-Cortez joking that “Netflix and chill is not a management style” after it was revealed the president spends much of his workday watching TV. “She’s not being quoted today based on the fact that she worked in retail or in service,” the host shot back. “She’s being quoted as a member of Congress, the same title of yours — do you not give her the same respect of the title you Continue reading "MSNBC’s Ari Melber Calls Out Fmr. After Roger Stone suggested his indictment in Robert Mueller’s probe is a present day “lynching,” NYU law professor Melissa Murray suggested that he and other Republicans who throw around that term should learn about “the lynchings and violence” African-Americans face in the south. “This is a lynching,” Stone began today, during an appearance on Infowars with Alex Jones tdaoy. “This is a legal lynching of me, because I appear on Infowars, because I’m friends with Alex Jones, because I support Donald Trump and I supported him for president, and I still support him, because I helped take down the evil queen, the foul-mouthed, short-tempered, self-centered clepto-cat Hillary Clinton.” Murray responded to Stone’s hyperbolic claim by telling the following to MSNBC’s Ari Melber:
“So lynching, this is straight out of the GOP playbook. Anytime anyone runs into hot water, it’s a ‘high-tech lynching,’ it’s a ‘legal lynching.’ These people Continue reading "MSNBC Guest Rips Roger Stone for Saying He’s Facing a ‘Legal Lynching’: He Should Learn About Actual Lynching"

On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Ari Melber had four Mueller witnesses — Carter Page, Sam Nunberg, Jerome Corsi and Michael Caputo — on at the same time. Afterward, The Beat sent out this concise sum of the segment. Yet others on Twitter also had reactions — strong reactions — to the four of them together on the same panel on MSNBC. Some expressed surprise, while Jonathan Swan of Axios praised the lineup as “One of the great cable news bookings of all time.”

Ari Melber Shuts Down Jerome Corsi Complaining About Mueller Mistreatment: ‘You’re The Original Birther’

During a bonkers segment on MSNBC on Wednesday, host Ari Melber shut down Jerome Corsi’s complaining over his treatment by Robert Mueller‘s prosecutors. “[He was] basically was a thug,” Corsi kvetched about one prosecutor. “His technique, yawning, acting up, asking rapid-fire questions. I mean, I went in to cooperate. I didn’t expect to be treated like a criminal. They were treating me like a criminal, threatening to put me in prison for the rest of my life for memory mistakes.” Melber then pressed him, asking him if he thought he found the “bad cop” routine “unfairly adversarial and trying to break you.” Corsi then said the prosecutors even disparaged his religion. Melber then pushed him further noting “surely” he was not suggesting it was malpractice or illegal to talk about his religion. “You’ve done that with the past president quite a bit. That’s sort of what you’re Continue reading "Ari Melber Shuts Down Jerome Corsi Complaining About Mueller Mistreatment: ‘You’re The Original Birther’"

Jerome Corsi. Sam Nunberg. Carter Page. Michael Caputo. All on the same cable news panel. If that sounds bizarre to you, it pretty much is. MSNBC’s Ari Melber assembled those four players in the Russia probe together tonight and it went about as well as you would expect. Melber went down a list of questions for all four of them regarding Robert Mueller‘s investigation, whether they think it’s a witch hunt, and whether they consider any of the indictments or guilty verdicts Mueller has gotten so far to be legitimate. They also briefly weighed in on Michael Cohen, given his concern about threats against his family, with Caputo saying at one point Cohen is “doing whatever Mueller tells him to do.” Melber got some details from them about their questioning and who they were asked about in particular, which included Roger Stone. You can watch the first Continue reading "Ari Melber Assembles Corsi, Nunberg, Carter Page, and Michael Caputo for One Bizarre Russia Probe Panel"

Ari Melber and GOP Rep. Face Off Over Shutdown: Trump ‘Completely Failed’ at Promise Mexico Would Pay for Wall

MSNBC’s Ari Melber spoke with Congressman Roger Marshall (R- Kansas) tonight about the ongoing shutdown fight, and Melber began by asking, “Donald Trump promised Mexico would pay for the wall. Why do you think he completely failed at that goal?” Marshall said Trump’s goal all along has been border security and keeping America safe. Melber asked if he’s receptive to “opening the government without the wall?” Marshall said that would be a “non-starter.” At one point Melber brought up comments from Marshall in 2017 questioning the feasibility of a border wall. The congressman said he’s just pulling an “isolated quote” and told Melber, “I’ve always said that border security was the priority. I’ve never thought it was feasible to do 2000 miles of wall. I was willing to consider it… You’re really getting way getting down in the needles in the haystack instead of staying focused on Continue reading "Ari Melber and GOP Rep. ‘We Can’t Chill’: Ari Melber Invokes Destiny’s Child to Teach ‘Scrub’ Trump to Pay His Bills

MSNBC’s Ari Melber wants President Donald Trump to learn a lesson from Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child: Pay our bills! In a segment dedicated to the president’s campaign promise that Mexico would pay for his proposed southern border wall, Melber likened Trump to “a scrub who runs up the tab” at a bar and makes someone else pay for it at the last minute. In Trump’s case, that would be saying Mexico will pay for the wall and then getting the money from taxpayers instead. “We all know someone like this… when the bill comes, all of a sudden they’re acting dumb,” Melber says. “Beyoncé diagnosed that type of person in the classic, Bills, bills, bills by Destiny’s Child.” “‘Can you pay my bills? Can you pay my telephone bills? Do you pay my automobiles? If you did, then maybe we could chill,'” Melber sounded off, adding, “But we can’t Continue reading "‘We Can’t Chill’: Ari Melber Invokes Destiny’s Child to Teach ‘Scrub’ Trump to Pay His Bills"

Ari Melber: Trump’s Not Fulfilling Campaign Promise With Shutdown, He’s Breaking It

MSNBC’s Ari Melber tonight said President Donald Trump getting the shutdown isn’t him fulfilling his campaign promise on the border wall––he’s breaking it. “Donald Trump promised Americans they would never pay for the wall because Mexico would pay,” he said. “And then he failed to get that money from Mexico despite two years when his party actually controlled Washington. So Trump shuts down the government to break his pledge and try to make Americans pay for the wall.” He showed clips of Trump saying multiple times during the campaign that Mexico will pay for the wall, as well as the President’s comments in front of cameras weeks ago saying he would be proud to shut down the government in the name of fighting for border security. The President tweeted this morning that Mexico will be paying for the wall “through the new USMCA Trade Deal”:

Eugene Robinson Knocks Trump’s Negotiation Skills: ‘He Ought to Read This Book, Art of the Deal‘

On Friday night, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson knocked President Donald Trump‘s negotiation skills and habit of going back on “made deals.” Robinson’s remarks came during a conversation with Ari Melber on MSNBC about the stalled negotiation talks. “Nancy Pelosi will be Speaker, will come in with her own agenda and her own priorities and her own sense of what’s important, and it won’t be the same as Donald Trump’s,” Robinson said, stressing that in just days Pelosi and the Democrats will take control of the House. He then wondered why Pelosi would ever take any deal that gets negotiated or anything Mick Mulvaney says as “holy writ” especially “given Donald Trump’s record of simply going back on deals that everybody else thinks are made deals?” He then said this: “There’s no incentive for Democrats to move knowing that Trump is going to pull the Continue reading "Eugene Robinson Knocks Trump’s Negotiation Skills: ‘He Ought to Read This Book, Art of the Deal‘"

Ari Melber Reflects on ‘Strange Bedfellows’ of the Trump Era: Fat Joe and ‘Woke Bill Kristol’

Yes, you’re reading that headline correctly. MSNBC’s Ari Melber took a moment tonight, in his last show of 2018, to reflect on how the Trump era has given way to such strange political bedfellows. Namely, Fat Joe and Bill Kristol. If you’re a regular watcher of The Beat, you already know of this weird, unconventional pairing. And if you don’t watch Melber’s show, then this is probably going to confuse the hell out of you. Melber talked about bringing that unlikely duo together and even how “this was the year that many people began referring to ‘woke Bill Kristol,’ a tribute to the idea that people do evolve and Trumpism, like a lot of challenges, can create strange bedfellows.” Melber even showed footage of Kristol and Fat Joe “cruising the streets of Manhattan” together. “Trump brought them together. His attempts at division have actually united many, many Americans Continue reading "Ari Melber Reflects on ‘Strange Bedfellows’ of the Trump Era: Fat Joe and ‘Woke Bill Kristol’"

Ari Melber: 2018 Proves That the Trump-Era ‘Nothing Matters’ Mantra Isn’t True, Things Still Matter

This post is by Josh Feldman from Mediaite

You’ve probably heard it over and over, probably from that SNL sketch from January: does anything even matter anymore? MSNBC’s Ari Melber tonight argued that everything that’s happened this year disproves that theory. “Facts matter, democracy matters, accountability matters,” Melber argued, before saying the people trying to get away with everything have a vested interest in spreading that narrative. He brought up the example of Trump’s tax returns and how “if people didn’t care about that, Trump wants us to believe they don’t care about anything.” “The evidence this year,” Melber argued, “shows many things actually do matter, especially facts and carefully exposed facts about the federal government. Time and again this year, it was reporting and truths exposed about the government that led to change, including major change.”

Melber proceeded to throw out numerous examples, from reports on Cabinet members that resulted in them being ousted Continue reading "Ari Melber: 2018 Proves That the Trump-Era ‘Nothing Matters’ Mantra Isn’t True, Things Still Matter"

Ari Melber: We’re Headed For Shutdown Because Fox News, Limbaugh, and Coulter ‘Scared’ Trump

MSNBC’s Ari Melber asked an alarming question on his show Friday: are we barreling towards a partial shutdown of the federal government because President Donald Trump is scared of a few conservative pundits? Trump appeared to be willing to shutdown the government to get funding for his wall last week. But then the Senate passed a short-term funding bill that omitted funding for the wall. A backlash from Trump’s loudest supporters in right wing media prompted Trump to reverse course, and declare his refusal to sign a bill that omitted wall funding. “How did we get here?” Ari Melber asked on The Beat Friday, hours before the shutdown deadline. “Donald Trump got scared, he got shook, because of the right wing media talking to him and his base.” Melber aired segments of Fox News hosts, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh blasting the president for caving on the wall, all Continue reading "Ari Melber: We’re Headed For Shutdown Because Fox News, Limbaugh, and Coulter ‘Scared’ Trump"

MSNBC’s Ari Melber: Flynn Turned Mueller’s ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’ into ‘Judicial Smackdown’

MSNBC host Ari Melber broke down how former national security advisor Michael Flynn turned his “get out of jail free card” from special counsel Robert Mueller into a “judicial smackdown” after he pushed a conspiracy that the FBI had set him up to the judge presiding over his sentencing hearing. “Michael Flynn was supposed to walk into federal court today with that rarest of things, a get out of jail free card from Bob Mueller,” Melber began. “Mueller spared Flynn from other potential charges, recommending no jail, but something important happened on the way to the courthouse. Mike Flynn and his lawyers got fresh, they got brash.” He then said Flynn and his team played “with the facts” and ended up “playing themselves” after they used “the Trump playbook to complain the FBI didn’t warn him it was a crime to lie to them.” “Mike Flynn made this legally Continue reading "MSNBC’s Ari Melber: Flynn Turned Mueller’s ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’ into ‘Judicial Smackdown’"

Ari Melber: Flynn Judge ‘Demolished’ Conspiracies from Trump, Fox News

As MSNBC’s Ari Melber broke down the big takeaways from Michael Flynn‘s sentencing hearing today, he also noted that one thing the judge ended up doing was “destroy… a Trumpian-Hannity-Fox News set of conspiracy theories.” In other words, he said, what happened today was “Trump talking points and right-wing media conspiracies demolished.” He brought up one example––that Flynn wasn’t warned that lying to the FBI was a crime––and noted how Flynn basically acknowledged he knew the whole time. Melber proceeded to show clips from President Donald Trump and Fox News. Melber also noted how people were saying that lying wasn’t that serious a crime and that Flynn was a patriot––the latter point he contrasted with the judge telling Flynn today “arguably, you sold your country out.” Watch above, via MSNBC. Florida rejected recount results from the Broward County elections office on Thursday night after officials missed the deadline to submit by just two minutes. MSNBC’s Ari Melber had on Brad Todd, senior advisor to Rick Scott‘s Senate campaign, to react. “Brad, your candidate may ultimately win, and yet he has really sort of embarrassed himself by saying all these things aren’t true, by alleging this process was going to hurt him,” Melber said to Scott on The Beat. “In fact, before these numbers were just canceled out, the Democratic margin was decreasing?” “Wait a minute Ari,” Todd replied. “Every time when you’re a kid and you said the dog ate my homework, the dog really never ate your homework. And they really didn’t have this issue of two minutes ahead of time.” Todd then accused Broward County officials of deliberately missing the deadline because they realized Continue reading "MSNBC’s Ari Melber Grills Rick Scott Adviser on New Voter Fraud Claims: Your Candidate Has ‘Embarrassed Himself’"

Ari Melber Stunned Broward County Recount Won’t Be Used For Being Minutes Late: ‘Can’t Make It Up’

As the results of three Florida midterm races remain undecided, MSNBC’s Ari Melber appeared stunned Thursday night when he learned that for one key county, the vote recount wouldn’t be used. “Broward County now admits they submitted their recount numbers two minutes late and thus, under the rules, the results apparently will not count,” he said. “I want to tell you what that means. The entire developments, the drama, the protests, the counting, everything that’s been going on behind me the last few days, according to this breaking news tonight, that would be for nothing, because the state is going to use the original vote totals while this manual recount proceeds under state law.”
The recount will determine the outcome of the state’s U.S. Senate race along with its next governor and agriculture commissioner. For Broward, the missed opportunity to have the recount used it especially significant given Continue reading "Ari Melber Stunned Broward County Recount Won’t Be Used For Being Minutes Late: ‘Can’t Make It Up’"
