Brit Hume Suggests Trump is Too Ignorant to Have Made Joke About Native American Genocide

One weird thing happened over the weekend that has already faded into the news cycle: President Donald Trump apparently made a joke about Native American genocide. People were outraged, as is tradition, and Fox News analyst Brit Hume dismissed the outrage as an overreaction, as is tradition. In a tweet, Hume suggested Trump couldn’t have been making a joke about genocide, simply because he’s too ignorant of history to understand the joke he made.

Brit Hume: Trump Has Not Been a Unifying President, But He Gave a Unifying SOTU Address

Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume had high praise for President Trump‘s State of the Union address on Thursday, lauding the unifying nature and effectiveness he saw in both the speech and delivery. He suggested that unlike many SOTUs, this one might leave a lasting impression. “It was, to me, quite a striking speech,” said Hume to begin his review. “I’ve never been of the view that the State of the Union addresses last in the public consciousness for very long, but people may remember this one.” he said. “I think it was the most effective use of the guests in the gallery that I have ever seen, especially toward the end when it became so emotional, and was kind of a unifying moment, because these were things that were being cheered and applauded that really no one could be against.” “The speech looked to me as if Continue reading "Brit Hume: Trump Has Not Been a Unifying President, But He Gave a Unifying SOTU Address"

Brit Hume, Soledad O’Brien Clash Over Trump’s Visit to Troops: ‘Try Not to be Such an A**hole in 2019’

Fox News’ Brit Hume and former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien had at it on Wednesday night as they debated whether President Trump only went abroad to visit members of the U.S. military because of public pressure to do so. The commotion began after Hume took shots at Alyssa Milano and others who criticized Trump for supposedly being the first president since 2002 to not visit American forces during the Christmas season. These criticisms came before it was publicly confirmed that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were visiting troops in Iraq. O’Brien saw Hume’s tweet, and she responded by suggesting Trump might’ve gone Continue reading "Brit Hume, Soledad O’Brien Clash Over Trump’s Visit to Troops: ‘Try Not to be Such an A**hole in 2019’"

Fox News Analyst Brit Hume: Trump’s ‘Poor Character’ Might ‘Cripple’ His Presidency

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume said Tuesday that President Donald Trump‘s “poor character” might “cripple” his presidency. Hume’s warning, issued on Twitter, was in response to a Los Angeles Times op-ed by conservative writer Jonah Goldberg, who argued the “Trump presidency will end poorly because character is destiny.” In the piece, Goldberg bats away arguments from Trump supporters that the president is in fact a “man of good character”:
This latter group rushes to rebut the claim, citing banal or debatable propositions: He loves his children! He’s “loyal to a fault!” He’s authentic! Never mind that many bad men love their children, that loyalty to people or causes unworthy of loyalty is not admirable, and that authentic caddishness is not admirable. Never mind, too, that he is not remotely loyal, to his wives or the people who work for him.
Goldberg further argues that Continue reading "Fox News Analyst Brit Hume: Trump’s ‘Poor Character’ Might ‘Cripple’ His Presidency"

Brit Hume: Trump is ‘In the Process of Blowing Up the Conservative Part’ of His Base

Fox News’ commentator Brit Hume is among the most highly respected conservative thought leaders and his support of President Donald Trump, though occasionally tepid, has been seen as a signal to many establishment Republicans that it’s okay to support the non-traditional Republican administration. But things appear to be shifting in the right-of-center political landscape, especially in light of Trump’s abrupt withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria and interestingly-informed claim that “ISIS is defeated” in the war-ravaged nation. In the eyes of many, this was a geopolitical misstep, best evidenced by the sudden resignation in protest by Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis. Over the weekend, Hume tweeted that, even though President Trump is unfairly criticized, last week’s move in Syria was a big deal:

Brit Hume: If GOP Loses FL Gov Race, The Defeat Could Be ‘Laid at the Feet of Donald Trump’

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume made the case Tuesday night that a Republican defeat in the Florida governor race could be blamed on President Donald Trump. In a race too close to call, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is up by the slimmest of margins against Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum (D). And since DeSantis fully embraced Trumpism, Hume insisted the the president could be responsible for the congressman’s defeat. “It’s obviously important because it has presidential implications as far as it’s such a pivotal state. This is a race where if there’s one race if the if the Republicans lose could be laid at the feet of Donald Trump,” Hume told the panel. “Republicans had a very strong candidate Adam Putnam, who is in the primary against DeSantis… He was a member of the House for a number of years and indeed a member of the leadership considered Continue reading "Brit Hume: If GOP Loses FL Gov Race, The Defeat Could Be ‘Laid at the Feet of Donald Trump’"

Brit Hume: Trump Has Made Midterms About Himself More Than Any Other President

Veteran TV journalist and Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume said President Donald Trump has made a midterm election more about himself this year than any other president in recent memory. After anchor Bret Baier noted that “President Trump is on this ballot” tonight, meaning Americans are deciding whether or not to approve of his record so-far, Hume enthusiastically agreed. “No president in my memory, maybe ever, has ever made himself as much the center of a midterm election as this president has,” he said. “I remember covering Clinton in ’94 when he campaigned hard. Barack Obama did the same thing in 2010. To no avail in both cases as it turned out, their parties lost control of the House in those years,” Hume continued. “But this president has done more and been — [the midterm] has been more about him than I can ever remember.” He then noted Continue reading "Brit Hume: Trump Has Made Midterms About Himself More Than Any Other President"

Brit Hume Clashes with Marie Harf Over Investigating Anonymous Kavanaugh Claims: ‘Are You Serious?!?’

Fox News political analyst Brit Hume had a fiery exchange with Fox News contributor Marie Harf ahead of the hearing of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his first accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. During a panel discussion, anchor Bret Baier noted the sensitivity surrounding sexual assault allegations, citing a statistic that two out of three victims don’t come forward, but also mentioned the anonymous letter received by Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and the media treated it “like another legitimate accuser.” Harf pointed to “all of the outstanding questions” there are about the allegations that “have not been investigated by the committee or the FBI.” That didn’t sit well with Hume. “So any kind of anonymous, unspecific allegation can be thrown into the mix here and warrants an investigation. Are you serious?!?” Hume reacted. “But Brit, if you are Brett Kavanaugh and you claim and you Continue reading "Brit Hume Clashes with Marie Harf Over Investigating Anonymous Kavanaugh Claims: ‘Are You Serious?!?’"

Brit Hume Pushes Back After Tucker Carlson Says There Are American Leaders ‘Who Hate the Country’

As Fox News’ Tucker Carlson talked tonight about threats America faces 17 years after the 9/11 terror attack, he said the country should be concerned about threats from within. He slammed Senator Angus King for his comments drawing a comparison between 9/11 and Russian cyberattacks, saying, “Only a person completely cut off from reality, someone who lives full-time in a tiny airless a world of fellow dumb people could utter those words without turning red with shame.” Carlson went on to say this:
“It is worth thinking about what the real threats to America are after 17 years. 17 years after the Towers fell. Russia’s not even in the top ten, Islamic extremism does seem mildly less threatening for the first time in a long time, let’s hope that remains true. But the real threats we face today may be from within. Leaders who hate the country they govern Continue reading "Brit Hume Pushes Back After Tucker Carlson Says There Are American Leaders ‘Who Hate the Country’"

Tucker Carlson: Democrats Have a Right to Be ‘Mad About Merrick Garland’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson tonight, during a segment on Brett Kavanaugh‘s hearing today, said he believes that Democrats do have a right to be frustrated about the treatment of Merrick Garland after he was nominated by former President Barack Obama. Carlson spoke with Brit Hume about the liberal reactions to Kavanaugh and how, as Hume put it, “the left has been much more dependent over the decades on the courts to achieve policy goals it could not achieve through legislation.” He said the “resistance” is just pure politics, and then Carlson brought up Garland: “They’re mad about Merrick Garland and honestly I think they have a right to be mad about Mary Garland, actually. I’m probably the only person who thinks that, but I do think that.” He went on to say the Democrats aren’t making arguments against Kavanaugh concerning “his ideas or his fitness for the Continue reading "Tucker Carlson: Democrats Have a Right to Be ‘Mad About Merrick Garland’"

Brit Hume: ‘Thank God’ For White House Officials Who Steal Documents Off Trump’s Desk

In light of the explosive developments from Bob Woodward‘s upcoming book on President Donald Trump, Brit Hume came up with an… interesting take: the president’s critics should be pleased his staffers restrain him. The Fox News senior political analyst spoke to Bret Baier today about the flurry of information emerging from Fear: Trump in the White House. These revelations range from high-level White House staffers bashing the president (John Kelly on Trump: “He’s an idiot”) to the president bashing his own staffers (Trump on Jeff Sessions: “Mentally retarded”) to officials stealing documents off of Trump’s desk to stop him from doing things. As shocking as that all is, Hume’s takeaway was that the book proves Never Trumpers wrong. He told Baier:
“There is an account in there of a document he’s about to sign, they came and took it off his desk. What does that say to the people Continue reading "Brit Hume: ‘Thank God’ For White House Officials Who Steal Documents Off Trump’s Desk"

Judge Napolitano Zings Dems for ‘Bitterness’ in Kavanaugh Hearings: Surprising ‘Lack of Civility’

On Fox News, following the first session of today’s first hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, FNC’s Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, Dana Perino, and Andrew Napolitano discussed, among other things, the conduct of the hearing. Judge Napolitano in particular was put off by what he called the “acerbic” tone of Democrats. “I was quite surprised at the acerbic tone and the lack of civility that the Democrats fomented right from the start this morning,” he said. In rather an understatement, he added that Democrats “are apparently still brooding over the manner in which judge Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee to replace the late justice Scalia was treated by the Republican Senate two years ago.” “They have obviously concluded that they lack the votes to defeat the Kavanaugh nomination,” said Napolitano. “So, if you can’t interfere with a nomination, let’s interfere with the Continue reading "Judge Napolitano Zings Dems for ‘Bitterness’ in Kavanaugh Hearings: Surprising ‘Lack of Civility’"

Fox News’ Brit Hume Slams Donald Trump’s Tweet of ‘Sympathies’ for McCain Family

After Senator John McCain passed away on Saturday, President Donald Trump sent a tweet with his sympathies to the McCain family. It was not a comprehensive statement, as some politicians offered, and Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume took note. Hume is pointing out that, even in the Senator’s death, Trump can’t bring himself to say “a kind word” for the man. Merely the rote political condolences for the family members. Whether that is due to Trump’s own feelings or another example of pandering to his base is hard to say. For context, recall that Trump said McCain was not a war hero, mocked him for being a POW, and Trump’s supporters and even staff have continued to mock the late Senator during his illness. Even so, Trump supporters have been irrationally offended that Continue reading "Fox News’ Brit Hume Slams Donald Trump’s Tweet of ‘Sympathies’ for McCain Family"

Fox News’ Brit Hume Calls Trump Comparing Mueller Probe to McCarthyism ‘Ridiculous’

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume dubbed President Donald Trump’s most recent Twitter attack on Special Counsel Robert Mueller “ridiculous.” Earlier today, Trump kvetched: “Study the late Joseph McCarthy, because we are now in period with Mueller and his gang that make Joseph McCarthy look like a baby! Rigged Witch Hunt!” McCarthy led a Cold War era hunt for Communists before a special Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee found his claims about government infiltration of Communists was a hoax. Trump’s tweet referencing McCarthy’s fraud was also part of a lengthy rant in which the president said all of this, railing against the New York Times, Mueller and the Russian probe:

Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’

On Fox News Sunday, conservative columnist and commentator Brit Hume of Fox News told host Bret Baier that President Trump‘s claim about the FISA warrant are just plain incorrect. He says even if some parts were “improper”, the overall FISA warrant was not illegal. Hume was on with Fox hosts Marie Harf, and Guy Benson, as the group discussed the document release on Saturday regarding the Carter Page FISA warrants. President Trump tweeted on Sunday that the documents showed the FISA warrant was “illegal” but Hume flat disagreed. “Not illegal as far as I can tell. It was approved by the judge, which is the process it’s supposed to go through,” Hume said matter-of-factly. “I mean I think it may well have been improper and I think that as Guy suggests and as the document reveals, there’s stuff in that FISA warrant application that has no Continue reading "Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’"

Trump’s North Korea Summit Once Again Pits Conservatives Against Trumpists in Media

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) clapped back at President Donald Trump this morning on Twitter. It was a dish served cold, a hard swipe back at, oh, two years of bad blood, and a smooth one at that. This is an accurate assessment of Kim. It is also, however, a callback to the campaign and questions about Trump’s own qualifications for office. But it was more than just a wry, wicked burn. It was also one more battle in the seemingly endless war between conservatives (referred to by Trumpists as “NeverTrump”) and Continue reading "Trump’s North Korea Summit Once Again Pits Conservatives Against Trumpists in Media"

Fox News’ Brit Hume: Trump’s Friendly Behavior Towards ‘Thug’ Kim Jong Un is ‘Disconcerting’

Fox News political analyst Brit Hume had a more pessimistic take of President Trump‘s ongoing summit with North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un. So far, things have been very cordial between the two leaders from their handshake to their bilateral meeting. However, Hume took exception to Trump saying that “it’s an honor” to be engaging with the dictator and is banking on the savviness of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who had previously met with the dictator while still serving as the CIA Director. “Disconcerting to say the least to see POTUS shaking hands with the thug Kim Continue reading "Fox News’ Brit Hume: Trump’s Friendly Behavior Towards ‘Thug’ Kim Jong Un is ‘Disconcerting’"

Fmr FBI Agent Rips Brit Hume Over McCabe Firing: ‘As Usual’ He ‘Has Zero Idea What He’s Talking About’

Fox News’s Brit Hume shot back at conservative commentator Max Boot on Saturday for suggesting the firing of deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe was an effort to undermine the agency and obstruct justice. Hume mocked Boot’s argument as “all part of a Trump conspiracy”: Former FBI agent Asha Rangappa, now a CNN analyst, responded to Hume in a lengthy Twitter thread that kicked off with the disclaimer, “As usual, [Brit Hume] has zero idea what he’s talking about”:

CNN Reporter Rips Brit Hume For His Network’s False Story: ‘Is Fox Going to Issue a Correction’?

After Brit Hume tweeted a Federalist article slamming the media for alleged anti-Trump administration bias, CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy responded by asking if the Fox News political analyst’s network ever plans to correct their false reporting in a recent article on the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Hume posted a piece written by Federalist editor Mollie Hemmingway titled, “How The Media Buried Two Huge FBI Stories Yesterday,” which claimed the media intentionally refused to cover news regarding the Russia investigation as it showed President Donald Trump in a positive light. The veteran conservative newsman said the article explains how Hemingway “goes looking for MSM journalists interested in pursuing the FBI misconduct angle in the HRC & DJT cases, finds none.” This led Darcy to tweet, “Brit, is Fox going to issue a correction to its story that incorrectly, per CNN & WSJ, suggested the texts were related to the Clinton Continue reading "CNN Reporter Rips Brit Hume For His Network’s False Story: ‘Is Fox Going to Issue a Correction’?"

Brit Hume: Whether Moore Wins or Loses, ‘Republicans Really Have No Way to Win’ Tonight

Fox News’ Brit Hume told Tucker Carlson tonight that the Alabama race is a little like “two missiles headed toward the Republicans in the U.S. Senate” and wondering “which one is gonna hit them.” If Moore loses, they lose a Senate seat and that’s a setback. If Moore wins, however, “they then probably have a political albatross around their neck.” As Hume put it, “This looks like a night in which the Republicans really have no way to win.” Carlson wondered whether the election would be this close if not for Doug Jones‘ position on abortion. Hume said “it certainly is a problem for him.” Watch above, via Fox News. [image via screengrab] — — Follow Josh Feldman on Twitter: @feldmaniac
