DNI Chief Warns: Russia Will Target 2018 Midterms With ‘Propaganda, Social Media, False Flag Personas’

Dan Coats warned the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that Russia believes it successfully meddled with American political processes in the past, and they are bound to try it again in the future. The Director of National Intelligence was among the witnesses who appeared for today’s hearing on the worldwide threats that require America’s immediate attention. Coats testified that Vladimir Putin is very likely to use authoritarian practices to expand Russia’s global influence, and that includes more cyber activities to undermine and stir up chaos in the United States. “We expect Russia to continue using propaganda, social media, false flag personas, sympathetic Continue reading "DNI Chief Warns: Russia Will Target 2018 Midterms With ‘Propaganda, Social Media, False Flag Personas’"

‘Hundreds’ of Unmasking Requests Reportedly Made By Single Obama Admin Official in 2016

A top official in the previous administration made ‘hundreds of unmasking requests’ in the final year of President Obama‘s presidency. In a letter obtained by Fox News. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) wrote to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats the following:
“[T]his Committee has learned that one official, whose position has no apparent intelligence-related function, made hundreds of unmasking requests during the final year of the Obama Administration.”
The congressman also mentioned that only one request “offered a justification.” While his letter to Director Coats does not reveal the individual who made these unmasking requests, the description of that individual of not having an “apparent intelligence-related function” indicates that it could be former UN Ambassador Samantha Power, who along with former CIA Director John Brennan and former National Security Advisor Susan Rice were Continue reading "‘Hundreds’ of Unmasking Requests Reportedly Made By Single Obama Admin Official in 2016"

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats Says Intel Agencies Are in Agreement on Russian Meddling

At the Aspen Security Forum yesterday, NBC News’ Lester Holt asked Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats if there is “any dissent within the intelligence community… on the question of whether the Russians interfered with the American election.” Coats said there is “no dissent,” noting that there are agencies that “don’t focus on that particular issue,” but the agencies that do are in agreement. He also added, “Is anybody shocked that the Russians are trying to influence how we think?… They are trying to undermine Western democracy.” Earlier this week CIA Director Mike Pompeo said “of course” Russia meddled in the election “and in the last one and the one before that.” Watch above, via NBC News. ‘I’ll Be Damned!’: Trey Gowdy is Furious That Intel Chief Dan Coats’ House Testimony Leaked

Several stories have emerged with reported details of the testimony given by Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats in a closed-door session before House investigators. And Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is furious about it. Appearing on Outfront Thursday, Gowdy — who sits on the House Intelligence Committee — sounded irate about the leaked testimony so soon after he and his Democratic counterpart on the committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) promised Coats that what he said in the session would not be made public.
About eight hours ago, Adam Schiff and I looked Dan Coats in the eyes and we assured him that there would be no selective leaking of his testimony to us. And I’ll be damned if eight hours later, there aren’t three different leaks with what he told us. So if anyone is questioning why Congressional investigations aren’t taken seriously, and are viewed as political exercises, you need Continue reading "‘I’ll Be Damned!’: Trey Gowdy is Furious That Intel Chief Dan Coats’ House Testimony Leaked"

Intel Chief Dan Coats Reportedly Told House Investigators Trump Seemed ‘Obsessed’ With Russia

While speaking with House investigators today, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats explained that President Donald Trump appeared to be obsessed with the Russia investigation. He also revealed that the president had asked him numerous times to publicly comment on the probe and say that there was no evidence of collusion between Russia and Trump associates, according to NBC News. This report comes in the wake of other reports that both Coats and NSA Director Mike Rogers told investigators for the Senate and Special Counsel Robert Mueller that the president wanted both of them to go out and tell the public that there wasn’t any collusion. Both men were more forthcoming in closed settings than this month’s open hearing before the Senate, when they refused to answer questions about their conversations with the president regarding the Russia probe. Coats and Rogers confirming that Trump attempted to get them to knock Continue reading "Intel Chief Dan Coats Reportedly Told House Investigators Trump Seemed ‘Obsessed’ With Russia"

McCain Describes Dan Coats’ Refusal to Discuss WaPo Story in Public Hearing as ‘Orwellian’

Towards the end of today’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing with a number of intelligence agency chiefs, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) seemed to echo the frustration that many of his Senate colleagues had already expressed regarding the intel chiefs’ refusal to answer questions. While questioning Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, McCain referenced a recent article in the Washington Post that detailed how Coats had told associates that President Donald Trump had asked him to intervene in the FBI’s Russia probe. Acknowledging that Coats had said he could only discuss what had already been published in a closed hearing, the Arizona lawmaker invoked George Orwell to express what this all appeared to him. “You know, it just shows what kind of an Orwellian Continue reading "McCain Describes Dan Coats’ Refusal to Discuss WaPo Story in Public Hearing as ‘Orwellian’"
