President Donald Trump, on Thursday, called for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) to receive the Medal of Honor. During a sprawling rant in a phone interview with Fox & Friends, the president lauded the California Congressman for his efforts investigating former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok, and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page. “People like Devin Nunes, he should get — if this all turns out like everyone thinks it will, Devin Nunes should get the Medal of Honor,” Trump said. “He is really — what he’s gone through, and his bravery. He should get a very important medal.” Trump later clarified his comments, saying he’d call for Nunes to be given the Medal of Freedom instead — as it is an honor reserved for civilians. Devin Nunes Reportedly Went to London to Dig Up Dirt on Trump Dossier Author Christopher Steele

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, took a trip to London earlier this month. His reported aim? Digging up dirt on Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence author who wrote the dossier probing President Donald Trump‘s connection to Russia. According to the Atlantic, Nunes flew to the U.K. in search of information of Steele’s service record, and to examine Steele’s ties to U.S. Justice Department official Bruce Ohr — who’s drawn Trump’s ire of late for his contact with Steele. To that end, Nunes — per the Atlantic‘s report — sought meetings with the heads of MI5, MI6, and the Government Communications Headquarters. But he came up mostly empty. The Atlantic reports, through an unnamed source, that British officials were hesitant to meet with Nunes — believing that he was “trying to stir up a controversy.” Ohr is set Continue reading "Devin Nunes Reportedly Went to London to Dig Up Dirt on Trump Dossier Author Christopher Steele"

Joe Scarborough Tears Devin Nunes, House Freedom Caucus: They’re Protecting Putin, Covering Up Russia’s Crimes

Joe Scarborough blasted Devin Nunes on Thursday over the congressman’s newly-revealed statements about doing everything he can to protect President Trump from the ongoing investigations into Russia. The conversations on Morning Joe revolved around the tapes Rachel Maddow obtained last night with audio of Nunes telling fellow Republicans “we’re the only ones” who can save Trump from Robert Mueller. As Kasie Hunt noted how the tape raises questions about whether the GOP as a whole will protect Trump “at all costs,” Scarborough compared the House Intelligence Committee chairman and members of the House Freedom Caucus to the “useful idiots” who would apologize for America during the Cold War.
“We Republicans excoriated them, called them useful idiots for always apologizing for the Russians and always being part of the blame America first crowd. Well, when you look at what leaders of the Freedom Caucus are doing, when you look at what Continue reading "Joe Scarborough Tears Devin Nunes, House Freedom Caucus: They’re Protecting Putin, Covering Up Russia’s Crimes"

Maddow Obtains Audio of Nunes Warning of Russia Probe: ‘If Mueller Won’t Clear’ Trump, ‘We’re The Only Ones’

On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow released audio of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) speaking at a Republican fundraiser in what he believed was outside the earshot of the public and the press. The fundraiser was for House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers who just narrowly won her primary bid. During the talk with his fellow Republicans, Nunes said this: “So therein lies, so it’s like your classic catch-22 situation, where we were at a — this puts us in such a tough spot. If Sessions won’t un-recuse and Mueller won’t clear the president, we’re the only ones — which is really the danger. That’s why I keep, and thank you for saying it by the way, I mean we have to keep all these seats. We do not keep the majority, all of this goes away.” Responding to Nunes’ remarks, Maddow commented on what the GOP — and specifically Nunes — is Continue reading "Maddow Obtains Audio of Nunes Warning of Russia Probe: ‘If Mueller Won’t Clear’ Trump, ‘We’re The Only Ones’"

GOP Rep. Devin Nunes in Leaked Audio Says Trump Tweets Make Him ‘Cringe’

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said at a private fundraiser that President Donald Trump‘s tweets sometimes make him cringe, the audio of which was obtained by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. Nunes, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and a staunch Trump supporter (or stooge, depending on which team you bat for), made the comments at a fundraiser last week for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). While speaking about Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe at the dinner, Nunes said, “they know it’s ridiculous to go after the President for obstruction of justice.” He then referenced reports that Mueller’s team is looking at Trump’s tweets for possible obstruction. “But if they tell a lie often enough and they put it out there and they say, ‘Oh, we’re looking at the tweets,’ and you know you’ve got a mixed bag on the tweets, right?” Nunes said. “Like sometimes you love the Continue reading "GOP Rep. Devin Nunes Gifted With Bright, Yellow Sneakers to Help Him Run Away from Tough Questions

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) just got some sweet new kicks in case he ever feels like running away from reporters who might ask him difficult questions. For the last few months, Nunes has been mocked and ridiculed by the Swamp Accountability Project, an organization devoted to challenging Donald Trump and other “ethically-challenged politicians” who embody the swamp that the president promised to drain. Republican consultant Liz Mair is a spokeswoman for the group, and she recently pulled a prank on Nunes for ducking questions about the House Intelligence Committee’s Russia investigation by leaving in the middle of a Rules Committee hearing. Mair filmed a video of herself delivering some brand new sneakers to Nunes’ office so he can flee from tough situations in style and comfort. “He hasn’t been very courageous about taking questions, answering questions,” Mair said. “So we feel these are appropriate for Devin Nunes, and they’ll Continue reading "Devin Nunes Gifted With Bright, Yellow Sneakers to Help Him Run Away from Tough Questions"

Devin Nunes Responds to Trey Gowdy Dismissing ‘SpyGate’ and Defending the FBI

Congressman Devin Nunes appeared on Fox News this morning to speak with Maria Bartiromo, and right off the bat she asked him about comments from his colleague Trey Gowdy. Gowdy went on Fox last week and not only dismissed President Trump‘s “SpyGate” claim, but he defended the FBI’s actions and said based on everything he knows they acted appropriately and in a way Trump himself would have wanted. Nunes was not overly critical of Gowdy this morning, but he emphasized a few times this is what Gowdy “believes” based on what he’s seen. “Mr. Gowdy loves the FBI and the Department of Justice,” Nunes told Bartiromo. “I think all Americans want a good Department of Justice and FBI doing their job. And if they’re targeting Russians or Chinese or what have you, that’s what we expect them to do. However, the challenge we have in this is that Continue reading "Devin Nunes Responds to Trey Gowdy Dismissing ‘SpyGate’ and Defending the FBI"

Chuck Schumer: House Republicans Secretly Tell Me Devin Nunes is ‘Off the Deep End’

Taking the Senate floor in a fiery speech Tuesday morning, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said members of Rep. Devin Nunes‘s (R-CA) own party “think he’s off the deep end.” The remark came during a statement about President Donald Trump‘s Sunday demand that the Department of Justice launch an investigation into whether a spy infiltrated his election campaign, a move which would counter Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s Russia probe. Schumer said Trump’s request broke “longstanding and critical norms against political interference in law enforcement matters.” On Monday, the president met with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, reaching an agreement with Rosenstein for the counter-investigation to be launched.  Flabbergasted by the meeting, Schumer called it “amazing.” “The president and his staff should not be involved in reviewing or dissemination of sensitive investigatory information involving any open investigation, let Continue reading "Chuck Schumer: House Republicans Secretly Tell Me Devin Nunes is ‘Off the Deep End’"

Trump Calls on Justice Department to Release Mueller Probe Documents: ‘Drain the Swamp!’

This post is by Aidan McLaughlin from Mediaite

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to tout his latest theory that the “FBI or DOJ was infiltrating” his campaign during the 2016 election in order to sabotage it and allow for a Hillary Clinton victory. This latest theory is based on a New York Times report that revealed the FBI launched an incredibly secretive investigation into the Trump campaign in 2016 and used an informant to glean info from four campaign affiliates: Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and George Papadopoulos. That report was seized on by the Russia investigation’s chief critics in the media who argued it was evidence the FBI spied on the Trump campaign with the malicious intent of setting then-candidate Trump up and bringing him down (they clearly did not do a very good job of it, but that’s apparently beside the point). Trump himself has enjoyed this narrative, tweeting about it often, Continue reading "Trump Calls on Justice Department to Release Mueller Probe Documents: ‘Drain the Swamp!’"

Officials Reportedly Warned White House Turning Over Info Requested by Nunes Could Endanger an Intel Source

Congressman Devin Nunes has been very vocal decrying the DOJ for not handing over documents, and a new report says there’s a reason the DOJ has not handed them over yet. Per The Washington Post
Last Wednesday, senior FBI and national intelligence officials relayed an urgent message to the White House: Information being sought by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes could endanger a top-secret intelligence source… For the intelligence agencies, Nunes’s request threatened to cross a red line of compromising sources and methods of U.S. intelligence-gathering, according to people familiar with their views. Intelligence officials fear that providing even a redacted version of the information Nunes seeks could expose that person and damage relationships with other countries that serve as U.S. intelligence partners.
There are several important points of note here, including the revelation that info from that source “had been provided to the Mueller investigation.” Continue reading "Officials Reportedly Warned White House Turning Over Info Requested by Nunes Could Endanger an Intel Source"

Hannity Goes On a Tear Against Sessions: ‘Are You Part of the Swamp?’

Sean Hannity tonight went off on Attorney General Jeff Sessions over Justice Department “stonewalling.” Republican frustrations with the DOJ have reached a boiling point, with plans to impeach Rod Rosenstein in the works and Devin Nunes threatening to hold AG Jeff Sessions in contempt of Congress for not handing over documents connected to the Russia case. Nunes appeared with Hannity tonight, but before the interview, Hannity expressed his outrage at documents being “slow-walked and withheld, or massively redacted.” Sessions responded to Nunes today by saying that the request is “not grantable.” Hannity sent a direct message to Sessions in response:
“Mr. Attorney General, I say this with all respect: where is your urgency? You need to do your job. This has gone on way too long! These are legitimate, important requests. You are not impervious, nor the DOJ impervious, to the rule of law and our federal Continue reading "Hannity Goes On a Tear Against Sessions: ‘Are You Part of the Swamp?’"

Laura Ingraham Confronts Devin Nunes About Not Reading Docs He Requested: ‘How Serious Are You?’

On Friday night, Laura Ingraham spoke with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) about, among many things, the report that Nunes did not read the documents he requested. While discussing the un-redacted findings of former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony to Congress that the FBI saw no “physical indication of deception” on the part of Gen. Michael Flynn and that they “saw nothing that indicated to them that he knew he was lying to them,” Nunes complained to Ingraham that the DOJ and the FBI have “so many more documents” that still need to be handed over to his committee that they “needed yesterday.” However, according to a report from CNN, Nunes “opted not to read” the unopened folder of documents that was presented to him and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) at the Department of Justice. Ingraham confronted him about the report. “Now you’re getting slammed in Continue reading "Laura Ingraham Confronts Devin Nunes About Not Reading Docs He Requested: ‘How Serious Are You?’"

CNN: Devin Nunes Did Not Read Documents He Requested

Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, did not read documents he requested, according to a new report from CNN. The report today says that Nunes had been demanding “a fully uncensored version of a highly sensitive document from the Justice Department explaining how the Russia investigation began in 2016,” but when he did receive it…
Facing the growing pressure, and outrage from President Donald Trump, Rosenstein finally relented in early April — and granted Nunes and Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina access to the document with only minimal redactions to protect the name of a foreign country and agent, along with all members of the House Intelligence Committee. But when the pair arrived at the Justice Continue reading "CNN: Devin Nunes Did Not Read Documents He Requested"

Twitter Goes Nuts After House GOP Ends Russia Probe: History Won’t ‘Be Kind to Devin Nunes’

This afternoon, the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee announced that they are done with interviews in the committee’s Russia probe and the majority have reached a conclusion. The GOP members’ report will state that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russians when it came to US election meddling. It will also diverge from the intelligence community’s consensus that Russian President Vladimir Putin preferred Donald Trump in the 2016 election. A one-page summary of the upcoming report was released: Folks on Twitter had a lot to say about the probe being shut down, with much of it concentrating on the partisan nature of the decision:

Devin Nunes Twitter-Trolls by Asking ‘Russian Bots’ to Help Make Federalist Piece Go Viral

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) took to Twitter to offer up a strange bit of mockery that seems to suggest he does not believe in the existence of Russian social media bots. It all started when Nunes, fresh off of his infamous world-shattering memo, urged his Twitter followers to tweet out a story published by The Federalist, which strikes down the notion of Russian bots as a conspiracy theory peddled by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-MA.) “If you are a Russian Bot, please make this go viral,” he joked. “If you’re not a Russian Bot, you will become one if you retweet.” Of course, Continue reading "Devin Nunes Twitter-Trolls by Asking ‘Russian Bots’ to Help Make Federalist Piece Go Viral"

CNN’s Phil Mudd: ‘One of the Biggest Losers’ Today Is Devin Nunes

CNN’s Phil Mudd today called out Devin Nunes during a discussion on the indictments against Russians issued today over election meddling. He first pushed back on President Trump‘s touting of “no collusion,” asking, “Did the President actually read this?” He noted how the indictments show a very clear anti-Trump, pro-Clinton sentiment before the election, and said the idea this lets Trump off the hook makes no sense. As the panel discussion continued, David Chalian said the indictments only bolster the basis of this case and it makes Trump’s attempt to “undermine it” harder. Mudd weighed in next and named Nunes in particular:
“One of the biggest losers in this case, in my judgment, is Devin Nunes. The effort on the House committee to undermine this investigation in light of what is not only an attack on an election––one of the most striking parts of this awesome document… is Continue reading "CNN’s Phil Mudd: ‘One of the Biggest Losers’ Today Is Devin Nunes"

Democratic Rep.: Nunes Has ‘Helped the White House Obstruct’

A Democratic congressman on MSNBC tonight charged that Devin Nunes is helping the White House engage in obstruction. “I think that the chairman has helped the White House obstruct this case,” he directly told Ari Melber. “Now, whether that’s part of a legal entanglement, that’s a different story.” Melber pressed him more specifically on what he means, and Quigley said, “There are members of Congress in their words and deeds––I don’t know if it’s a legal issue––but clearly they’re helping him obstruct the investigation.” And just before that, he directly told Melber, “I think there are elements of what Mr. Nunes did in working in conjunction on the memo, for example, that bring them into the realm of obstruction of justice. House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes has become one of the more divisive and controversial figures in Washington in the wake of the release of the four-page memo that purports to show FISA abuses by the FBI and DOJ in the course of the Russia probe. Following the document’s public release, Nunes has lashed out at his Democratic colleagues in his media appearances, which have largely been limited to Fox News. This latest news won’t make Nunes any less polarizing, that’s for sure. According to Politico, Nunes has been using funds from his congressional campaign to pay for a hyperpartisan alternative news site. The site, named The California Republican, posts mostly aggregated article with conservative-leaning headlines. Recently, on the site’s Facebook page, the site posted pro-Nunes headline surrounding #ReleaseTheMemo. Other stories have taken shots at Democratic lawmakers such as outspoken Trump critic Rep. Ted Lieu. Lieu, like Nunes, hails Continue reading "Wait, What?! House Intel Chairman Devin Nunes Has His Own Partisan News Site"
