Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano said the FBI has been caught in a plan to undermine President Donald Trump, evidenced by the way they’ve conducted investigations against him. Napolitano joined Fox & Friends on Tuesday to talk about how FISA warrants factored into the FBI’s investigations into Trump’s 2016 campaign. As they talked about Trump’s claim that the FBI has abused constitutional standards by using FISA applications to obtain search warrants, Napolitano explained that the standards were significantly reduced from what the FBI would’ve required if they pursued a search warrant under normal circumstances.
“When the FBI can’t get the more difficult one, they get the easy one, and that has corrupted them. That has enabled them to gather evidence by unconstitutional means, that’s what they did to the president…It is obvious that there was an agenda on the part of people in the FBI to either Continue reading "Napolitano: It’s ‘Obvious’ FBI Had an ‘Agenda’ to Make Trump ‘Stumble to Prevent Him from Entering Office’"

House Intelligence Committee ranking Democrat Adam Schiff (CA) says Donald Trump‘s new declassification order crosses the line as a “clear abuse of power.” The White House announced on Monday night that the president is ordering the declassification of numerous sensitive documents pertaining to the Russia investigations. These documents to be released include the Carter Page FISA application, FBI reports on Bruce Ohr, and text messages from James Comey, Peter Strzok and other Trump enemies within the intelligence community. Schiff is condemning the move as a self-interested political ploy in order to “advance a false narrative” about the probe.
“President Trump, in a clear abuse of power, has decided to intervene in a pending law enforcement investigation by ordering the selective release Continue reading "Adam Schiff Tears Into Trump For Ordering FISA Docs Declassified: This President Cares ‘Nothing About the Country’"

NBC Reporter: Could Be ‘Huge Repercussions’ If Trump’s Declassifying Docs Over Objections of Intel Agencies

President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification of FISA documents and other materials related to the Russia probe. NBC News intelligence and national security reporter Ken Dilanian said today this is “not normal.” “I’ve never before seen a statement from the White House ordering the declassification of something that the intelligence agencies were not ready to declassify,” he told Steve Kornacki on MTP Daily. “And that’s gonna have huge repercussions, I think.” Dilanian noted the concern intel agencies may have about the release of sources and methods. And while Trump can “declassify anything he wants,” doing this “potentially over the objection of his own agencies is incredible.” He also pointed to how the Carter Page FISA application––one of the key documents that Trump ordered declassified––has been the subject of much discussion on Fox News “to show that this investigation is illegitimate.” Watch above, via MSNBC. The White House announced in a statement early tonight that President Donald Trump is ordering the declassification of documents following requests from members of Congress. The statement from Sarah Sanders confirms that Trump is ordering the declassification of the Carter Page FISA application, FBI reports of all Bruce Ohr interviews “prepared in connection with the Russia investigation,” and all FBI reports of interviews prepped “in connection with all Carter Page FISA applications.” And on top of that, he’s also ordering the release of all text messages related to the Russia probe “without redaction,” citing not just Peter Strzok and Lisa Page but also Ohr, Andrew McCabe, and James Comey.

Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’

On Fox News Sunday, conservative columnist and commentator Brit Hume of Fox News told host Bret Baier that President Trump‘s claim about the FISA warrant are just plain incorrect. He says even if some parts were “improper”, the overall FISA warrant was not illegal. Hume was on with Fox hosts Marie Harf, and Guy Benson, as the group discussed the document release on Saturday regarding the Carter Page FISA warrants. President Trump tweeted on Sunday that the documents showed the FISA warrant was “illegal” but Hume flat disagreed. “Not illegal as far as I can tell. It was approved by the judge, which is the process it’s supposed to go through,” Hume said matter-of-factly. “I mean I think it may well have been improper and I think that as Guy suggests and as the document reveals, there’s stuff in that FISA warrant application that has no Continue reading "Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’"

Carter Page appeared on CNN for an interview with Jake Tapper Sunday morning after the Justice Department released its FISA warrant application to surveil the former Trump campaign adviser. Tapper kicked off the interview by asking Page about one of the more explosive sections of the application, which said the FBI believed Page had been “collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government,” and referred to him as “an agent of a foreign power.” “Jake, this is so ridiculous, it’s just beyond words,” Page replied, saying the application was “misleading the courts.” “It’s literally a complete joke,” he added. “Were you ever an agent of a foreign power? Did you ever advise the Kremlin, or work with the Kremlin on anything?” Tapper asked. After some waffling, Page replied, “No, I’ve never been an agent of a foreign power by any stretch of the imagination.” The former Trump adviser Continue reading "Jake Tapper Grills Carter Page on FISA Application: ‘You Did Advise the Kremlin’"

On Saturday, the Carter Page FISA warrants were released, which are the warrants that allowed the original wiretap of the former campaign adviser. The 472-pages are heavily redacted but news organizations are going through them quickly, and this morning President Donald Trump tweeted his early hot take. The first two tweets went up around 6:45 a.m.

Justice Department Releases Carter Page FISA Documents: ‘Agent of a Foreign Power’

The Justice Department on Saturday released documents on the FISA warrant obtained to wiretap Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser. As the New York Times reported, the documents released include an October 2016 application to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for the Page wiretap, as well as a number of renewal applications. The Times and other outlets obtained the documents thanks to FOIA lawsuits. The docs are heavily redacted, but a key passage revealed the FBI believed Page had been “collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government.” The application accused Page of being “an agent of a foreign power.” The FISA application to surveil Page has been a point of contention for lawmakers in Congress. Republicans have repeatedly claimed the warrant constituted FISA abuse, while Democrats have rejected those allegations. FBI Director Chris Wray: We Still Have ‘Grave Concerns’ About Nunes FISA Memo

During his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, FBI director Christopher Wray confirmed the reports about his apprehension over Devin Nunes‘ FISA memo. For the last few weeks, it was believed that Wray opposed President Trump‘s decision to release the memo, saying that it would give a partisan-charged “false narrative” about malpractice within his bureau. The memo came up during today’s hearing on global threats to the United States, and Wray expressed his “grave concerns about the accuracy of the memorandum.” Wray cited “omissions” as his top concern, explaining that he wasn’t sure how thousands of sensitive documents and bits of intelligence could be sufficiently condensed into Nunes’ brief memo. For the last Continue reading "FBI Director Chris Wray: We Still Have ‘Grave Concerns’ About Nunes FISA Memo"

Chris Cuomo and Jim Jordan Battle Over Democrat Memo: ‘You Don’t Know Any of This!’

CNN’s Chris Cuomo spoke with representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) today about the Democrat’s rebuttal to Devin Nunes‘ FISA memo, and the conversation…uh, turned into a messy, major-league sparring match. After the two had a discussion about the upcoming budget battle in Congress, Cuomo brought up the complaints from several Democrats about how the Nunes memo wasn’t sufficiently scrutinized before it was sent to the White House, whereas their documents are under review by the Department of Justice. Jordan pushed back after Cuomo said this was “circumventing the process” of declassifying information, and the skirmish continued when the congressman lamented the circumstances of how a “secret court” launched an investigation into Donald Trump. Cuomo and Jordan sparred over whether the FISA investigation was primarily based on Christopher Steele‘s dossier, and whether the FBI’s terminated relationship with the British spy proves his information is bogus. Jordan continued to berate Steele Continue reading "Chris Cuomo and Jim Jordan Battle Over Democrat Memo: ‘You Don’t Know Any of This!’"

Devin Nunes Tells Hannity That the Media ‘Is Basically Part’ of the Democrats’ Team

Devin Nunes said on Monday night that the political press is pretty much an arm of the Democrats, based on how they’ve covered his memo on supposed FISA abuses and FBI malpractice. The House Intelligence Committee chairman has given several interviews in the past few days, grumbling about lying Democrats and how Adam Schiff wants him off the committee. In a new interview with Sean Hannity, Nunes said that he is asking the FISA court to provide transcripts pertaining to the investigation on Carter Page, and he eventually started hammering the press for not being more electrified by his findings.
“Can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and Donald Trump or George Bush or Karl Rove paid for information, and George W. Bush‘s FBI open an investigation into the Obama campaign because they were talking to Russians…Yet its crickets from the media. It’s embarrassing. Donald Trump Jr. has made the rounds for Fox News lately, and tonight, he joined Tucker Carlson to take pleasure in the leftist uproar over the GOP’s FISA memo. Carlson spent a good portion of his show tonight bashing Adam Schiff and other Democrats who argued that the release of Devin Nunes‘ memo would not be good for America’s institutions. When he asked the president’s son about this, the Trump scion responded by snarking about the Democrats’ plan to release their own memo as a rebuttal to the insinuations put forth by Nunes and his staff. “I Continue reading "Trump Jr. Mocks Democrats Over Memo Uproar: ‘You Can See the Fear in Their Eyes’"

House Intel Committee Votes Unanimously to Send Democratic Rebuttal Memo to White House

House Intelligence Committee Ranking Democrat Adam Schiff addressed reporters on Monday night, announcing that they have voted to release a new memo that will supposedly rebuke the controversial memo Republicans released last week. Earlier tonight, the committee cast a unanimous vote to send their memo to the White House with a request to be publicly disclosed in the next few days. Congressional Democrats insist that this memo will offer context and information which will contradict the findings from Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) about alleged FBI malpractice and FISA abuses against President Trump‘s team. As Schiff addressed the media, he said that his fellow committee members felt compelled to release their counter-memo in order to address all of the commotion caused by Continue reading "House Intel Committee Votes Unanimously to Send Democratic Rebuttal Memo to White House"

Devin Nunes Responds to Democrats on the Memo: They ‘Tell So Many Lies,’ Not ‘Honest Actors’

Congressman Devin Nunes appeared on Fox News tonight to discuss the memo he released today and the Democratic reactions to it. Nunes told Bret Baier that he did not read the underlying FISA applications himself, but Trey Gowdy did. He denied he coordinated with the White House or President Trump‘s lawyers or any outside groups on this memo, before responding to some of the charges being leveled from Democrats. The memo claims that “relevant information” from the dossier was omitted, but the New York Times reports that the Democratic memo rebuts this:
But a Democratic memo written to rebut the Republican document says that the F.B.I. was more forthcoming with the surveillance court than the Republicans say. The F.B.I. told the court that the information it received from Mr. Steele was politically motivated, although the agency did not specifically identify the information as financed Continue reading "Devin Nunes Responds to Democrats on the Memo: They ‘Tell So Many Lies,’ Not ‘Honest Actors’"

White House on FISA Memo Release: Raises ‘Serious Concerns’ About FBI, DOJ Integrity

The White House has made an announcement addressing the massive intrigue over President Trump‘s decision to release the House Intelligence Committee’s GOP memo on alleged FBI investigative malpractice. In the statement, Sarah Huckabee Sanders expresses “serious concerns” about what the memo says about how the Justice Department and FBI acquire FISA warrants. The Press Secretary says Trump gives thanks to the intelligence and law enforcement communities, and he is “especially grateful” to the “rank and file” members in both arenas who labor to protect American citizens and their constitutional rights.
“Minority members of the Committee have reportedly drafted a separate memorandum. The Administration stands ready to work with Congress to accommodate oversight requests consistent with applicable standards.”

Trey Gowdy on the Memo: Contents Do Not Discredit Mueller’s Investigation

Outgoing congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) has issued a post-FISA memo statement, and he says there’s no way it discredits Robert Mueller‘s ongoing investigations into Russia and the Trump Administration. The House Oversight Committee chairman has been one of the top advocates for the memo’s release, having said over the past few days it would be a major source of embarrassment for congressional Democrats objecting to its release. Gowdy seemed particularly eager to inform the country about the allegations that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe sought a FISA warrant to investigate Trump in connection with Fusion GPS’ controversial dossier. Now that the memo is out, Gowdy has taken to Twitter to say that even though the memo raises certain questions, the bulk of the intelligence/law enforcement community still has its integrity, and the memo does not discredit Mueller’s investigation:

Outnumbered Gets Heated Over Nunes Memo: ‘That’s Horrifying!’

Outnumbered was of many minds on Friday as its hosts on Fox News poured through the revelations from Devin Nunes‘s newly released memo detailing alleged FISA abuses against the Trump 2016 campaign. Lisa Boothe analyzed the memo with Howard Kurtz, today’s #OneLuckyGuy, and she determined that it proves the investigations into Trump have been “poisoned by politics.” When she received pushback from Jessica Tarlov, Boothe persisted by arguing that Michael Flynn wouldn’t have gotten in trouble if not for the Trump-collusion narrative, and the president has good reason to accuse his investigators of partisan bias. Melissa Francis focused on the part of the memo which stated that Andrew McCabe wouldn’t have sought a FISA warrant had it not been for Christopher Steele‘s salacious dossier. When asked if this development on the FBI’s integrity will increase pressure to fire Robert Mueller, Kurtz wasn’t sure since Continue reading "Outnumbered Gets Heated Over Nunes Memo: ‘That’s Horrifying!’"

In light of President Trump’s decision to release Rep. Devin Nunes‘s House Intelligence Committee memo, the FBI Agents Association has released a statement saying they will not allow this development to derail their mission to protect the country.
“The men and women of the FBI put their lives on the line every day in the fight against terrorists and criminals because of their dedication to our country and the Constitution. The American people should know that they continue to be well-served by the world’s preeminent law enforcement agency. FBI Special Agents have not, and will not, allow partisan politics to distract us from our solemn commitment to our mission.”
The new statement echoes an announcement the agency made yesterday where they confirmed their support for Bureau Director Christopher Wray. Wray was one of the top officials who advised against the memo’s release, arguing that it creates Continue reading "FBI Association on Memo: ‘Partisan Politics’ Will Not ‘Distract Us’ from Protecting U.S."

McCain Slams Partisan Attacks on FBI, DOJ: ‘We Are Doing Putin’s Job For Him’

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has released a statement rebuking the current climate of hostility towards the law enforcement and intelligence communities — and it almost reads like a direct rebuttal of President Trump‘s decision to release the controversial Devin Nunes memo on alleged FISA investigative abuses. McCain’s statement came out at just around the same time as the memo’s launch, which Trump chose to release in spite of objections from the FBI and Department of Justice. There have been a lot of accusations and “deep state” conspiracy theories surrounding the memo, and McCain says that with all the squabbling over the integrity of America’s institutions, it only fuels the discord and chaos Russia was going for by interfering with the 2016 election.
“The latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests – no party’s, no president’s, only Putin’s. The American people deserve to Continue reading "McCain Slams Partisan Attacks on FBI, DOJ: ‘We Are Doing Putin’s Job For Him’"

CNN’s John Berman Pummels Matt Schlapp Over Nunes Memo: ‘Where is Your Proof?!’

CNN’s John Berman and conservative commentator Matt Schlapp duked it out on Friday as they debated whether President Trump is trying to undercut the FBI by releasing the GOP’s controversial intelligence memo. After a discussion about Trump’s most recent comments on DACA, Berman brought up the president’s latest tweet where he ripped the heads of the DOJ and the FBI for politicizing the memo. Trump reportedly hopes the memo’s release will discredit investigations into his alleged involvement with Russia, though top law enforcement and intelligence officials remain concerned about the memo creating a misleading picture of FBI practices. As Berman asked whether Trump was attacking his own appointed officials, Schlapp diverted by straight up accusing Barack Obama‘s administration of abusing FISA in order to spy on Trump. These allegations from the memo have yet to be proven, so Berman pushed back on Schlapp by asking “where is your proof” Continue reading "CNN’s John Berman Pummels Matt Schlapp Over Nunes Memo: ‘Where is Your Proof?!’"
