Adam Schiff Tears Into Trump For Ordering FISA Docs Declassified: This President Cares ‘Nothing About the Country’

House Intelligence Committee ranking Democrat Adam Schiff (CA) says Donald Trump‘s new declassification order crosses the line as a “clear abuse of power.” The White House announced on Monday night that the president is ordering the declassification of numerous sensitive documents pertaining to the Russia investigations. These documents to be released include the Carter Page FISA application, FBI reports on Bruce Ohr, and text messages from James Comey, Peter Strzok and other Trump enemies within the intelligence community. Schiff is condemning the move as a self-interested political ploy in order to “advance a false narrative” about the probe.
“President Trump, in a clear abuse of power, has decided to intervene in a pending law enforcement investigation by ordering the selective release Continue reading "Adam Schiff Tears Into Trump For Ordering FISA Docs Declassified: This President Cares ‘Nothing About the Country’"

NBC Reporter: Could Be ‘Huge Repercussions’ If Trump’s Declassifying Docs Over Objections of Intel Agencies

President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification of FISA documents and other materials related to the Russia probe. NBC News intelligence and national security reporter Ken Dilanian said today this is “not normal.” “I’ve never before seen a statement from the White House ordering the declassification of something that the intelligence agencies were not ready to declassify,” he told Steve Kornacki on MTP Daily. “And that’s gonna have huge repercussions, I think.” Dilanian noted the concern intel agencies may have about the release of sources and methods. And while Trump can “declassify anything he wants,” doing this “potentially over the objection of his own agencies is incredible.” He also pointed to how the Carter Page FISA application––one of the key documents that Trump ordered declassified––has been the subject of much discussion on Fox News “to show that this investigation is illegitimate.” Watch above, via MSNBC. Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’

On Fox News Sunday, conservative columnist and commentator Brit Hume of Fox News told host Bret Baier that President Trump‘s claim about the FISA warrant are just plain incorrect. He says even if some parts were “improper”, the overall FISA warrant was not illegal. Hume was on with Fox hosts Marie Harf, and Guy Benson, as the group discussed the document release on Saturday regarding the Carter Page FISA warrants. President Trump tweeted on Sunday that the documents showed the FISA warrant was “illegal” but Hume flat disagreed. “Not illegal as far as I can tell. It was approved by the judge, which is the process it’s supposed to go through,” Hume said matter-of-factly. “I mean I think it may well have been improper and I think that as Guy suggests and as the document reveals, there’s stuff in that FISA warrant application that has no Continue reading "Brit Hume Flat Out Rejects Trump’s Claim FISA Application Was ‘Illegal’"

Jake Tapper Grills Carter Page on FISA Application: ‘You Did Advise the Kremlin’

Carter Page appeared on CNN for an interview with Jake Tapper Sunday morning after the Justice Department released its FISA warrant application to surveil the former Trump campaign adviser. Tapper kicked off the interview by asking Page about one of the more explosive sections of the application, which said the FBI believed Page had been “collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government,” and referred to him as “an agent of a foreign power.” “Jake, this is so ridiculous, it’s just beyond words,” Page replied, saying the application was “misleading the courts.” “It’s literally a complete joke,” he added. “Were you ever an agent of a foreign power? Did you ever advise the Kremlin, or work with the Kremlin on anything?” Tapper asked. After some waffling, Page replied, “No, I’ve never been an agent of a foreign power by any stretch of the imagination.” The former Trump adviser Continue reading "Jake Tapper Grills Carter Page on FISA Application: ‘You Did Advise the Kremlin’"

On Saturday, the Carter Page FISA warrants were released, which are the warrants that allowed the original wiretap of the former campaign adviser. The 472-pages are heavily redacted but news organizations are going through them quickly, and this morning President Donald Trump tweeted his early hot take. The first two tweets went up around 6:45 a.m.

Justice Department Releases Carter Page FISA Documents: ‘Agent of a Foreign Power’

The Justice Department on Saturday released documents on the FISA warrant obtained to wiretap Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser. As the New York Times reported, the documents released include an October 2016 application to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for the Page wiretap, as well as a number of renewal applications. The Times and other outlets obtained the documents thanks to FOIA lawsuits. The docs are heavily redacted, but a key passage revealed the FBI believed Page had been “collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government.” The application accused Page of being “an agent of a foreign power.” The FISA application to surveil Page has been a point of contention for lawmakers in Congress. Republicans have repeatedly claimed the warrant constituted FISA abuse, while Democrats have rejected those allegations.
