That Time Trump Used Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Defend Paula Deen Over N-Word Controversy

Vice President Mike Pence is coming under criticism for comparing Donald Trump with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the slain civil rights icon’s holiday weekend, but he certainly doesn’t have a monopoly on misusing Dr. King’s legacy. Trump himself once used Dr. King’s name to deflect attention from Paula Deen‘s use of the n-word. In 2013, then-celebrity chef Deen saw her career crumble after she admitted, in a legal deposition, to using the n-word. Deen had been a judge for Trump’s Miss USA pageant, which may explain why Trump jumped to defend her. Or maybe it was something else. When the scandal broke in June of 2013, Trump’s first instinct was to give Deen “credit fot admitting her mistake”:

Here’s How Fox News Accidentally Killed Off Ruth Bader Ginsburg With an Ill-Fated Graphic

The hosts of Fox & Friends quickly apologized for an errant graphics package that appeared on Monday morning’s program which prematurely memorialized the life (and death) of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg “We don’t want to make it seem anything other than that was a mistake. It was an accident,” Steve Doocy said. Ainsley Earhardt followed with “We apologize, big mistake.” Mistakes made on live television have existed since broadcast technology was invented, but the digital age has not been terribly kind to television broadcasters as these sorts of gaffes are immediately captured and memorialized by websites like ours. Such is the case with this example, which has led to the inevitable question of how does a mistake of this magnitude even get made in the first place? First of all, nearly every newsroom in America likely has an obituary pre-written for Justice Ginsburg, who is recovering from Continue reading "Here’s How Fox News Accidentally Killed Off Ruth Bader Ginsburg With an Ill-Fated Graphic"

Here’s How Fox & Friends Covered Giuliani’s ‘I Never Said There Was No Collusion’ Bombshell

During a Wednesday evening interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani offered a jaw-dropping clarification over alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia interference in the 2016 general election. “I never said there was no collusion between the campaign or between people in the campaign,” Giuliani said, before falsely claiming he had always said there was no collusion between the President and Russia. Except he had. And so has President Trump. Repeatedly. So the cable news morning news programs jumped all over this Thursday morning. MSNBC’s Morning Joe and CNN’s New Day led with this stunning development. So how did Fox News’ Fox & Friends cover this significant development in the biggest news story of the last two years? They didn’t. They completely ignored it. Which is strange since, over the past year and a half, the claim “there’s no evidence of collusion” has been persistently repeated Continue reading "Here’s How Fox & Friends Covered Giuliani’s ‘I Never Said There Was No Collusion’ Bombshell"

Former ICE Director Thomas Homan to Fox & Friends: Nancy Pelosi is ‘Disgusting’

Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan appeared on Fox & Friends Thursday morning and discussed to hosts (and live studio audience!) the many sides of immigration policy, border wall and the current record government shutdown which has entered its 27th day. The Fox & Friends co-hosts and the in-studio audience had established themselves as blaming the shutdown on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi instead of President Donald Trump (who has publicly owned the current shutdown in a televised Oval Office meeting with Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer.) Host Steve Doocy asked Homan what to make of Pelosi’s recent letter to President Trump suggesting a later date for his State of the Union speech until after the government shutdown, citing inadequate security detail due to furloughed federal employees. Doocy asked, “What say to Nancy Pelosi?” Homan replied simply “She’s disgusting.” This elicited a big laugh and round of Continue reading "Former ICE Director Thomas Homan to Fox & Friends: Nancy Pelosi is ‘Disgusting’"

Fox & Friends Guest: Blacks ‘Undermine’ Their Belief in God When They Vote For Democrats

A Fox & Friends guest said on Wednesday that black voters “undermine” their belief in God when they vote for Democrats. The claim came during a segment on a leaked memo revealing Facebook’s rules that employees should not try and change their colleagues’ minds about politics or religion. “We’re keeping it simple with three main guidelines: Don’t insult, bully, or antagonize others. Don’t try to change someone’s politics or religion. Don’t break our rules about harassing speech and expression,” Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer wrote. To Star Parker, head of conservative think tank CURE, this is a “direct attack on Christianity.” It’s also an attack on Republicans, she said on Fox & Friends: “What we know is the more often people go to church, the more conservative they are, and then the more they vote for Republicans, so that’s what this is really about, Republicanism, and Facebook is Continue reading "Fox & Friends Guest: Blacks ‘Undermine’ Their Belief in God When They Vote For Democrats"

David Webb Piles On CNN Analyst for ‘White Privilege’ Gaffe: She Threw ‘Her Team Under the Bus’

Conservative radio host David Webb appeare on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning to discuss his recent interview with CNN contributor Areva Martin on his conservative Sirius radio show. That interview as newsworthy as Martin erroneously called out Webb’s “white privilege” unaware that the right-of-center radio host and Fox News contributor is a black man. This mistaken identity politics ploy quickly went viral as many on saw it as an example of irresponsibly using race to make political points. Or that was the subtext of the conversation on conservative morning show Fox & Friends. After Webb described his background and the back and forth with Martin, co-host Ainsley Earhardt appeared to express empathy for Martin’s mistake and noted her apology. Webb didn’t seem impressed especially since he called out Martin’s apology. “Well, she apologized. You know, you’re caught. What do you do? So she apologized.” He then adds “But in that apology, she Continue reading "David Webb Piles On CNN Analyst for ‘White Privilege’ Gaffe: She Threw ‘Her Team Under the Bus’"

Fox & Friends’ Steve Doocy Hears Trump Will ‘Take Anything in the Twos’ For Border Wall Funding

Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy broke some news on Friday morning when he revealed that, according to his sources, President Donald Trump’s request for more than $5 billion dollars to fund a border wall is only a high-bar negotiation tactic, and that he “will take anything in the twos.” As the historically long U.S. government shutdown enters its third week over the Trump administration’s insistence that U.S. Congress fund the border wall, the political stalemate as led to real-world consequences and complaints from non-essential government employees like FBI, TSA and Border Patrol agents. But according to Doocy, Trump would take any Democratic congressional offer that was two billion or higher. Given Fox & Friends very cozy relationship with the White House, and that Deputy Communications Director Bill Shine oversaw Fox News programming as recently as a year and a half ago, it is completely reasonable to Continue reading "Fox & Friends’ Steve Doocy Hears Trump Will ‘Take Anything in the Twos’ For Border Wall Funding"

Donald Trump did not get a single mention by name” at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, Steve Doocy reported Monday morning on Fox & Friends. Still, viewers tuning in expecting the morning show to tee off on the Hollywood left were not disappointed — as co-host Brian Kilmeade unleashed on the Dick Cheney biopic Vice, and star Christian Bale. The show played a clip of the actor thanked “Satan” for providing him inspiration to play the former vice president. After the clip, Kilmeade teed off on a movie he has not yet seen. “He did make him seem like Satan, by reports,” Kilmeade said. “Also made [Donald] Rumsfeld seem extremely evil…President [George W.] Bush look like a doofus. Condoleezza Rice totally was ignored, as was Karl Rove, they didn’t say a word, evidently, in the entire movie. And Colin Powell was duped. So nothing accurate about Continue reading "Brian Kilmeade: Vice Portrays Bush as ‘Doofus,’ Cheney as ‘Satan,’… So There’s ‘Nothing Accurate About it’"

Watch Fox News’ Pete Hegseth Hilariously Try and Fail to Sing ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’

Fox News viewers got a rare “treat” Sunday morning when weekend host Pete Hegseth tried to dazzle viewers by singing along with the insipid Billy Joel pop hit “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, and flamed out like the titular conflagration. On Sunday morning’s edition of Fox & Friends, the second-worst Billy Joel song — according to a recent New York Magazine ranking — played the show back from a commercial break, and Hegseth boasted that “My junior high choir teacher used to play this once a week and we would sing along.” But when his co-hosts challenged Hegseth to sing along, he could only manage the occasional isolated line, including one that sounded like “Einstein, Wiggums Dean, women’s got a winning team,” before admitting his failure. “Boo!” Hegseth said. “Give me one or two practice runs and I’ve got it.” Perhaps Hegseth would Continue reading "Watch Fox News’ Pete Hegseth Hilariously Try and Fail to Sing ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’"

With Fuel at $2.25 Per Gallon, Fox & Friends Devotes Segment Encouraging Viewers to ‘Buy a Gas Guzzler!’

According to AAA, the national average gas price is now exactly $2.25 per gallon. That makes now, according to Fox & Friends, the perfect time to buy a car with lousy fuel mileage. “Gas prices have been falling, and the national average price of gas is now $2.25,” said Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy. “So what do you do with all that gas? Buy a gas guzzler!” Doocy introduced automotive expert Lauren Fix to profile several vehicles which could hardly go around the block without using up a full tank. Each automobile displayed during the segment was capable of getting 16 miles to the gallon — except for the Mercedez-Benz G63 AMG, which gets 14. But not to worry, said co-host Brian Kilmeade. “Gas is cheap,” Kilmeade said. “You can get a bigger car.” Watch above, via Fox News.

Fox News Guest: Some Food Stamp Recipients Too Busy ‘Watching Porn’ Instead of Finding Jobs

During her appearance on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning, Star Parker, Founder and President of Center for Urban Renewal and Education, said one of the issues with some people using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is how they have very little incentive to work because they are too busy watching T.V. and pornography. Parker said the shame of being on food stamps has been taken away since they have become  “like an EBT swipe card, it’s a debit card” and so there is even less incentive to get off of it. She complimented President Donald Trump’s administration for telling SNAP recipients they have to find work within three months. “Remember, most of our safety net programs are…for you to get back on your feet,” she said. “And so what the Trump Administration is saying is, ‘Come on guys, the economy’s doing good. Why are you still sitting around?’ People Continue reading "Fox News Guest: Some Food Stamp Recipients Too Busy ‘Watching Porn’ Instead of Finding Jobs"

Fox News Guest Dan Bongino: ‘The Democrats Want to Destroy the Country Immediately’

Dan Bongino, a frequent and very loud Fox News guest, said on Fox & Friends Wednesday that the Democrats want to destroy America, and they don’t have time to waste. During a segment in which Bongino yelled that incoming Republican senator Mitt Romney is a “sellout” for his op-ed criticizing President Donald Trump, the former NYPD officer asked: “What are our other options?” “The democrats want to destroy the country immediately,” Bongino said. “The swamp rat Republicans are the manage decliners — ‘Don’t worry we’ll just manage the decline of the country. While we all keep our bow-ties and eat our foie gras lunches and get our money from our lobbyists.'” Bongino has come close to getting money from lobbyists himself: he ran for office three times in two different states, losing each time. He went on to host a show on NRATV, which specialized in Continue reading "Fox News Guest Dan Bongino: ‘The Democrats Want to Destroy the Country Immediately’"

Ainsley Earhardt: Shutdown ‘Inconvenient’ But Trump Wants You to Go to Bed Without Fear of ‘Being Killed by an Illegal’

The shutdown may be inconvenient, but President Donald Trump‘s cause is noble, Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt said on Wednesday: he doesn’t want you to go to bed in fear that you might be murdered by an illegal immigrant. On the Fox News morning show Wednesday, co-host Brian Kilmeade lamented that the shutdown meant many government attractions, including the Smithsonian Museums and the National Zoo, were closed over the holidays. “It is an inconvenience,” Earhardt said, before turning to Trump’s hardline rhetoric on illegal immigration: “But the president is saying most of the people are good people, but there are some bad apples in the group. And even though it is an inconvenience, he’s saying that your safety, and your security as an American, that you deserve to be able to go to sleep at night and not have to worry about being killed by an illegal immigrant. Fox & Friends: ‘Border is in Chaos…Caravans Are Just Ganging Up at the Border’

Fox & Friends reminded viewers of the current conflict unfolding on the Southern U.S. border featuring yet another skirmish between American border patrol and migrants reportedly trying to illegally scale a border wall near Tijuana. This comes amidst a remarkable political battle over the Trump administrations insistence on getting $5 Billion for a border wall to which the Republican-led Congress has not been able to pass, leading to a government shutdown that is close to two weeks old. Border agents reportedly fired tear gas into Mexican territory to deter the migrants who were allegedly throwing rocks at the border agents. This most recent skirmish occur received much less coverage than the previous time that border skirmish that involved tear gas. Co-host Brian Kilmeade pushed back on any criticism that President Donald Trump’s calling for a border wall was a midterm election issue before saying “Our border is in chaos. The caravans Continue reading "Fox & Friends: ‘Border is in Chaos…Caravans Are Just Ganging Up at the Border’"

Fox & Friends Gets Heated After Host Rejects Trump’s Claim Democrats Are to Blame For Death of Migrant Children

Two Fox & Friends Weekend hosts argued over President Donald Trump‘s insane tweet Sunday blaming Democrats for the two migrant children who died in border patrol custody this month. “Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally,” Trump wrote, in a tweet that naturally drew outrage. On Fox & Friends, host Pete Hegseth lauded Trump for taking the issue “head on” in his Continue reading "Fox & Friends Gets Heated After Host Rejects Trump’s Claim Democrats Are to Blame For Death of Migrant Children"

Lewandowski: Trump Needs to Make Sure Democrats Answer to ‘Dead American Because of an Illegal Alien’

There is no question that the death of Police Officer Ronil Singh is by any definition a tragedy. The fact the suspect is an undocumented/illegal alien adds a layer of complexity to the story but makes Singh’s death no more or less tragic. The shameless political exploitation of Singh’s death by former Trump Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski, however, is a perfect demonstration of just how shallow and craven the debate over border security has become. During a Friday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, the former police officer and always high-volumed conservative cable news pundit called on President Donald Trump to make the Democrats answer for the death of Singh, suggesting the reason that officer is dead is because of Democratic immigration policies. Immigration policy is remarkably complicated and complex, and both parties own responsibilities in the situation in which we currently find ourselves. The argument that Lewandowski appears to Continue reading "Lewandowski: Trump Needs to Make Sure Democrats Answer to ‘Dead American Because of an Illegal Alien’"

Fox & Friends Pledge of Allegiance Segment is Just as Bizarre and Unnerving as One Might Expect

Fox & Friends has been criticized as “state-run tv” due to its fawning and remarkably coordinated coverage of the Trump administration. But Friday morning’s segment dedicated to honoring the Pledge of Allegiance feels like something one might see on the North Korean equivalent to cable news morning show (if such a thing actually existed.) Hard to describe this bizarre segment in a pithy manner, but is easy to imagine future historians pointing to it as the peak (or nadir) of a larger culture war, the winner of which will determine the outcome. Featuring James Robbins, author of Erasing America, who warned that some schools are no longer compelling students to take the pledge, which is the dystopian future consistent with gold-coin buying viewers of the conservative morning show. The segment also, naturally, features host Pete Hegseth posing the classic strawman argument that the American Flag “is seen by some as a Continue reading "Fox & Friends Pledge of Allegiance Segment is Just as Bizarre and Unnerving as One Might Expect"

Fox & Friends Has a Laugh: Dems Would Love a ‘Muslim Transgender Candidate’ But Will Have to Settle For Biden

Fox & Friends had a laugh on Thursday over the Democratic contenders for president in 2020, cracking jokes about the “intersectional field.” “What’s Beto’s real name?” asked Fox & Friends guest host Katie Pavlich. “It’s Robert Francis.” “It’s not exotic enough,” said Mark Steyn, a Fox News contributor and singer. “It’s not intersectional enough,” Pavlich said. “They’re looking for someone more intersectional,” Steyn continued. “They’d like a Muslim transgender candidate, but they’re gonna have to make do with Joe Biden!” The set roared, before moving on to Hillary Clinton. This isn’t the first time Steyn has run to the trans joke well. Earlier this month on Tucker Carlson Tonight:

White House spokeswomen Mercedes Schlapp appeared for an interview on Fox & Friends Monday, where she was challenged by host Brian Kilmeade to name a single adviser that told President Donald Trump to withdraw troops from Syria. “Can you name an adviser the president has that recommended he pull out 2,000 troops?” Kilmeade asked. Schlapp dodged: “I’m not going to get into the internal discussions of how the decision was made. At the end of the day, we all serve in the position of advising the president. It is up to the president to make the final decision.” “We knew from the moment he started his campaign where he stood on Syria,” she continued, “and that was to ensure the defeat of the territorial caliphate in Syria — and the president and this administration and these troops have done that.” Fox News host Griff Jenkins asked if Continue reading "Brian Kilmeade Challenges White House Spox to ‘Name an Adviser’ That Told Trump to Withdraw From Syria"

Brian Kilmeade Slams Trump on Syria: Will ‘Make Everyone’s Security More Perilous’

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade continued voicing criticism of President Donald Trump sudden withdrawal of U.S. troops from war-torn Syria and his much-derided claim that “ISIS is Defeated” in Syria. Kilmeade has been a loyal supporter of the White House, but over the course of the past week, he has begun sharing critical takes on the Trump administration. The fact that he is saying this on what is considered to be Trump’s favorite cable news program is notable — largely because it is typically such a pro-Trump opinion show. In a conversation with Fox News contributor Andrew McCarthy, who is the Syria withdrawal, Kilmeade connected the sudden withdrawal of troops, and sudden resignation of Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, to the threat of terrorist attacks such as the shooting in San Bernadino by radicalized extremists. Kilmeade said, “what he is going to do early is a classic America pull Continue reading "Brian Kilmeade Slams Trump on Syria: Will ‘Make Everyone’s Security More Perilous’"
