Thought Google's new Instant Search looks a little familiar? maybe it's because you've seen some of the early demo videos of Google TV, the search giant's upcoming living room platform. Google TV features a very similar instant search functionality, which makes perfect sense for couch potatoes.

Today on the Net: Google TV will begin selling in the U.S. this autumn according to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Modern Family has been off of Hulu for the last month or so and Vidyo is putting its video conferencing services on the iPad.

Samsung could build TV sets with the Google TV Internet and video platform built in, despite concerns about the high cost of components necessary to run the software. The decision could come down to which content providers Google brings on board for the Android-based OS.

Logitech CEO Jerry Quindlen thinks that Google TV will be hugely profitable for his company - he just doesn't expect much of that money to come from Logitech's Revue set-top box. In fact, Logitech plans to invest all its initial Google TV profits back into marketing.

Google TV will could be revolutionary, but not for integrating the web into TV. Far more important than its built-in browser is Google's ability to bring apps to the living room and to do it at a scale that will lead the TV app revolution.
