Bill Maher tonight offered a defense of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Friday night on her tweets about Israel and AIPAC, asking why they’re considered anti-Semitic. Omar’s tweets were condemned by Democratic leaders for perpetuating anti-Semitic stereotypes and she put out this statement Monday: There have been some calls, including from Vice President Mike Pence, for her to lose her committee assignments. Tonight Maher said this about her tweets:
“She was talking about the Jewish lobby AIPAC and said, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins.’ Now, I probably don’t agree with her a lot about what she feels about Israel and Palestine, but I don’t know why this has to be seen as anti-Semitic. Now, she may be anti-Semitic, but if I criticize Saudi Arabia, that doesn’t mean I’m [an] Islamophobe.”
“It depends how,” Continue reading "Bill Maher on Ilhan Omar’s Tweets: ‘I Don’t Know Why This Has to Be Seen as Anti-Semitic’"

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Venezuela Envoy Elliott Abrams got into a heated exchange on Wednesday during a hearing on America’s military role for Venezuela. After incorrectly addressing him as “Mr. Adams,” Omar went after his credibility for withholding information from Congress during the Iran-Contra affair and how he considered American involvement in El Salvador as a success. “If I can respond to that,” Abrams interjected. “It wasn’t a question,” Omar replied. “It was an attack, an attack,” Abrams shot back. “I reserve the right to my time,” Omar continued over the protest of Abrams. “It is not right for members of this committee can attack a witness who is not permitted to reply,” he said. When asked if he thinks a massacre that occurred in El Salvador “under our watch” was a “fabulous achievement,” Abrams said it was a ridiculous question and won’t respond to a personal attack. “Under your watch a genocide will Continue reading "Rep. CNN congressional correspondent Manu Raju asked Congresswoman Ilhan Omar about her response to President Donald Trump today and apparently got an earful in response. Both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have said her apology for tweets perpetuating anti-Semitic tropes was not adequate. POTUS said she should resign, while Pence said if she doesn’t she should be removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Omar responded to Trump in a tweet today saying, “You have trafficked in hate your whole life.” Raju tweeted this afternoon that he asked her about the back-and-forth, but both times he tried to ask a question she “angrily” responded:

Kevin McCarthy Asked About His Deleted Soros Tweet After Condemning Ilhan Omar on Fox News

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy had to answer for old charges of anti-semitism on Wednesday as he and other Republicans continue railing against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and her controversial comments. In an interview with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, McCarthy argued that Omar’s recent apology is not enough, and she ought to be pulled from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for saying Republican support for Israel is rooted in their financial backing by pro-Israeli groups. As McCarthy slammed Congressional Democrats for not taking further action against Omar, Harris brought up an old, deleted tweet of McCarthy’s that’s been getting a lot of renewed attention amid the Omar scandal. Back in 2018, McCarthy raised eyebrows when he accused three Jewish Democrat megadonors – George Soros, Michael Bloomberg, and Tom Steyer – of trying to “buy” the midterm elections. That message was posted while Steyer and Soros were being targeted Continue reading "Kevin McCarthy Asked About His Deleted Soros Tweet After Condemning Ilhan Omar on Fox News"

Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) indicated possible “further action” against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) Wednesday if she continues making anti-Semitic statements moving forward. He says only a “real test” based on actions will validate her apology. Per Fox News’ Chad Pergram: “Ms. Omar apologized. But the real test is actions going forward..we need to treat one another with respect.. if that doesn’t pan out, there could be further action.” Earlier this week the Democratic congressman expressed skepticism regarding Omar’s apology for controversial remarks she made about pro-Israel lobbyists. “Let’s see what happens. Apologies are nice but actions are better,” he told Continue reading "Dem Leader Steny Hoyer Hints at Possible ‘Further Action’ Against Rep. Omar if No Change"

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell spoke with Vice President Mike Pence in Poland about his tweet Tuesday night denouncing Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Pence tweeted that Omar’s apology was insufficient and said, “Those who engage in anti-Semitic tropes should not just be denounced, they should face consequences for their words.” Mitchell reported last night that Pence wants Omar removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She asked Pence about his tweet on Wednesday, saying, “Republicans were very slow to go and punish Congressman Steve King of Iowa, who is historically critical of Hispanic-Americans. And the President’s Muslim ban. Can Continue reading "Pence: If Ilhan Omar Doesn’t Resign, ‘At Minimum’ She Should Be Removed from Foreign Affairs Committee"

Rep. Ilhan Omar Fires Back at Trump: ‘You Have Trafficked in Hate Your Whole Life’

Rep. Ilhan Omar has responded President Donald Trump calling for her to resign from the Congressional office to which she was only recently elected. Omar came under fire for a Tweet that was viewed by as anti-Semitic for promoting a trope that suggested pro-Israel lobby AIPAC had undue influence with the Republican caucus because of their financial contributions. Bi-partisan and immediate condemnation led to an “unequivocal” apology (that still equivocated) that was not good enough for the commander in chief. During a White House cabinet meeting press spray on Tuesday, Trump called the apology “lame” while adding that Rep. Omar “should be ashamed of herself” adding “I think it was a terrible statement. And I don’t think her apology was adequate.” He then went on to call for her to step down from office. Rep. Omar fired back on a Wednesday morning tweet addressing the president via Twitter:

CNN New Day discussed President Donald Trump’s condemnation of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s recent tweet that was seen by many as anti-semitic on Wednesday morning, and co-host called out the apparent hypocrisy at play in a manner that was befitting of a Mediaite headline. Co-host John Berman said, “it’s interesting when the president criticizes OMAR for this for talking about Jewish money, it’s an example of the pot calling the kettle anti-Semite.” During a White House cabinet meeting press spray, Trump called on Rep. Omar to resign from her recently elected office despite her “unequivocal” apology for tweeting that Republican members of Congress supported Israel because of the campaign donations from pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC.  Her tweet received bipartisan condemnation and eventually led to her apology. Trump found her apology “lame” before calling her to step down. He did not mention, however, his own past comments to Jewish groups that also Continue reading "CNN’s John Berman: Trump Calling Out Rep. Ilhan Omar is the ‘Pot Calling the Kettle Anti-Semite’"

Cuomo Asks Why Trump’s Bigotry is Treated Differently Than Ilhan Omar’s: Is It Because She’s Muslim?

CNN host Chris Cuomo criticized President Donald Trump for hypocrisy after he called on a Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign over anti-Semitic comments. Trump said Omar should resign on Tuesday, in response to the freshman congresswoman posting a tweet accusing U.S. politicians being under the influence of the pro-Israel lobby. It was a tweet Democratic leaders called anti-Semitic, and one Omar eventually apologized for. Cuomo pointed out that Trump once made comments that were “very similar” to what Omar said. “You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump told the Republican Jewish Coalition in 2015. “You want to control your own politicians.” “Why is it different?” Cuomo asked. “Is it because Omar is Muslim? And wears a hijab? I hear a lot of that, and it’s not right.” Cuomo then noted Trump’s silence on Rep. Steve King, the Continue reading "Cuomo Asks Why Trump’s Bigotry is Treated Differently Than Ilhan Omar’s: Is It Because She’s Muslim?"

CNN’s Erin Burnett tonight brought on two guests to discuss President Donald Trump‘s call for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to resign, given past statements of his own. Keith Boykin noted Trump “has a history of anti-Semitism” and has never apologized, including the comments he made to the Republican Jewish Coalition in 2015. Burnett played those very comments, in which Trump said, “You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money… But that’s okay, you want to control your own politician.” She asked, “How is that any different?” Scott Jennings said Trump made those kind of remarks to “a lot of donors.” Burnett shot back, “That was at the Republican Jewish Coalition where he was speaking. You can’t act like that’s not relevant, Scott.” Jennings said Omar should lose her committee assignments like Steve King did. Burnett showed a few clips of Trump, including Continue reading "CNN’s Erin Burnett: Can Trump Really Bash Ilhan Omar and Say She Should Resign Given His Track Record?"

Trump’s Anti-Semitic Comments From 2015 Resurface After His Call For Ilhan Omar to Resign

After President Donald Trump called for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to resign due to her comments against the pro-Israel group AIPAC, a 2015 clip of the then-candidate Trump telling a Jewish group “I’m a negotiator like you folks” has resurfaced. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One today that the freshman progressive lawmaker should resign either “Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.” “I think she should be ashamed of herself,” he added, later saying that Omar “knows what to say” in reference to her tweets about AIPAC lobbying spending which was criticized by prominent Democrats, among others, as an anti-Semitic trope. However, Trump’s confident condemnation resulted in reporters resurfacing a clip of POTUS pushing anti-Semitic tropes while speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition in Washington, D.C. four years ago. “You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump said at the time. Trump Calls For Rep. Omar to Resign: Comments Were ‘Deep Seeded in Her Heart’

President Donald Trump called on Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign, over her controversial comments about Israel that were “deep seeded in her heart.” Omar apologized yesterday after eliciting outrage while mocking pro-Israel Jewish lobbyists for allegedly buying American allies with large sums of money — a common trope associated with anti-Semitism. That incident had led to other tweets from the Democratic congresswoman surfacing, one which accuses Israel of having “hypnotized the world” with “evil doings” and calls on “Allah” to expose them. The President called Omar’s apology “lame” while addressing the White House press pool Tuesday. “I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” he said. The criticism of Omar has been swift and bipartisan. Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) lined up to condemn Omar’s remarks.

Rep. Max Rose Calls Out Republican Double Standard: ‘Can’t be Chickensh*t’ With Anti-Semitism

Congressman Max Rose (D-NY) says its time for the country to move on from Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after her recent, controversial comments about pro-Israel lobbying firms. In the last few days, Omar has been accused of anti-Semitism over a series of comments where she suggested that GOP support for Israel is reciprocal for the financial backing they receive from AIPAC and similar agencies. Omar offered an apologetic statement on Monday after facing bipartisan condemnation, though her new statement indicates that she stands by her criticisms of AIPAC. Rose, who is a Jewish-American and was among the Democrats critical of Omar’s comments, said he accepts her apology when asked yesterday by reporters. He also wondered why there isn’t more furor whenever conservatives suggest that Democratic megadonors like George Soros and Tom Steyer are the sinister puppet-masters for the left. Rep. Kevin McCarthy caught similar flak when he posted a

Rep. Ilhan Omar issued an apology Monday in response to bipartisan criticism of comments she made over the weekend that Democratic party leadership deemed anti-Semitic. Omar was criticizing what she sees as the outsized influence pro-Israel lobbying on U.S. politics, by playing on negative tropes associated with Jewish peoples. “Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” Omar wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole.” “We have to always be willing to step back and think through criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack me for my identity,” she continued. “This is why I unequivocally apologize.” The freshman Democrat from Minnesota included criticism of lobbying group AIPAC at the end of her statement:
