Chris Cuomo Confronts Giuliani for Changing Comments on Trump-Comey Meeting: So Comey’s a ‘Crazy Liar’?

CNN’s Chris Cuomo spoke with Rudy Giuliani tonight to again try and make sense of the latest flip-flop from President Donald Trump‘s lawyer. Giuliani denied to Tapper that he ever said Trump told James Comey to give Michael Flynn a break. Minutes later Tapper showed him the video of him directly saying that. After talking about Omarosa, Cuomo told Giuliani tonight, “I cannot find you ever saying the president did not have that conversation with Comey until this weekend.” Giuliani insisted he did so from the beginning, and Cuomo asked, “Why do you keep arguing in the alternative if you have high ground that it never happened?” “Because I can get him out of it legally,” Giuliani responded. “I can get him out of it factually. He’s got both defenses.” For this to be true, Cuomo pointed out, Comey would have to be a “crazy Continue reading "Chris Cuomo Confronts Giuliani for Changing Comments on Trump-Comey Meeting: So Comey’s a ‘Crazy Liar’?"

James Comey: We Should Be ‘Disagreeing Without Hating,’ the Russians Are Exploiting Our Divisions

Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted a call for more civil and respectful political disagreement this afternoon. “We must get better at disagreeing without hating,” he said. “The Russians know ‘a house divided against itself cannot stand.’ So they push us on social media from all sides. If we stand together as Americans and debate issues respectfully, then our true enemies will be defeated.” Comey also appears to ascribe to the philosophy of “never read the comments”:

Mueller Reportedly Looking at Trump Tweets Bashing Sessions, Comey as Possible Obstruction

Never tweet. That’s the message special counsel Robert Mueller is seemingly sending with his latest actions in his ongoing investigation. According to The New York Times, Mueller is now looking into President Donald Trump‘s tweets — specifically those in which he bashed Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former FBI Director James Comey — to determined whether the president obstructed the investigation. According to the report, Mueller is exploring the question of whether the tweets “add up to attempts to obstruct the investigation by both intimidating witnesses and pressuring senior law enforcement officials to tamp down the inquiry.” The Times reports that Mueller wants to question the president specifically about the tweets. A quick search indicates that there are quite a few. Trump lawyer Rudy Guiliani downplayed the report. “If you’re going to obstruct justice, you do it quietly and secretly, not in public,” Giuliani told the Times. Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler Blast James Comey For Weighing In On Midterms: You Need to ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Get a Life!’

Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler revived their “Really!?!” segment from Saturday Night Live and roasted former FBI Director James Comey for weighing in on the 2018 midterms. Last week, after endorsing Democrats to take back Congress in November, he urged the party to not “lose [their] minds” and rush towards to the “socialist left.” Well, Meyers and Poehler had a lot to say about it. “Really, James Comey!?! You want to weigh in on things when there’s an election coming up? You feel like that’s gone well for you in the past? Meyers began. “That’s like Michael Jordan saying, ‘I think I’m gonna take another shot Continue reading "Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler Blast James Comey For Weighing In On Midterms: You Need to ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Get a Life!’"

Comey: Americans Should Keep Asking Why Trump, Who Attacks Everyone, Doesn’t Go After Putin

Former FBI director James Comey encouraged Americans to keep asking why President Donald Trump, despite his constant attacks on pretty much everyone, does not similarly go after Vladimir Putin. During his book tour, Comey said even in private, Trump would not criticize Putin. Comey himself is one of those people Trump has gone after. Just today the White House said the President is considering revoking the security credentials of him, John Brennan, Michael Hayden, James Clapper, etc. There is one small point of note on that:

Comey Pleads to Democrats: ‘Don’t Lose Your Minds and Rush to the Socialist Left’

On Saturday, Trump-fired former FBI Director James Comey issued a tweet warning Democrats not to “lose their minds” and rush toward the “socialist left.” “Democrats, please, please don’t lose your minds and rush to the socialist left,” Comey wrote. “This president and his Republican Party are counting on you to do exactly that. America’s great middle wants sensible, balanced, ethical leadership.” Comey, a lifelong Republican, testified in 2016 that he had left the party, saying, “I have been a registered Republican for most of my adult life, not registered any longer.” It is unclear what exactly prompted Comey’s warning to Democrats today, however, a PBS Continue reading "Comey Pleads to Democrats: ‘Don’t Lose Your Minds and Rush to the Socialist Left’"

Why Can’t Those Who Claim to Be ‘Pro-Law Enforcement’ Defend Our Law Enforcement Leaders?

In Shakespeare‘s Henry VI, Dick “The Butcher” proclaims, in one of the scribe’s most quoted and notorious lines, “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” The phrase is cited, in most instances, either as a crude lawyer joke or, at the least, as a preamble to some critique of my legal brethren. In reality, however, Shakespeare may have been doing just the opposite, alluding to the critical role lawyers play in maintaining law and order. After all, the line appears as Jack Cade and his team of conspirators discuss overthrowing the government and killing those guardians of law, the argument goes, as was necessary to clear the path for their villainy. It’s hard not to be reminded of the interpretation of that line, as the nation’s top law enforcement comes under fire, with more barbs certain to come. President Donald Trump-appointed FBI Continue reading "Why Can’t Those Who Claim to Be ‘Pro-Law Enforcement’ Defend Our Law Enforcement Leaders?"
