Rudy Giuliani: Trump Didn’t Collude With Russia Because Campaign Never Used Dirt on Clinton

Speaking to Laura Ingraham on Fox News Wednesday night,  pro bono President Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani insisted that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia because it’s not illegal to get dirt and not use it. He then said the focus of the investigation should really be on former FBI director James Comey, not Trump. “There’s nothing illegal about that [getting dirt],” Giuliani opined, referring to the CNN report that Donald Trump Jr. admitted the Trump Tower meeting was aimed at getting dirt on Hillary Clinton. “Even if it comes from a Russian or German or American, it doesn’t matter. They never used it. That’s the main thing. They rejected it. If there was collusion with the Russians they would’ve used it.” He then suggested that the person who should really be under investigation is Comey. Do you think there “is any chance that Continue reading "Rudy Giuliani: Trump Didn’t Collude With Russia Because Campaign Never Used Dirt on Clinton"

Google’s news chief Richard Gingras: “We need to rethink journalism at every dimension”

In the shadows of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the public’s trust in news, and the platforms that distribute it, is at an all-time low. As big tech seemingly scrambles to restore users’ confidence in their platforms, Google is introducing new ways to streamline the subscription process for digital news-readers. I sat down last week with Richard Gingras, the longtime vice president of news at Google, to discuss the company’s new Subscribe with Google feature, the open web, data privacy, and the search giant’s role in the future of news. What follows is a lightly edited transcript of our conversation. There’s an interesting publication in Bristol, England: The Bristol Cable. They don’t have marketers on staff, they have community organizers on staff and they go out and they arrange town halls and they’re trying to assess the needs and interests of their community, they’re trying to figure out how do Continue reading "Google’s news chief Richard Gingras: “We need to rethink journalism at every dimension”"

John McCain Defends Giving James Comey the Trump Dossier: ‘I Did What Duty Demanded’

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) alerted the FBI and gave the controversial Steele dossier about President Donald Trump to then-FBI Director James Comey, according to his new book, The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations. The revelation comes from The Daily Beast, which received an advance copy of McCain’s book, due out on May 22. In the book, McCain writes this: “I agreed to receive a copy of what is now referred to as ‘the dossier’… I reviewed its contents. The allegations were disturbing, but I had no idea which if any were true. I could not independently verify any of it, and so I did what any American who cares about our nation’s security should have done.” The senator then defended his decision saying he did what “duty demanded.” “I said I didn’t know what to make of it, and I Continue reading "John McCain Defends Giving James Comey the Trump Dossier: ‘I Did What Duty Demanded’"

James Comey Praises FBI Official Who Resigned Yesterday: ‘A Great Public Servant’

FBI officials James Baker and Lisa Page resigned yesterday, and on Twitter last night former FBI director James Comey offered praise for one of them. Baker was the former FBI general counsel but was reassigned last December. There was some scrutiny surrounding him into potential leaking to reporters, but he has not been charged. Baker told The New York Times he’s joining the Brookings Institution and writing for Lawfare. Last night Comey praised him as a great public servant:
A great public servant retired from the FBI today. Jim Baker’s integrity and commitment to the rule of law have Continue reading "James Comey Praises FBI Official Who Resigned Yesterday: ‘A Great Public Servant’"

Comey Hits Back at Rudy Giuliani for Apparently Comparing FBI Agents in Cohen Raid to Nazis

James Comey hit back at Rudy Giuliani after the former New York mayor went after him and his former bureau in his bombastic Fox News interview last night. As Giuliani muddied the waters of the Stormy Daniels saga while speaking to Sean Hannity, he also went after the former FBI director by calling him a “disgraceful liar” and a “very perverted man.” Giuliani also reminded everyone that the Russia investigation was the reason why President Trump fired Comey last year. When Giuliani spoke about the recent raid on Trump lawyer Michael Cohen‘s offices, he apparently compared the FBI to Nazis, grumbling about “big stormtroopers coming in and breaking down his apartment and breaking down his office.” While an argument can be made that Giuliani was referring to the “stormtroopers” made famous by the Star Wars franchise, Comey took him to be referring to the infamous storm Continue reading "Comey Hits Back at Rudy Giuliani for Apparently Comparing FBI Agents in Cohen Raid to Nazis"

Hannity Opens Show With Short Montage of Anchors Saying His Name Before Moving On to Comey

At the top of his program tonight, Fox News’ Sean Hannity briefly addressed the bombshell revelation that he was the mystery third client of Trump attorney Michael Cohen. With the media laser-focused on this story, the pro-Trump Fox News host let his audience know that he was going to discuss it. Right away, he welcomed “all of you liberals in the media and all across America, everyone out there that may not usually watch, tuning in, about some recent news about yours truly that came up today.” After stating he would address the “rumors and speculation” later in the show, he then hit the media for going nuts over the story. “Today, for hours and hours, the media has been absolutely apt apoplectic and hyperventilating over some breaking news that I have been listed in court today as a client for a long time trump attorney Michael Cohen,” Hannity Continue reading "Hannity Opens Show With Short Montage of Anchors Saying His Name Before Moving On to Comey"

S.E. Cupp Slams ‘The Comey Show’: James Comey’s ‘Chief Interest’ Is Himself

HLN’s S.E. Cupp found “The Comey Show” to be a pretty mixed bag. She said there are certainly good parts of what James Comey has to say, but she also touched on the “bad” and the “ugly.” Comey has repeatedly emphasized that he wasn’t comfortable with President Trump‘s expectation of loyalty, but Cupp questioned whether that squares with the relief Comey says he felt after what Barack Obama told him post-election. She was also struck by the “lower pettiness” of Comey’s book when it comes to the descriptions of Trump’s physicality. “It’s impossible,” Cupp continued, “not to view what the former FBI director has done over the past two years as being motivated, in part, by what he thought best protected his own reputation. The ensuing 5-week book tour should make pretty clear what Jim Comey’s chief interest is: Jim Comey.” Watch above, via HLN. [ Continue reading "S.E.
