Amazon’s abandoned plans for building a new headquarters in New York has been big news, and while some celebrate and others lament, a spokesperson for the company on Thursday pointed a very specific finger when offering their reason for ditching: Right at freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Jodi Seth, the head of policy communications at Amazon, spoke to NBC News senior media reporter Dylan Byers on Thursday, and in the interview took the official statement about politicians to a very specific place. “If you talk to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it’s ‘Never Amazon,'” Seth told NBC. The company had already cited political opposition, for which consequence Gov. Andrew Cuomo, himself a Democrat but a proponent of the deal, loudly rebuked his party. Seth told NBC that there was no single precipitating incident in their decision, but that “there were some local and state elected officials who refused to meet with Continue reading "Amazon Spox Blames Ocasio-Cortez For Company Scrapping Planned NY HQ: She’s ‘Never Amazon’"

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) congratulated New Yorkers Thursday for having “defeated” Amazon’s plans to build headquarters in New York City, which she does not believe will help New Yorkers. The congresswoman also took a jab at “the richest man in the world,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, whom she had criticized in the past for poor corporate hiring practices. “Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world,” tweeted Ocasio-Cortez. “I think it’s incredible,” said Ocasio-Cortez when asked by congressional reporters Continue reading "Ocasio-Cortez Celebrates New York Rejecting Amazon: We Defeated the ‘Richest Man in the World’"

Fox News Anchor Blasts Jeff Bezos: ‘He’s Been Exposed as a Dirtbag and an Idiot’

Fox News anchor Julie Banderas has no sympathy for Jeff Bezos amid the Amazon founder’s feud with David Pecker and the National Enquirer. Banderas spoke to legal analyst Jonna Spilbor on Monday about Bezos’ allegation that the Enquirer blackmailed and extorted him with sexts from his extramarital affair. When the two discussed whether the Enquirer is politically-motivated because of Pecker’s ties to President Donald Trump, Spilbor dismissed the notion flat-out — even accusing Bezos of bullying the Enquirer with his claims. “Let’s start by saying I don’t think the White House cares one iota about Jeff Bezos’ junk,” Spilbor said. “Number two: who’s the bully here? When you read Jeff Bezos’ blog post where he tries to punch National Enquirer in the nose — the National Enquirer was doing what the National Enquirer does.” When Spilbor suggested Bezos should have gone to the authorities instead of publishing the Continue reading "Fox News Anchor Blasts Jeff Bezos: ‘He’s Been Exposed as a Dirtbag and an Idiot’"

Fox’s Napolitano Says Bezos-Enquirer Feud Could Spell Doom For Trump: ‘Bad News For the President’

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano says the war between Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and the National Enquirer could hold major legal repercussions not only for those at the tabloid, but also for President Donald Trump. Napolitano joined Fox Business’ Stuart Varney on Monday to talk about Bezos’ claim that David Pecker, Enquirer publisher and CEO of American Media (AMI), is trying to extort and blackmail Bezos with a collection of sexts from his extramarital affair. Napolitano concluded that AMI’s alleged conduct “is an act of blackmail because it is an effort to prevent [Bezos] from doing what he has a right to do by the threat of exposing something.” Napolitano and Varney went on to talk about the implications of the case, especially since political observers know that Trump strongly dislikes Bezos and has been friendly with Pecker for a long time. Napolitano acknowledged this even Continue reading "Fox’s Napolitano Says Bezos-Enquirer Feud Could Spell Doom For Trump: ‘Bad News For the President’"

Jeff Bezos speaks about privacy at the Vanity Fair summit in 2016. The brother of Jeff Bezos‘ girlfriend appears to be the one who leaked intimate texts to the National Enquirer, according to a new Daily Beast report. Two sources told the Beast that the leaker is Michael Sanchez, brother of Lauren Sanchez, the woman with whom Bezos exchanged messages. According to their report:
The brother of Jeff Bezos’ mistress, Lauren Sanchez, supplied the couple’s racy texts to the National Enquirer, multiple sources inside AMI, the tabloid’s parent company, told The Daily Beast. Another source who has been in extensive communication with senior leaders at AMI confirmed that Michael Sanchez first supplied Bezos’ texts to the Enquirer.
Bezos has accused the tabloid of blackmailing him in an attempt to end his investigation into how they obtained his texts for a piece published in December. The feds have reportedly launched a probe into the blackmail allegation. Elkan Abramowitz,  Continue reading "Brother of Jeff Bezos’ Girlfriend Reportedly Leaked Sexts to National Enquirer"

On This Week on Sunday, host George Stephanopoulos interviewed Elkan Abramowitz, attorney for AMI chief David Pecker, publisher of the National Enquirer. Abramowitz denied allegations and implications from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos that the tabloid attempted to extort and blackmail him, and that it was done at the behest or on behalf of Donald Trump. “It absolutely is not extortion and not blackmail,” Abramowitz told Stephanopoulos right from the start. “What happened was the story was given to the National Enquirer by a reliable source that had given information to the National Enquirer for seven years prior to this story,” he said. “And it was a source that was well known to both Mr. Bezos and Miss Sanchez.” He was referring to Lauren Sanchez, Bezos’ girlfriend who is the other party in the photos with which Bezos claims National Enquirer attempted to blackmail and extort him. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson tonight covered the big news of Jeff Bezos accusing the National Enquirer of extortion and blackmail concerning new sexts, but he mostly mocked the positive media coverage for Bezos amid all this. Correspondent Trace Gallagher recapped all the latest developments from Bezos going public with the accusation, including the response from the Enquirer‘s parent company insisting they believe they “acted lawfully.” After Gallagher’s report, Carlson said, “So a lot of confusing parts about this story, but one thing that is crystal clear is where the media stands. Journalists love Jeff Bezos. Now, some of them literally work for him at his personal PR operation/lobbying shop––it’s called The Washington Post.” The media loves Bezos, he argued, because “he’s rich” and they suck up to power. He ran a montage of how Bezos is being praised for his response to alleged extortion and blackmail, including

Terry Crews joined Jeff Bezos and others in accusing American Media Inc., the parent company of the National Enquirer, of extortion by threatening to publish scandalous stories in an attempt to silence. After Bezos accused AMI of blackmail — the Amazon founder published emails showing executives threatened to publish nude photos of him and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez — Crews tweeted that the same company “tried to silence” him with a similar attempt. “This same company, AMI, tried to silence me in my lawsuit against [WME] and Adam Venit by fabricating stories of me with prostitutes— and even went so far as creating fake receipts,” the actor wrote. “I called their bluff by releasing their threats online. They blinked.”

Amazon Reportedly Getting Cold Feet on Building New HQ In New York, May Bail

Amazon is reconsidering their plan to build physical headquarters in New York City after receiving backlash from politicians, according to two Washington Post sources close with the company. Unlike in Virginia and Tennessee, where legislators emphatically approved and incentivized the building of Amazon HQ with millions of dollars in project investments, a group of New York legislators and unions are banding together in disapproval.

“The question is whether it’s worth it if the politicians in New York don’t want the project, especially with how people in Virginia and Nashville have been so welcoming,” one Post source said.

Last year Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who also owns the Post, promised an investment of $5 billion and over 50,000 jobs between Queens and Arlington. Despite emphatic support from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, other local Democrats haven’t been as welcoming.

Prominent critics include Democratic Rep. Continue reading "Amazon Reportedly Getting Cold Feet on Building New HQ In New York, May Bail"

After the explosive Medium post Thursday by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos blasting the National Enquirer and parent company AMI, as well as chairman and CEO David Pecker, the board (which includes Pecker) has issued a response. CNN read the response on the air a few minutes ago (above), in full. Here is that statement:
“American Media fervently believes that it acted lawfully in the reporting of the story of Mr. Bezos. Further, at the time of the recent allegations made by Mr. Bezos, it was in good faith negotiations to resolve all matters with him. Nonetheless, in light of the nature of the allegations published by Mr. Bezos, the board has convened and determined that it should promptly and thoroughly investigate the claims. Upon completion of that investigation, the Board will take whatever appropriate action is necessary.”
On CNN, anchor Poppy Harlow turned to legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin and Continue reading "BREAKING: Parent Company of National Enquirer Responds to Jeff Bezos: AMI ‘Fervently Believes It Acted Lawfully’"

WaPo Reporter: Bezos’ Investigators Believe ‘Government Entity’ May Have Been Behind Obtaining His Sexts

A Washington Post reporter dropped a bombshell Thursday night: that investigators working for Jeff Bezos believe “a government entity” may have obtained his text messages, and rather than a phone hack, that this is how the National Enquirer got them. Bezos hired a team of investigators to look into how, late last year, the Enquirer obtained the raunchy text messages he exchanged with Lauren Sanchez while still married to his longtime wife. The billionaire founder of Amazon claimed in an explosive post published Thursday that the Enquirer, which is published by Trump-pal David Pecker, recently tried to extort him by threatening to release explicit photos he sent Sanchez if he continued the investigation. On MSNBC Thursday night, Washington Post reporter Manuel Roig-Franzia said he had “spoken extensively” with the head of Bezos’ investigation, security consultant Gavin de Becker. “They have begun to believe, the Bezos camp, that this publication Continue reading "WaPo Reporter: Bezos’ Investigators Believe ‘Government Entity’ May Have Been Behind Obtaining His Sexts"

Cincinnati Enquirer is Getting Lots of Hate Tweets Meant for National Enquirer: ‘@JeffBezos Make it Stop’

The Cincinnati Enquirer is very keen that people understand what newspaper they are not. Because the newspaper that they are not is tabloid tall tale and tattler publication The National Enquirer. And that’s more important than ever, considering the breaking huge scandal involving first Jeff Bezos and now Ronan Farrow. The problem is their Twitter id. They’re @Enquirer, and apparently that means they get a lot of hate tweeting meant for that other place. Here’s an example of the kind of quality tweeting they’re enduring: That’s a great one because it’s from a Continue reading "Cincinnati Enquirer is Getting Lots of Hate Tweets Meant for National Enquirer: ‘@JeffBezos Make it Stop’"

CNN Panel Shreds National Enquirer After Bezos Post: ‘Disgraceful Journalism, Appalling Behavior’

CNN’s Situation Room covered the big news of Jeff Bezos accusing the National Enquirer of extortion and blackmail in a comprehensive panel discussion on Thursday night. Jeffrey Toobin told Wolf Blitzer said it really does look like the Enquirer operates on the basis of “either you do what we say or you will be embarrassed and humiliated.” But he also noted the close relationship between David Pecker, the head of the Enquirer‘s parent company AMI, and President Donald Trump:
“[Pecker] told me and he’s told others that the reason he paid Karen McDougal $150,000 was to suppress her story and help Donald Trump get elected president, so the idea that the National Enquirer is some journalistic enterprise that is independent of politics is just absurd.”
Blitzer asked if what Bezos is alleging they did is a crime. Toobin didn’t go that far yet but said, Continue reading "CNN Panel Shreds National Enquirer After Bezos Post: ‘Disgraceful Journalism, Appalling Behavior’"

Jeff Bezos speaks about privacy at the Vanity Fair summit in 2016. Jeff Bezos published an explosive post on Thursday night accusing David Pecker‘s National Enquirer magazine of extorting him by threatening to release sexts and nude photos he exchanged with girlfriend Lauren Sanchez. The billionaire founder of Amazon and owner of the Washington Post claimed that a lawyer from the National Enquirer threatened to post a series of nudes — including a dick pick — unless he made a “false public statement” about his investigation into how his initial sexts leaked to the National Enquirer in the first place. As part of his explosive post accusing Pecker and AMI, the publisher of the National Enquirer, of extortion and blackmail, Bezos published what he claimed were email exchanges with the tabloid — in full. “Nothing I might write here could tell the National Enquirer story as eloquently as their own words below,” Bezos wrote on Medium. The first email, from AMI Continue reading "READ: Jeff Bezos Publishes Explosive — And Graphic — ‘Extortion’ Letters Threatening Release of Nudes"

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos dropped a stunning post on Medium Thursday night, accusing the National Enquirer and its parent company AMI of extortion. Bezos confirms reporting that he opened an investigation into how his sexts got to the Enquirer and claims he found out that AMI head David Pecker is “apoplectic” about it:
A few days after hearing about Mr. Pecker’s apoplexy, we were approached, verbally at first, with an offer. They said they had more of my text messages and photos that they would publish if we didn’t stop our investigation. My lawyers argued that AMI has no right to publish photos since any person holds the copyright to their own photos, and since the photos in themselves don’t add anything newsworthy. AMI’s claim of newsworthiness is that the photos are necessary to show Amazon shareholders that my business judgment is terrible
And Bezos shares emails detailing the alleged extortion, Continue reading "BREAKING: Jeff Bezos Accuses National Enquirer’s David Pecker of Extorting Him With NEW Sexts"

Twitter had a moment of buzz in what has been a fairly uneventful Super Bowl when billionaire Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was spotted rubbing elbows with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a live shot. The moment aired as they came back from a break. Unremarked in the CBS broadcast but noticed by bored Twitter, the shot also had Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Fred Ridley. Trust Twitter to turn it into speculation. It’s better than tweeting about yet another punt, to be fair. Jeff Bezos Reportedly Launching Probe Into ‘Politically Motivated’ Sexting Leaks to National Enquirer

A new report indicates that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is launching a investigation to find out how and why the National Enquirer obtained the text messages he sent throughout his affair with a Los Angeles news anchor. According to The Daily Beast, Bezos’ security team is working with the idea that his sexts were leaked for what’s described as a “politically-motivated” ploy to damage him. Since the sexts landed at the Enquirer, investigators think the leak could have something to do with President Donald Trump, given his connection to the tabloid and its parent company, American Media Inc (AMI). Bezos is a known political enemy of Trump, given the fact that the president has trashed him repeatedly and seemed delighted with the end of Bezos’ marriage. Trump frequently (and dubiously) accuses Bezos of taking advantage of the postal system, all while using the Washington Post (which Bezos Continue reading "Jeff Bezos Reportedly Launching Probe Into ‘Politically Motivated’ Sexting Leaks to National Enquirer"

It is snowing in Washington DC this Sunday and Trump — who earlier today talked about the “beauty and majesty” of the White House in the snow — apparently has the time to take to Twitter to poke at one of his perennial foes, Jeff Bezos. “So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post,” Trump opined leaving it unclear if ‘Bozo’ was a typo or an intentional insult. “Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!” Trump is apparently referring to a months-long investigation conducted by the National Enquirer. CNN reported on the investigation that resulted in a blaring headline on the Enquirer’s cover about the cheating photos that ended Bezos’ marriage:
The Enquirer said it had been investigating Bezos Continue reading "Trump Unleashes on ‘Jeff Bozo’ For Ownership of Washington Post, Says National Enquirer is ‘Far More Accurate’"
